Today, Mea Shearim remains an insular neighbourhood in the heart of Jerusalem. With its Haredi, and overwhelmingly Hasidic, population, the streets retain the characteristics of an Eastern European shtetl, as it appeared in pre-war Europe. Life revolves around strict adherence to Jewish law, prayer, and the study of Jewish religious texts. Traditions in dress include black frock coats and black hats for men (although there are some other clothing styles, depending on the religious sub-group to which they belong), and long-sleeved, modest clothing for women. In some Hasidic groups, the women wear thick black stockings all year long, even in summer. Married women wear a variety of hair coverings, from wigs to scarves, snoods, hats, and berets. The men have beards, and many grow long sidecurls, called peyot. Many residents speak Yiddish in their daily lives, and use Hebrew only for prayer and religious study, as they believe Hebrew to be a sacred language, only to be used for religious purposes.
Hasidic groups with a large number of followers in Mea Shearim include: Breslov, Slonim, Toldos Aharon, Toldos Avraham Yitzhak, Mishkenos HoRoim, and Satmar. The Pinsk-Karlin dynasty also has its center here. The Edah HaChareidis, which supervises kashrut certification and runs a Jewish religious court, has its headquarters at the western end of Mea Shearim. Mea Shearim is the stronghold of both factions of the Neturei Karta movement, which opposes Zionism, as well as the movement from whence they sprang - the descendants of the original Perushim community, also known as "Yerushalmis". Some Neturei Karta members have asked to live under Arab rule. The late Rabbi Yosef Shalom Eliashiv, the leading posek of Litvish / Yeshivish Jewry, made his home here.
The oldest Sephardic Haredi dynasty, Levi Kahana of Spain, has a religious cultural center in the neighborhood.

It is not difficult to film if you are discrete. Remember, this is their home. They are not like animals in a zoo. Just treat them with common decency and you will be fine. They are people who, for the most part, are the same as everyone else and also observe their own religious rules. Basically, good people. I was there many years ago. Also, lots of poverty. Many live there because that is where they and their ancestors have lived since the 19 century. You haven't gotten off the main road: Go to batei ungarn and you will see the real community. This is not it.

IN the 90s I was a free volunteeer working at Ezrat Avot and I was coming from Europe but loving eretz israel ... I was working with rebezzin z"l Naomo Sharabi I wonderful person... I got a very very simple room where to sleep with a terrace and in the evening I could see the stars and a huger wonderful moon. I was very happy as before rosh hashana early in the morning I could hear from the beit knesset wonderful songs and even selihot. Mea SHEARIM has changed since that time is more modern more new shops big autos and at that time women were wearing long dresses and the life was more severe. I bought by Galia librery wonderful prayers books and the Torah of ELIE MUNK. The life was more quite no handies not TV and it was impossible to take pictures. Now they became more tollerant... by the way Mea Shearim has lost the past atmosphere more simple more poor as we had the feeling to leave really in east Europe. I spent a marvellous time that I will never forget. n i "§l

      Hi.
Men don't have to wear anything on their head. But I recommend a wide and light hat as it will be very hot. It would be good if there were no pictures or symbols on the hat.

They are the children of the devil, the very seed of the serpent, descendants of Japhet - white folks of Eastern Europe pretending to be the Jews to reap the blessing prophesied to be given to the Jews. They learned to usurp the identity of others to get their way, like Jacob did thinking he would be blessed instead of Esau.
These people have filthy streets, they bathe in ugliness, their facial deformities bare the testimony of what they carry in their hearts.
They consider the rest of the world to not be humans, but animals. These people are cursed, you can fool yourself as much as you like thinking they are the real Jews, they are not.

so, it's difficult to film here, but cell phones capable of video recording are in use by many people walking about. where is it written in religious law that the streets have garbage and litter, and the walls plastered with notices? And chaotic auto parking and traffic?
there are so many exceptions to all the rules. and.....exemptions to military service to defend the country that allows you to live within this community?

I find it a bit too much that one community considesr themselves the best and holiest of all while considering others like trash. And even if I find some religions to be at the top list of horrors, i have seldom met people behaving properly their whole life and even less a whole community. When it comes to religions, they are all led and run by males and. none of them treat women the right. way while requesting them to have all virtues., though some religions should really be banned for many reasons. ....
