2 years in on my JK station boots and I would 100% recommend them. I fly helicopters for an EMS company and it makes getting a uniform on very quick. It fits my foot like a glove and gives support when I need it on a scene call. I like the added Thinsulate liner for negative temperatures like I'll have tonight. Thank you Cody for teaching me about these.
I found your videos when I was a teenager, one of the first outdoor equipment reviews I ever watched. I have recently started watching things on RUclips again and i appreciate everything you have taught me about gear care and Maintenance. Thank you.
We don't need fancy pants and lollipops 🍭 It's the passion for what you're creating that keeps us coming back for more. Looking forward to the livestream coming back again. God bless you and your family
Love being along for the ride ! It’s very enjoyable and your regular attention to detail is a great reminder to take care of the things I am responsible for !
Cody I have learned more from you than you would flow and sometimes more about calmness and perspective and attitude than anything else. Thank you so much I've been enjoying these things more and more with your help for a while now.
Even though I’ve watched you oil your boots and sharpen knives an uncountable amount of times it’s always a great time. A good reminder to care for things that care for you. This reminded me that I need to oil my work boots this weekend, even though they’ll end up all muddy on Monday. Great video!
Howdy there Cody ! Iv'e found out that oiling my boots is therapeutic to me , it's relaxing. I use a 50/50 compound of bees wax and Vaseline on my boots. It's a darn good waterproofing treatment. I rub it on by hand then use a hair dryer or heat gun on the leather to soak the compound in really good then I apply a second coat and heat that in. The treatment usually lasts all winter depending on how much water and snow I'm in.
This video brings back memories from when I was a kid. My dad used to clean and grease his boots. I learned from him, and I used to do so from middle school on. But I have not done it much recently.
I believe JK says to never oil the stacked leather heel. Not sure why, maybe it affects the adhesives between the layers. I always do a light oiling, just enough to bring the color back and have never found a problem with it.
Your videos are like catching up with a friend. Content about tools, heavy equipment projects, life advice, shop projects, and life as a content creator are what I look forward to.
I still use the stiff nylon brush you recommended years ago to do the initial cleaning. You introduced many of us to PNW boots. I now have JK, Nick’s and Franks now. I’ve been a long time fan. Bless you Cody.
There’s no way I would spend $800 on a pair of boots unless they were guaranteed for life and the most comfortable known to men. I thought it was bad enough when you were recommending $400 Danner elk hunt boots. But this is just insane.
He does seem to recommend a lot of products that I'd venture to guess most of his subscribers couldn't afford to purchase. $800 boots? C'mon. Most influencers get their products for free as well...I doubt many of them would drop their own money on half the items they're shilling.
For everyday wear/working, no freaking way. A pair of Timberlands will do me just fine.... I will admit my Gaerne SG-22 goretex dirt bike riding boots were over $650 but they are for a very specific purpose and i should have them a decade or more like my last pair.
@ I wear Timberland Professional...soft out of the box, never need breaking in. I get a few years out of them. But yeah, I agree...special applications require special gear.
You can get the JK Fire Inlander for $600 off the shelf, not custom built. It's worth it if you're working in steep terrain. I've had Danners in the $400 range. Burned through them in four months. I'm going on three years with my JK Fire Inlanders. They could use a resole, but other than that their still in great shape. That's another notable thing. You don't have to rebuy the boot. A resole is reasonably affordable, and you have the option of having them rebuilt as well. He's also not exagerating when he says they don't require break in. They're the first pair of boots I've had that I could lace up and go hike hard with, and not come home with blisters. And I've tried quite a few. If you need them, the price is really not an issue.
I've dropped my own money on a pair of boots like this. Custom Nick's Builder Pros. I can promise you they are worth it. I've only had them for about 5 months, so time will tell how long they last. The general consensus is that with proper care, I can easily get over 10 years or more out of them. I'll also say that they are hands down without doubt, THE MOST comfortable footwear I've ever owned. I usually wear them 16hrs a day and I find myself not wanting to take them off when I get home.
I use Obanaufs on my vivobarefoot hiking boots and they are so soft and comfortable, really makes a huge difference even when your boots arent fully leather
Definitely sir, I enjoy this sort of content! This sort of video is how I found you years ago probably 2013. When I became self-employed and was looking for a better gas can. I remember you made a video about all the horrible gas cans that are out there. I just remember how it resonated with me how badly I hated those "spill proof" government cans! And thinking this guy gets it. I never did end up buying any of those expensive wavian fuel cans 😂 I did however find a higher quality plastic one that I can endure. Anyhow over the years I became a loyal fan and have learned a ton from your channel. My wife thinks I'm crazy for paying some random dude money to be able to watch him. Sorry to ramble on. But I almost never commented even though I've been watching you for over 10 yrs
I’m going on 5 years on my custom JK boots and I recommend them to everyone I know. I was going through a pair of Justin work boots every 6-8 months to the tune of 170 bucks a pair and my JK’s have been the best investment ever
Got a pair of warehouse OTs for my birthday in November... very quickly followed up with a custom set of Superduties that are due in June! The wait is killing me 😭
Just ordered a pair of JK OTs, I watched their self care video, jk does not recommend putting oil on eyelets, leather stack or soles. Oil causes separation in these areas. I recommend checking out the jk cleaning video. Love the channel!
I’ve been rocking a pair of superdutys with a composite toe with red x soles (volunteer firefighter) for just over 2 years. They were a bear to break in but now they are like wearing a pair of tennis shoes.
I bought a belt from Hank's Belts and the chicago screw broke right away, I replaced them with 1/4" Grade 8 bolts and locktite. No issues for 5+ years since.
Thanks for the videos sir. Hello from the northeast coast of Canada 🇨🇦. We know Americans are great. We love our neighbors and we feel that way due to our shared history.
There are so many sources for budget this or budget that. I come to Cody to see what is THE best, without any consideration of cost. If it’s too much, I simply don’t buy it. No need to complain about your income on here or scoff at how much quality hand-made goods cost.
One thing I've learned about expensive things (at least for me) is that I baby them. Too expensive to damage or scuff. I think I like the cheap durable (yet disposable because it is cheap) gear.
Depends on how you use your boots and what you're willing to pay I guess. I have to wear steel/composite toed boots for work. There's tons of options out there from really cheap Walmart stuff to expensive hand made boots. Have had good luck with Red Wing and Rocky but I also own a pair of Danners now.
I like to get those boots not soaking wet but kinda damp when I put that obenaufs on. I feel like it helps those pores in the leather open up a little and it can soak in better
I take a hair drier on low / med and heat up the sole stitch area THEN slab the goody into it👍👍👍 haven’t had issues with any boot but the cheapest🤷🏻♂️
Personally…. I like redwings GTEX already broken in….they last about a year of everyday use in construction without too much maintenance. They are around 400 with special insoles. They are good for welding but one needs to be careful with stepping on slag. Good for sustained water and snow exposure but would not be good for fire fighting without special soles. It’s nice to have a new pair of boots that don’t stink every year lol.
Do you use the ruff side or the smooth side for stropping? Also can you show us when and how to use the saddle soap on you next leather maintenace video. Thanx
I run thorogoods at home and redwing loggers at work. The redwings are the only boots I’ve gotten a year out of. I’d be interested to see how much better boots with Kevlar material wear.
What do you think about Chippewa logger boots. American made. I have had about three pairs of them and they are great. Break in is just a couple days if that long.
I actully just oiled my favorite leather LL beans. And my station boots. Leather last for ever if you give it some love. we like tagging along in the videos

I've been watching for 6 years and not missed a single video. We are just glad for any content, but love these videos as much as any!

I never had jk but I have been ignorantly liking my nick’s and haven’t had a problem. I believe the put tacks through the heel
Correct. Same with around the eyelets, so they don’t tear out.
Genuinely enjoy these videos Cody! Never a dull moment and I always learn something!

Yessir, loooove just hanging out looking at awesome, American-made goodness with ya, Cody! God bless you & the fam, brother🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like the hang out videos. Thumbs up for Mama Kitty!
We love the hang out sessions!❤ great content. It's the reason.
I love all the content!! I love the big projects as well as the random shop projects. I just love hearing your wisdom!
Your content is a breath of fresh air for me and probably all the men on this channel. Just a guy doing guy things!

I know it isn’t fancy content but man I enjoy a good boot or tool care video.
Thanks for the greasing laces tip. 5 months in and my laces haven’t snapped.
Definitely love the hangout/vlog style! Keep up the good work, sir, thanks for everything!
Well for me yes they are worth it 👍 Just got my second pair of Superduties 2 weeks ago
My Rockies have the false tongue too. I can't seem to wear them out.
@Wranglerstar REMEMBER, lace from the outside in (not inside out). Thank me (and Buckin') later. :)
Why is that?
@robertpothier1861 Holds much better. Try it for yourself.
A boot dryer is the single best thing I bought in the past year.
I’m going on 5 years on my custom JK boots and I recommend them to everyone I know. I was going through a pair of Justin work boots every 6-8 months to the tune of 170 bucks a pair and my JK’s have been the best investment ever
Love it...especially with the little kitty romin around...adds even more warmth to the vids🤙😎🤙
Got a pair of warehouse OTs for my birthday in November... very quickly followed up with a custom set of Superduties that are due in June! The wait is killing me 😭
Please continue to do these videos! Love them!

That hearth shield is beautiful
There's something about real leather that remains unparalleled.
Glad to see you beloved hoping livestreams are back Monday godbless
Loving hanging out with you Cody! Great video
I'm not sure why I like watching these leather care videos?😅 But I do! Love the the self defense bag videos too!
We enjoy everthing you come up with
Thanks for the videos sir. Hello from the northeast coast of Canada 🇨🇦. We know Americans are great. We love our neighbors and we feel that way due to our shared history.
Until there ring leader straightens himself out with tariffs they can pound salt.
That little fox fire knife seems like an awesome unit.
The shoe repair man whom also was a man of God once said " You can lose your heel..but don't lose your soul."
Love this style of content. Love it all really thanks for sharing. Those are some sweet boots and knives.
Good to see you back in the lab everyday.
I still get the web weekly every Tuesday lol, I use it as a fire starter.
Classic stuff, thank you!
After your last video with the obenhaufs... Had to pick up some for my cowboy boots
As usual, yer not wrong! Does anyone else think the white and red star vibrates soles in use wear faster than the original vibrant 100s?
They need to make these logger styled boots with zero drop heel.
I love my JK 300X's! My Harvesters should arrive in March.
Keep it up Cody! I enjoy all your content
Great Content! Thank you Sir!

Proper West Coast working footwear is your most important tool. Select accordingly.
I like to get those boots not soaking wet but kinda damp when I put that obenaufs on. I feel like it helps those pores in the leather open up a little and it can soak in better
Great cold and rainy day video!

I’ve had my Nicks builder pros rough out for over 2 yrs and have never put any oil or a brush on them lol. I need to do this
Would you ever do a series on hunting or fishing?

What do you think about Chippewa logger boots. American made. I have had about three pairs of them and they are great. Break in is just a couple days if that long.
There's little break in because they spec a softer temper leather. I suspect there's a tradeoff with that though
Loved this one
I actully just oiled my favorite leather LL beans. And my station boots. Leather last for ever if you give it some love. we like tagging along in the videos
Don’t put oil on your leather stack it can cause the glue to loosen up and delaminate
That baby is nailed glued and screwed. I don’t think the glue will let go
Excellent useful pointers!
A wooden or plastic PVC Boot Drying stand,is very important!
Bees Wax and Bear Fat is awesome to seal, treat leather boots.
My lifetime experiences in both hunting/ outdoorsman and military and civil law enforcement lifestyles/ careers including responding to the WTC Ground Zero after the September 11th 2001 attacks on America, have made me a propenent for tall boots; 16/17/18 inches tall. The Carolina Boot Company made a mistake to discontinue their excellent 16-inch tall Linesman's boots!
I miss the phantom random loctite bottles
Great video, there’s just something about keeping leather maintained.
What’s your take on putting otter wax on rough out boots ?
Can you show your hoses and gear that go with your waterbug pump? I have 2 and am fitting them out to be prepared for fire fighting and fire prevention when burning brush
Can you please do a update shop tour and tool box your
How often do you dress your strop with rouge?
Love this content. You can make un edited leather content and I’ll watch it. Maybe a video on stitching leather together?
Great video.
Have you ever tried the Kevlar laces?
HEY!!,WRANGLER!!! Do this same for your boots, waterline with pure beeswax!! This works waterprove way!! You need to warm heatgun same time when you apply wax for siemline!! But don't burn boots!!👌👍☺️✌️✴️🇫🇮🍀☀️🙏
Where can we find Joseph's holsters?
I got a pair of the Bear slayers, great boot. How does the suede "rough out" look after that wax dries? I'm using mine as a daily boot so need to take care of them, but don't want it to look like a horse took advantage of them romantically.
JK boots have been the easiest to break in. They are comfortable. I have 3 pairs of Superdutys safety toe. The first pair I will have rebuilt to a smaller size. The second pair has honey vibram soles. They are wearing fast so I bought a 3rd pair with red X soles. It takes quite a few weeks to get boots resoled. I can't be without a pair of boots for weeks on end. JK makes good boots.
