Dickey wrote all the ABB songs I love (Southbound, Ramblin' Man, Elizabeth Reed, Blue Sky), but this one's my favorite, and quite fitting today. We'll reach the end all we'll all be singin' and we'll be friends Back where it all begins Rest well, mon brer.
Do yo thang Dickie!! Don't stop now!! Don't stop ever!!! One of the true Southern American treasures that we still have left in music. He may outlive me but there's just not many of them like Mr. Betts left!! No any as a matter of fact!! Their music has seen me through some really dark times but it's also there in the great times. Nothing like cranking up some Allmans around 9am on Saturdays and getting a good booger sugar and beer buzz going. Haven't touched the sauce in 18 years but this music does bring me back to some great times in my youth!
Every ABB song that I love was written by Betts except one , Melissa. For me Dickie Betts was ABB. Genius composer and player. He should get more attention.
This is awesome Warren just kills this song and Dickey at the top of his game .I think this was the peak of this particular lineup of the Allman Brothers Band. And my favorite lineup after the 1989 reforming of this legendary Allman Brothers Band.
@Fuzzy Butkus Don't forget Les Dudek. While never an official member of the band, he contributed a lot of guitar work to the bestselling Brothers and Sisters album.
I’ve been a Dicky Betts fan from the Fillmore East days, just think how crazy good this band would’ve been if Duane and Berry was still around? This is probably the best lineup that really stands out after the turmoil and regrouping. I however did very much appreciate Dan Toler as he was no slob on guitar!
Feel so good watching and listening to this. Saw them 13 times starting in 1992 at Kingswood. Dickey was not there, Grisman sat in. I also seem to remember this little kid stepping out in a ball cap and an SG that was way too big for him KILLING IT on Statesboro, but my memory has slowly been slipping....
such a great song. They usually played this in the mid 90's when they came to Star Lake Amphitheater. Thanks WDVE for the $10.25 cent tickets to all of those Allman Brothers shows back then.
If you've never seen or heard Derek Trucks play look him up especially on some of the ABB stuff. And get ready to be floored! The guy is incredible!!!! Duane, Dickey, Warren all legends!
One of Dickey's greatest solos was on this song at Nissan Pavilion (now Jiffy Lube) in Barstow, Virginia from July 30 1995. Warren just blistered the hell out of his solo and Dickey had to respond in kind or look like he'd had it. The old pro came through big time. Recordings abound - find it - you will be glad you did.
@@muleblues71 N doubt Warren was a great guitar player but having seen the original play here in L.A. and then with just Berry at the Hollywood Bowl then without Berry, after that, it just did't seem the same. You can put a killer guitar player in Led Zeppelin if Jimmy left but would it be the same. Warren has played some KILLER guitar with the ABB but it just never seemed the same to me. And then when Dickie was gone...it wasn't them anymore.
Never knew that was Warren playing that solo. Holy Hell!! It's like he's in a trance, just going at it without even thinking about what he's doing. I wouldn't want to have to choose between him and Derek Trucks as to who's my favorite slide guitarist. Both amazing in their own way.
Warren is the shit and I gotta say my fav lineups over the years were the first and last of the Brothers.....Warren and Derek were and are amazing together....
Come on man. Can't you just enjoy BOTH of these guys' work without comparing one to the other? Dickey and Warren are both the shit and were never meant to copy or replace anyone - let alone each other.
I know Greg and Dickie had their problems, but I don't think they would have been the Allman Brothers as successful without him. Dickie was a damn genius on the guitar, and singing! Love this!
I know everyone says Duane was the man. He was. But let's get real. There would have been no Allmam Bros without him. As much star power as Greg had I truly believe Dickey was the heart and soul after Duane died.
Duane always said he was the famous one but dickey was the talented one ,after he played with Derek and the Dominos He said Eric didn't have anything on dickey
@@darrellsomers5427 im a huge clapton fan also and i tend to agree with dickey is another level above him even. Duane was right about that. Ive always said that jerry garcia was atleast at claptons level too
holy shit no rap in my truck-change my radio station or cd and there will be a quick stop and you will exit my vehicle. no kidding. back where it all began
angelojc777 This was from Austin City Limits in 1996. There was a full length version of this, but I can't find it anymore. RIP, Allen Woody, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman.
Warren Haynes......still the hardest working man in music. Warren's solo on this song is just fantastic.
Dickeys swan song RIP brother life was always better thanks to you
Dickey wrote all the ABB songs I love (Southbound, Ramblin' Man, Elizabeth Reed, Blue Sky), but this one's my favorite, and quite fitting today.

Back where it all begins
Rest well, mon brer.
Had to watch this today !!!
RIP Dickey Betts !!!!
Thank you for the fantastic music
This is my favorite Allman Brothers song!
RIP Dickie, heaven got a better than terrific guitar player today!!
Rock stars get into Heaven?
I could listen to this everyday, and I do!
I do listen every day. On my treadmill language Stevie Ray Vaughan
RIP Mr.Betts. Thank you. Back to where it all begins. See you there

4of the all time gr8 guitar players in one band over 50 years w no on stage jealousy or bs just beutiful complimentary music
Rest in peace, Dickey.........keep ramblin'.....
Every ABB song that I love was written by Betts except one , Melissa. For me Dickie Betts was ABB. Genius composer and player. He should get more attention.
Totally agree!
I love what Duane did, but Dickey was my favorite. Just love his style.
This is awesome Warren just kills this song and Dickey at the top of his game .I think this was the peak of this particular lineup of the Allman Brothers Band. And my favorite lineup after the 1989 reforming of this legendary Allman Brothers Band.
Yes he does
Best lineup EVER!
All hail Warren Haynes, Allen Woody, and Marc Quiones....for making the Allman Brothers relevant again.
Dickey y Warren dos de los mejores guitarristas que he escuchado
Duane Allman
Dickey Betts
Warren Haynes
Derek Trucks.
That's one hell of a history of guitarists!
you forget Dangeres Dan Toler !!!!!!
@Fuzzy Butkus Don't forget Les Dudek. While never an official member of the band, he contributed a lot of guitar work to the bestselling Brothers and Sisters album.
Amazing!!!
Fuzzy Butkus knows what’s up. Jack is an animal and reminds me of where Duane may have gone in his later years had he seen them.
Also Jack Pearson!
This is easily my favorite version of the ABB, post Duane and Berry. So badass! Woody rumbled like nobody else.
I saw them 2 or 3 times wirh Woody on bass. Just great. I dig Butch's t shirt, he & Jaimoe made magic rhythm man
this song means as much to me today as it did the firs time i heard it over 20 years ago.
I just came here to say that the album version of this song is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard
Dickie blows me away!!!!!! So illustrious and bone jarring powerful!! Warren hangs nicely!

How I like to remember the Band after Duane...I saw this tour and consider myself Lucky....
Great stuff!! Saw them 22 times

Rest in peace Dickie
Love the sound Dickie gets out of that red 335
thank God someone said it !
5:52 the phrasing he starts right around there put a big smile on my face. Classic Dickey. And that's just the beginning.
Agree 100% not taking anything away from Warren Haynes here...but Dickey's Solo and especially the section starting a 5:52 is off the charts good.
Keep coming back to this over and over. Love the bass player. Seems like a big teddy bear.
Alan Woody-such a talent!
In 96' I was 26 , and listening to this , makes me feel 26 again ❤️✌️
When I listen to Allman Bros. and that his eveyday I all always be 26 and I'm now 66 and will always love love their music till the end.
I was 29 in 96, now I’m 51, I know exactly what you are saying! Memories!
Me too happy 50th this year :)
Love Warren....Saw Dickey and Dangerous Dan do about a half hour version at Freebird Cafe.
one of the greatest performances iv'e ever seen...
Absolutely a song which portrayed what the Allmans were all about. Great lyrics, Gregg and Warren harmonies with Dickey, and the solos off the hook.
Music should take you to places you want to go. ABB are great tour guides.
I love Warren Haynes. His solo was amazing. But Dickey...god damm....he fucking killed it!
Betts and Hynes perfect example of two seamless guitar melodies in perfect harmony, wow!!
our sweet Heather's favorite lullaby
Bass player is like ..... thanks for having me . Powerful stuff
.
the late great Alan Woody!!
That 335/Marshall combo is just unparalleled...This performance is a watershed event for me.
Absolutely Wonderiffic ! Greetings from Wales U K What a band man
such a great song. They usually played this in the mid 90's when they came to Star Lake Amphitheater. Thanks WDVE for the $10.25 cent tickets to all of those Allman Brothers shows back then.
This is my life song to be played at my funeral. I went from the coast to the desert and back to an island reaches out to me and captures my spirits
Me as well.
Deer Creek, Indiana around this time. Wish I remembered more of it!
Allen Woody, laid back, gettin' the job done.
Sure as shit looks And sounds like Allen Woody to me. Seen them in that configuration many times. As well as Govt. Mike.
MSJsoul Hahaha that’s Woody alright
God damn it Dickie , jesus Christ , watching the old master solo gives me the chills ! Anyone else a GABBA Fest debutant ? This one's for you Jack !
If you've never seen or heard Derek Trucks play look him up especially on some of the ABB stuff. And get ready to be floored! The guy is incredible!!!! Duane, Dickey, Warren all legends!
Rip Dickey 😢
Dickie Betts is the man
Happy Birthday Dickey ......RIP Greg ....Butch and Woody .......
Warren and Dicky. Both Gods.

is it out here somewhere on video?
totally agree one of Dickey"s best.My favorite.Wow!!!
As someone said a year ago, it is Dickey's playing that is just what the Allman Brothers sound was all about it.
It's true, and somebody probably first said it about forty eight years ago.
It was Duane.
@@muleblues71 I'm talking about AFTER Duane died.
@@Buzzramjet Have to admit that after Warren joined the band, He lit a fire under Dickie's ass playing wise.

Alan freaking woody are you kidding me man what a bass player he was such a tragic loss just goes to show your kids drugs are for thugs
As technically impressive as Haynes' solo is, to my ear, Betts' solo is where the MUSIC begins. That man can play some beautiful melodies.
Randall Colvin how dare you
Sorry Bro, not denying Haynes' skill. It's just that Betts' style is more to my liking.
Yes,Dickeys melodic approach is just what he does,Warren unreal also. But Betts created the sound.
Dickie and Warren, how effin cool,
JJ G Was definitely a excellent era for ABB .....
Diamonds are one of the best rock and roll bands I've ever seen
Superb.
Feel good music ❤️
I know Greg and Dickie had their problems, but I don't think they would have been the Allman Brothers as successful without him. Dickie was a damn genius on the guitar, and singing! Love this!
Warren should proud man, he’s amazing, but Dickie totally owned the show that song!

Dickey doesn’t get the credit he deserves on many levels

People come from near and far to hear Richard Betts pickin' on that red guitar ...
Yes
Where it all began
I love how Dickey is chopping wood while brother Warren solos
Miss your music brother Dicky
Damn that’s some guitar playing
Dickey's lines are so musical.
Brilliance!
Richard Betts pickin' on that red guitar
my friends and I indulged on this song tongiht, and I hope you did too
Richard Betts playing that red guitar
ABB- according to Rolling Stone, 4 of the Top 10 Guitarists of all time. Duane, Dicky, Haynes. and Trucks. Betts and Warren prove it here.
Legendary venue
Seriously though! That's the stuff right there.
Dickie and Warren. Pickin and strumin.
Richard Betts pickin on that red guitar
Losing Dickey is a serious gut punch.
Classic Lineup. Hey hey there it is at 1:40 then theres 4:45 baby. Woody is such a rock star.
holy shit betts u the man
holy shit no rap in my truck-change my radio station or cd and there will be a quick stop and you will exit my vehicle. no kidding. back where it all began
When Warren was mentioned to Dickie as a possible guitarist, He was onboard knowing that Warren would challenge him. Well. That is like so democratic.
ruclips.net/video/DgMpWMlCdYA/видео.html. Good interview - Warren talks about first encounter with Dickey.
The Best
I wish this tape was a little cleaner.
Son of a BITCH Dickey gets it goin!
One of my all time favorites.
the quality of this video makes it look older than it is... practically yesterday.. am i right? RIP Gregg.
Warren Haynes 🔥
This was an episode of Ausin Ciy Limits. Man, seems like yesterday. Must've been '94, '96, sumthin' like that.
St. Louis
I just can't even imagine the Allman Bros without Dickie Betts, it just seems so wrong.Just Saying
Well, I think Derek Trucks was a perfect fit, and Duane's equal. The Warren and Derek era produced some fantastic music.
Good stuff, man. Wish Dickey hadn't gone off the deep end (in drugs AND anger and abuse).
To: All my friends at local 436..
If u say that u never travel with the band. I did! With Gregg gone now there is "No one to run with"
Dicky Betts is really good!!!
Allan Woody oh boy................ :{
Not an Allmans expert but getting the sense this period was a certain peak for Betts?
Wayne sure was good that night ..
Warren it!
How about the 6 minutes mark, the bassist starts watching him, and then 6:13, he raises one eyebrow at him....
I want to shake Warren right then and say “Man give your boy Woody some love - smile- you’re having fun man!”
it had to have been oh so painful to be forced to remain sitting.....
Warren dripping hot butter all over my face
All Cylinders
Somebody please post The Same Thing from this show. I've been trying to find it for years.
i would sell my soul to the devil to have the skill warren has! or jimmy page =)
End is cut off - when and where is this please.
angelojc777 This was from Austin City Limits in 1996. There was a full length version of this, but I can't find it anymore. RIP, Allen Woody, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman.
Thanks
Whats better than 2 drummers ???? 3 freakin drummers thats what !!!!!!!!!!!!!
