  • This documentary tells the story of the Cape Wrath Trail, the rough and wild Scottish Highlands, the long days of walking and wild camping and the interesting people I met along the way.
This film takes you with me on my walk in April and May 2023 and my experiences and encounters along the Cape Wrath Trail. Thanks to all the people who made this possible, especially the great people I met along the way and shared many days and evenings with on the trail - supporting each other and above all being that familiar friendly face after a hard day. I hope you enjoy this documentary as much as I enjoyed walking and making it.
Feel free to subscribe to my RUclips channel for more hiking related content. Unfortunately I do not post documentaries as often as I would like to - but I hope the quality makes up for the lack of quantity.
And a great thank you to REAL Turmat, Cumulus Outdoor, Osprey Europe and many other for supporting me in making this documentary.
*If you want to try the food I ate in this film - which I absolutely love - please visit realoutdoorfood.com/ or my own webshop (Dutch) on www.starthiking.nl/maaltijden .
*On this hike I used the Osprey Exos Pro 55 which is crazy light for the same comfort as the regular Exos I used to take as my go-to (www.osprey.com/eu/osprey-exos...) This backpack was provided to me by Osprey Europe.
    * I used a fully custom made Cumulus Quilt 250 (with 900 cuin down, ultralight Toray 19gr/m2 fabric in and outside and a waterproof footbox and additional length and width). cumulus.equipment/eu_en/quilt... This quilt was provided to me by Cumulus Outdoor.
    * I wore Salomon's v8 3d trailrunners - my first hike on trailrunners because of the wet terrain and it didn't disappoint
    * I also really liked my two pair Darn Tough socks I alternated between on this hike
    * I licensed music through artlist - get a free month if you sign up via this link: artlist.io/Mathias-870085
In this blog you’ll find my entire gear list for the CWT www.starthiking.nl/paklijst-c... The links provided are for your convenience and no affiliate links and do not earn me anything - unless you buy through my webshop which would be great!

Superb film. This is a serious hike, that boggy terrain is so tiring to cross. I bet the hot shower felt heavenly!

Prachtige rapportage!

Amazing documentary and an inspiration for many hikers! How did our quilt perform during your trip?

      It was amazing!
Comfort wise I am really hooked on the quilt, I really enjoy the flexibility and room for freedom of movement. The quality of the quilt is superb, as I also experienced on my Cumulus panyam 450 I used before. Temperature wise I had one night down to freezing point and I was warm enough - although the Q250 (even with 900FP down) would probably be a bit too cold for consistent zero/subzero temperatures/hikes. Al in all I was extremely happy with it.

Thanks for your company on the section between Sourlies and Kinloch Hourn 😀 It was great to meet you.
Glad you made it to the Cape looks like the rest of your trip was good fun. By the end I was racing to get through before that firing range closure!

Hey! Thank you! That was a quite rough going stretch of the trail haha, I remember us finding our way up through the mud and drizzle like it was yesterday.. Unfortunately too wet for a lot of filming. The warmth of kinlochhourn soup and toast was a great reward though! Was great meeting you. Wonder how your pct adventure went!
