I follow these videos religiously about yakutsk / yukutia. It's so fascinating to see how people thrive and survive in such harsh conditions and sometimes I wonder WHY do they even opt to live in that extreme cold climate when there's so many others places to live in comfortably. I feel so blessed living in South Africa and even though our government is useless and we're going through a major power struggle and that little electricity we're lucky to receive daily yet our electricity bill is sky high come month end, we at least have lovely weather and our difficulties is NOTHING in comparison to Russia's heavy snowfall. I like watching because I've never in all my life had the pleasure of touching snow.

It's amazing that such a rural village has central heating. Only the densest city's in America, such as NY, have centralized steam heating systems. They are extremely inefficient and costly, but they work.
So do some northern tier locations in America. Minot AFB ND, and many other bases, have Central Heating Plants; no longer fired by coal but natural gas.
@@dukeford8893 The plants in Germany had coal-fired heating plants, cause my troops used to pick up all the ashes. Base housing had coal plants in the basement; these were 24-family units four stories high. That was Ramstein AB in early 80's.
Wood heat is #1 , I love the concrete wood heater. They are very efficient , centrally located in the home. 77 Fahrenheit equals total comfort in the freezing cold 🥶
You make fantastic videos. Here in the US some people put little fans on top of the wood stoves. The fans are powered by the stove’s heat and are used to circulate warm air.
I respect your way of life and the conditions you thrive in, here in the UK, if it goes below zero and there is 50mm of snow, everything grinds to a halt. It is a method utilised throughout Europe, we think of storage or mass brick storage as being new but I have seen examples from the 15th century and we still use them now, even if they are less efficient(electric storage radiators).
Так себе конечно. Понимаю твоих предков, почему ломанулись в Калифорнию и вообще по всему миру. Если дома не тепло, то это не дом. А везде где можно жить, можно жить хорошо.
Well done thumbs up. Thanks. When I was younger, very younger, about 50 years ago, I wanted to live in a place like Yakutia. Not anymore. I'm 78 and afraid to live in such harsh conditions.
I'm on the complete other end of the spectrum too. It's 53 degrees Fahrenheit today and it's cold to me. There's no way I can live in that kinda weather!
I lived in a house in Northern Canada, the house was 120 years old, and there was no insulation . The wood stove stove got fired up in September, and didn't stop till early may . believe me, you are a slave to that stove. Most would not understand it takes approximately 2 hours every day a third of the year to cut and process to the wood fuel to keep warm. Think the next time when you turn a nob or press a button, how many hours ya had to work when you get your bill .in my case, all my labor went to my family. It's a proud feeling no one profited from your work
I wonder what the future of heating would look like in Yakutia if (when?) decarbonization happens. The only thing I can think of would be electric resistive heating with wood as an emergency backup, because it's not like you can use even the best heat pump when it's 50 below zero.
They're in Russia not California, so possibly never. Coal and wood provide fast, reliable heat. Even if homes switched to electric heat, the power plant would likely use coal or maybe natural gas to generate it. Distributed heating systems, even one as seemingly outdated as theirs, is already very efficient. Upgrading it to use natural gas would be a good middle ground with coal as backup.
Get out of here with your “decarbonization” nonsense. How do you think the electricity is generated dummy? You people are unreal. It’s -65 degrees outside and you’re worried about people burning wood to stay warm? You probably live on the coast of California where it’s 72 degrees F year round. Smh. I wish u people would go away.
And carbondioxid from wood is "recycable" if you or nature plant new trees to bind the same amount. Coal though, not. On the other hand very few people live in these areas (compared to the whole globe) so they could problably get some "dispensation".
A good thing to think about if you have a wood burner is this, every cubic foot of air that goes up the chimney providing combustion for the wood is replaced by outside air coming into the structure at every crack and it can find. If the wood burner had a source of air from the outdoors for combustion there would be no need to suck air from inside the structure that has been heated and force it up to chimney only to be replaced by whatever the outside air temperature is.
Maintaining an indoor temperature of 25 degrees, when it is so cold outside, is AMAZING. My poorly insulated flat in the UK is regularly between 3 and 10 degrees at this time of year 🥶
When it's almost 12 degrees Celsius (53 degrees Fahrenheit) for me, it's -50 Celsius for you in Yakutia, wow. And btw everybody here thinks it's cold today. It's normally warmer, it's normally in the 60s Fahrenheit in March.
Really depends on the scope. Even smallest villages have small "hospitals" for physician visits and basic diagnostics. For complex surgeries people usually travel to bigger cities. In case of emergency people get transported from small villages to city hospital by helicopter.
The effort said it requires to stay alive during the winter which keep them busy year-round, plus the extreme cold temperatures seems to make this region otherworldly in the sense that the outside world doesn't seem to intrude very much or require very much of them.
Год назад+5
One time I had to go out while the temperature was around -10°C, and it felt dangerous. I was low-key scared. It felt like I wouldn’t be able to survive that temperature for more than a few hours, despite all my winter clothing. I don’t know how these people withstand -50°C

life of yakutian people is full of difficulties yet too interesting to know ...
Their ancestors fled further north to avoid war. It seems they have become acclimated and never opt to turn back.

@@wwaynemcg Most, if not all USAF bases worldwide had oil-fired central steam plants at one time.

Fans only work with iron stoves(fire box). This is not effective with large brick ones.

The only thing I can think of would be electric resistive heating with wood as an emergency backup, because it's not like you can use even the best heat pump when it's 50 below zero.
decarbonization will happed only in the land of dreams. Yay me.
@@OddieStonexactly, they can “decarbonize” we’ll keep doing it the good old way
They're in Russia not California, so possibly never.
I love cold weather & would love to visit Yakutia👍🏻
