One of my friends just recently realized that I really love kpop and her first question was if I got into this because of BTS and she said it a bit like as if BTS is something to be joking about. And that hurt. A lot. Not just because she wanted to have a laugh at me, but because I know now how much work these boys and girls put into their art and how much they care about the message they pass onto their fans. They really don't deserve the hate and the laughs.
(And honestly I didn't get into kpop because of BTS, I was an NCT fan first and then got to know other groups...)
@@LaneyElward Fr fam!! I feel personally attacked when ppl hate on kpop before ever giving it a chance. I was hardcore an exo and shinee stan before finding bts. Kpop has so much more to offer musically than most western music for me.

I was triggered as well… but we don’t need to stoop to the level of knocking someone else’s favorite group. Like rm and yoongi when bfree was talking shit to them in the interview and doing anything to try to cut them down… rm said “okay and it’s fine for you to feel that way, I understand .. but also,” and then explain his side with no low blows… same thing with yoongi who just listened and stated he didn’t get why they kept saying that they both “gave in to temptation,” and basically sold out and not real artists anymore. Both guys remained polite, understanding and didn’t let it get the best of them…. As army we should respect bts enough to do the same. Just my thoughts and I totally get that urge to educate at a small insignificant moment in the video where they made a big deal about it being 5 min. There were army there steering them into at least being open minded …that’s all we can ask for 💜
Fun fact one of the choreographers for this is only 19 years old and she is amazingly talented. You see her in the beginning of the music video.

The choreographer for this is in the MV. The girl in the beginning that they zoom in on... that's Sienna Lalau; a 19 year old from Hawaii. She also did the choreo for Dionysus, as well as How you like that by Black Pink, and at least two songs by Treasure. :)

The choreographer is the young lady in the front, center of the "drum line" in the very first scene. I believe that she was only 17 when she choreographed this for BTS. She's American but has (and still does) choreographed for many of the top Kpop groups.

All the complexity of the dancing can't possibly come across in the mv (for all their mvs tbh), you should watch some of their dance practices so you get to see what they're like behind the scenes practicing the choreo!

Well, when there were clash of 1D fans and ARMYs I was sleeping in a cave HAHAHAHHA. I like her (the one in the middle) being genuine though. She's not just all flowery words when faced with BTS stuffs.

I love that you guys said the first thing I said when I saw BTS, which was, "I love that EVERY member has their moment.". That's something you don't see with western boy bands. Not to mention their music is good, their choreography is insane and on point, and they're just good at everything.
Also, I noticed off the bat that with western boy bands (Backstreet, N*Sync, One Direction, etc) there are 1-2 hot dudes and the rest are meh. Dude, ALL SEVEN of them are hot af. HOW!? How? Whoever put these seven dudes together deserves all the awards ever to exist, because you are some kind of music industry rainman.
For reference, I fought watching BTS for a longgggg time. I was teaching myself Korean as a third language (on and off) for about two years before I caved to pressure to watch k-pop... I'm so glad I saw BTS, because they are destroying western music and it's amazing.
I know that k-pop (especially) is normally as cookie-cutter, trained as can be, and that they work these people for YEARS on music, dance, looks, swag, etc., but still.... these dudes crush even those lofty expectations.

@@Yetti. Thank you!!! I don't see it as interesting, I see it as dumb on my part because I am 100% someone who, the more something is popular, the less I wanna see it. 🤣 Which is why I've never seen Breaking Bad, Lost, and almost any movie you can think of. lol.
However, I have many a tip on learning Korean, literally too much to write in a single comment. I'm not on Instagram often, but shoot me a DM (I'm JSainte on IG) and I'll gladly write out and share everything I know about learning Korean. There's so much to address after two years of working on it, but I'd LOVE to share it with you because it's all stuff I wish I knew before I started. If you message me, and I come up with a succinct, clear version, I'll gladly post it here for your followers, too, in case any of them are interested in learning Korean. Everyone learns differently, so I will include what apps, language programs, books, etc., are best for your specific reason for learning Korean (speaking, reading, writing, or all of the above). I've tried just about every app, every book, every program, every YT channel, etc. Through my wasted time and money, I'm sure I can help you, and others, save precious time and money.

In the West, "boy band," is a pejorative term; it's a diminutive, meant to lessen the importance of not just the artists themselves, but also the people who choose to listen to them.
It's not dissimilar to the way the term, "teenybopper," was coined by marketers to refer to teenaged fans of Elvis etc., in the 1950s. It's no coincidence that it refers mostly to girls, just like it's no coincidence that fans of, "boy bands," are stereotyped as being teenyboppers. Anything that girls like is considered inconsequential. Industry people that refer to, "boy bands, " & "teenyboppers," are being condescending and, unfortunately, a lot of regular folks have adopted the same attitude.

I'm glad you kinda asked them to shut up and watch, because the comments on irrelevant stuff were going to piss me off (How long is this video? ... shut up and you'll find out, you got somewhere else you got to be? 🤣, and tbh the early focus on outfits too, but just a little bit). Once they settled down I am pleased they actually liked the performance as it is. Surely no one can deny the energy and talent, never mind complete all round excellence, and you could observe the change in them as they watched which was nice. I am also pleased for you - they started to watch this out of respect for you, then came to like it because of the performance itself.

If there's one thing that's actually true when people talk about the difference between the generations, it's the shorter attention span (which is understandable with how content is delivered these days). I can't imagine thinking 5 minutes was an unreasonable amount of time for a song. :)
