Notice the change in her eyes the moment he started singing. That’s what these singers today will never accomplish. It wasn’t about money, fame etc. it was about expressing. Unmatched!

There are plenty of singers that can sing today. Sam Cooke was very wealthy owning his own record label and also was very famous. He’s the GOAT, that’s for sure though.

@@jasonfrereSam Cooke IS ONE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTIST, MUSICIAN, WRITER OF HIS SONGS TO OWN ALL OF HIS CREATIONS! THIS....MAY HAVE "FURTHER LENT" TO HIS VIOLENT DEATH WHILE HE WAS STILL POPULAR AND GROWING IN POPULARITY DURING A CHALLENGING AND TROUBLED TIME FOR OUR PEOPLE....SIMPLY LIVING IN SOCIETY! HE WAS BLACK AND PROMINENTLY VOCAL FROM HIS PLATFORM DURING THESE TROUBLED AND CHALLENGING BUT SLOWLY CHANGING TIMES THAT SHAPED AND PAVED SEVERAL "AVENUES" THAT WE GREW UP WALKING IN, DOORS THAT WE WALKED "THROUGH", PROMINENT JOBS THAT WILL NOW "HIRE US", PARTNERS THAT WE CAN NOT JUST "SHACK UP WITH OR SNEAK AND DATE ON THE LOW BUT OPENLY DATE AND MARRY WITH CHILDREN, PURCHASE AND OWN PROPERTY ANYWHERE INCLUDING PLACES WHERE PEOPLE THAT LOOKED LIKE US "WAS LYNCHED"! Sam Cooke, one of the best voices ever. A gospel singer in the 50s, he then sang popular music for a few years with that amazing voice. Listen just once to "Bring It On Home to Me"... and you just might.

There are some artists who are so talented that they are in a true class of their own, and Sam Cooke was one of those. I reckon he could sing a shopping list and make you cry.
It's to humanity's shame that the change he was singing about hasn't been fully realised yet.
Thanks for the reaction. Take care.

I cry every time I hear this song. And whoever went to the trouble of editing the video that you watched here deserves a round of applause, too. Really nice. Sam Cooke had a few other songs worth hearing and reacting to, as well. Check out "You Send Me," which rose to #1 here in the US, "Chain Gang," which rose to #2 on the charts here in the US, and "Shake," which was released after his death and rose to #7 on the US charts. Oh, and here's a fun little interview Sam Cooke did with Dick Clark shortly before his passing: ruclips.net/video/5WfkO0fE31I/видео.html

Video cool but that rainbow clip could’ve been left out. Im born black is why I go through some difficult times at times. But they weren’t born gay. They’re false advertising. Muhammad nor Malcolm back then and If was here now wouldn’t be for that rainbow stuff. And they couldn’t shove it down their throats either. Respect for all yes.

Hi Jay! I’m Richard from the province of Québec (Canada) and I like your channel. I subscribed a little while ago but this is my first comment. I am a huge Elvis fan and a fan of music in general. I wanted to say that Sam Cooke was a great artist/singer/songwriter and an important one then and now. People should know more about this man. There is a very good documentary about him on Netflix that everyone should see. I think he was very respected and inspiring to Elvis and John Lennon, among others for songs that came after such as « If I Can Dream » and « Imagine ». Thank you for sharing your reactions with us.

I am so so so happy that Sam Cooke seems to be getting the just some of the rebirth he's been owed for far too long. Bob Dylan gets all the credit, and he was an incredible poet with a guitar, but Sam Cooke makes you feel it in your bones. He grabs your heart with both hands and doesn't let go. We are a lesser world without the brilliance of Sam Cooke, but I hope we can someday be the better world he hoped for.

Oh Where do I begin? I' m a 52-year-old white guy raised in Southside Virginia. I grew up on a tobacco farm. By most people's views, I should be a traditional Southern racist. The crazy factor in all of this is that my grandparents are straight off the boat German Immigrants. I grew up speaking English to the outside world, German to my family, and Spanish to a lot of the farm workers. This song is such an amazing part of my youth. I can't identify as being black, but I know how it feels to be the grandson of immigrants. For the curious, my experience hurts like hell, and makes me a lot more tolerant than "I'm Supposed to BE." I hope that some people figure that out.

The song was inspired by various events in Cooke's life, most prominently when he and his entourage were turned away from a whites-only motel in Louisiana. Cooke felt compelled to write a song that spoke to his struggle and of those around him, and that pertained to the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans.
Though only a modest hit for Cooke in comparison with his previous singles, "A Change Is Gonna Come" is widely considered one of Cooke's greatest and most influential compositions and has been voted among the greatest songs ever released by various publications. In 2007, the song was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress, with the National Recording Registry deeming the song "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important. In 2021, it appeared on Rolling Stone's list of the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, ranked at No. 3.
