Jamaicans cannot change their heritage, yes its true, majority of Jamaicans are black, but they are not living in Africa now. Their ancestors were dragged by force and left all over the world, sold, illtreated and suffered all kinds of humiliation. Their place now is in Jamaica, sad that the leaders are still selling out the people to the highest bidder. This motto "Out of many, one people is just another ploy to fool and distract the people from their deviousness.Many Jamaicans ready to run with this motto, but when their Black man or men are running businesses, how many of them, especially those who think themselves a cut above the rest' will do business with the black man. Jamaican Government have not really develop the mind and body of the black Jamaican citizens, they have not develop the country around the ordinary citizens of the country, they lack foresight even hindsight when it comes to general development of country and people. So when the vultures realize the importance and benefit they can get out of the country of Jamaica they all alight on the Government with all kinds of proposals for development in the country with their purse opened, a grin on their faces and before you can say "Jack Robbin" large scale developments are in progress, and the common people knows nothing of it until development is in progress. Jamaicans want to take stock of what is going on and make noise about it if they are not happy with proceedings. One thing is for certain the God of creation will soon make landing, and will put a stop to all the injustices around the world. These people should know that that the all seeing eye is watching them, and I dont mean the one on the US dollar bill.

I was born in Jamaica and ever since I was a child I was taught by my grandmother that I’m African first and Jamaican second ,..we always love Africa. Mama Africa was always the one that kept us strong. Even when other people tried to defeat us. Africa always show us that we have to stay strong.

Wow! I'm Jamaican currently in the process of relocating to Ghana permanently and have been interested in this culture the people and its language for some time. I am absolutely amazed at the plethora of words that's from Ghana's different regions. Jamaicans are Africans specifically Ghanaians
One thing you won't miss when you relocate to Ghana is ackee. They have ackee there and most don't eat it. It has a different name though...can't remember. My sister was in Ghana 3 months ago and was telling me about it. All the best on your new journey.

@@shelbourneking4135 Languages but here we are talking about a code language that slaves invented by combining multiple languages together and defining a new meaning to them, while languages can indeed evolve as the dialect can change after a few centuries, but now in the case of a patois which is two distinct modes of communication in my opinion and not all patois is considered an official language such as creole, as the creole can have different meaning in every black country you visit!

Good for this young lady explaining the various words used in Jamaican Patois( patwa) and the various tribes and regions where the word/slang originated.
Lately I had some Jamaicans say in response to Belize that they sound the way they do because of Jamaicans having gone there as Labourers in the 17th Century and onward and therefore having that influence.
I wished to disagree with one guy's response by saying one can find the" Patwa" in several Caribbean Islands especially small ones where there was no Jamican influence .
Glad that she brought out the fact of the various Tribal words/ Slang which showed that the slaves from different Tribes were taken all over the Caribbean .
I also mentioned that populations of The English speaking Caribbean instantly understand each other without trying which emphasized my point .
Some places it is known as Broken English /( Brokun)or Kor Koi which is also the name of a variety of Plantain with the tendency to choke if not eaten with soup/ gravy when cooked green aka "Chokeman"
THE AFRICAN is so inventive that he invented also a totally new Language in the Colonies previously owned by the French called FRENCH PATOIS [ KWEYOL] spoken in countries eg. HAITI

Chinese in jamaica are less than 1 percent. Jamaicans of African descent is about 98%.

A similar sing-songy cadence and contact with a few thousand indentured servants is not conclusive evidence.

Oh my gosh 😮😮 I am from Belize and I recognize all those words in my Creole language. I am so happy to know from which tribespeople they originated. We are fast losing our Creole language to English and American. However there is a drive to make it as a language.
All those words means that the slaves were from all tribes. Can you imagine all these were thrown together and cannot communicate with each other; so gave birth to this hobbled language. From birth we spoke Creole and when we go to school and had to learn English; it was so difficult to understand. We were discouraged from speaking Creole in school or school grounds.
I am of the mind set of not supporting establishment as a language but now I have changed my position.

Even in African countries they have many different languages within the one country and don’t understand each other from another district, so how can Jamaicans even understand them? I'm from the Caribbean (Saint Lucia) and we say things like "men ye" to mean "I am" which is Akan/Ewe, Khaye (home) which is Zulu (home), Makak (monkey), Ackee (akan), Aiwa (pronounce "awa") is another word for "no" in Saint Lucian creole is also a Shona word for "no", "ZOT" means all of them also in one of the South African languages to name a couple.

In many ways we highlight that from our flags, coat of arms (which Saint Lucia includes the AKAN STOOL), our foods and how we cook them AND CALL THEM and most importantly is our DNA. That’s very important because it lets you know which islands the Chinese were able to enter at the time. They could not just enter Haiti and other countries that were being fought over between the English and the French. Based on the amount of battles they were only able to enter A COUPLE island countries and waaaaaaaay after the 16th century. We put in the foundation after the upon arriving here to find indeginous people.
