Haha I'm glad you think that's a good thing. I wonder sometimes if I should be using cubing lingo to describe the turning feel - "crispy", "buttery" etc, but then I figure so many people would have no idea what I'm talking about. (I don't even know what those words mean half the time myself haha)
@@Tingman I think non cubers are more likely to watch your channel than other cubing channel because your content is unique and is appealing to non cubers.
I have a video on solving using a pretty old Rubik's brand. It was pain. If that was hard for me, I can only imagine how much harder the 5x5 will be. 100% agree not to buy old Rubik's brands. By the way, this is totally unrelated to the video, but I have a few questions. 1. How do you balance your main work with RUclips and cubing? 2. I average about sub-24, but I can't get faster because my F2L is not too efficient. Do you have any tips for that? 3. How did you get the name Tingman? If you don't want to answer or it's in an older Q and A, it's totally fine. Great Video!
Thanks! Not sure when I'll do a Q&A next so I'll answer those questions here :) 1. It's tricky, I generally make a lot of videos on school holidays (I'm a teacher), but I recently also went from full time to part time teaching to carve out space for RUclips (and some study) so that helps. It's not easy, I'll say that much! But it's not too bad. 2. F2L is a tricky one. I started off by printing out Jperm's F2L document and then learning the subsets that interested me the most. I never finished the whole thing but I just chose the cases that I felt I saw really frequently and made my way through it that way. Walkthroughs really helped too. 3. Just a nickname from ages ago!
Hi Tingman! Great video as always! I'm a beginner to cubing and I have fallen in love with it. I'm still using the beginner method at a sub-40 solving-time. But a huge request I have for you is to make a complete tutorial on F2l, OLL & PLL for beginners, which I've been struggling to learn even after countless tutorials. Thank you so much, you're the best!!
Welcome to cubing! I will definitely make more tutorials down the track but my channel is a bit more about competition vlogs, family challenges and big unboxings! :) But watch this space!
When opening the packaging is almost harder than solving the cube… 😂 I’m in Hungary right now and the first thing I noticed arriving at the airport was the huge selection of Rubik’s puzzles. Gotta have to pick up a special one, before flying back.
Ok I've been cubing for about 15 years now. Over the past 15 years I've seen the Rubik's brand evolve a ton since I started cubing. Back then when I started cubing the Rubik's 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5's where one of the fewest options for actually speedsolving. But The Rubik's brand for the most part has been near the bottom of the line for recommended puzzles to speedsolve with. But with the new Spinmaster acquisition a few years ago Spinmaster has actually been improving the band some. To the point where we're actually getting truly good decent Rubik's brand puzzles. But the 5x5 hasn't really been updated that much in the past 20 years. Other than their core puzzles like the 2x2-5x5, keychain 3x3, and the snake they've released a ton of other puzzles. With those other puzzles they've only been region exclusive and/or only be on the market for a certain time period before getting discontinued. But overall they make some decent puzzles that are in the middle of the road in terms of speedcubes. Where there just above those crappy cheap Chines $1 cubes but not much better than the good proper Chinese Speedcubes that you can find on Daily Puzzles. Also Rubik's tends to overprice some of their puzzles mostly the 4x4 and 5x5.
11:40 I had the old one, it could turn the bottom layer if you rotate the top while only holding the middle layers, the rubiks pyramorphix turned better, mainly used the old 4x4 as 2x2 because the inner layers turned better, seriously, how do you make something that moves more parts easier to turn? cost here 30 US$ the time I bought it
i have the older 3x3 you mentioned, and after a lot of use it got CRAZY loose, even to the point where it pops. bad for non cubers, but honestly it turns like 3x better than out of the box after very minimal setup but the other one mentioned is better
My favorite Rubik's brand product is probably the "Rubik's Pyramid" (it's a Pyramorphix.) Where I am (U.S.), it's somehow cheaper to get pretty decent MoYu cubes than Rubiks'. Their Pyramorphix is fairly priced and slightly cheaper to go pick up a my local book/puzzle store than it is to ship another brand's online. Also, it's the most unique product they still produce (or at least from what I've seen) especially being an official shape mod.
I have the first 3x3 you opened. Same packaging. Mine is terrible. In fact, the first one I bought broke, and I had to send it back because of a broken tile. Second one is very loose.
I’m not gonna lie, but I saw a really easy begginer 2x2 in Barnes and noble, and found a bunch of other different rubix brands that I didn’t see in the vid
I don't know anything about Rubik's brand, but I am an Intuitive Slow Cuber. So my first focus was 2x2x2, and I have 8 different models. I'm also autistic, so the 'mouthfeel' of the turning is actually a big deal. For a sensory person like me, the way it turns is actually a big deal, because a good feeling puzzle will make you want to do it more. I don't know if you've seen those stimming toys with clicker buttons, but man, some of them have this perfect click and it's a perfect puzzle. I saw you said one was buttery; I gotta say I have one that I feel is greasy, and it's fine but not my favorite. I really like to switch it up. For me, it's not about speed, it's about the sensation of working out the puzzle. I just solved what I think is the maximum unit of parity on my pyraminx this afternoon and I'm just annoyed because I don't know quite how I did it.
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I have older versions of the 3x3 and 4x4(with stickers), and there’s definitely nothing speedy about them. Haha. I’m no speed cuber by far, but they even slow ME down.

I remember when I only had a Rubik’s Brand. I had it for soo long the Rubik’s logo on it weared out. Upgraded to this 5 Below puzzle that is still good to this day!
In the 80 you had this … well that was the first mass produced one from 1980, the first was from Hungary produced in 1978, btw with a 80 cube , finger tricks are hard if not modified, but they can be setup to get decent times . Even times of 17 seconds where possible
You should be optimistic about the shaky 2x2. You shouldn’t think that it’s a bad cube because it’s shaky, you should be happy because it doubles as a maraca. It’s a 2in1
The Rubik’s 5x5 you bought has the decent box which is on the Rubik’s 3x3 you bought. Old Spin Master box! You should buy the Rubik’s 3x3 and 5x5 with the new spin master box!

2:24 Hard to open?❌
Hard while opening?✅
In the 80 you had this … well that was the first mass produced one from 1980, the first was from Hungary produced in 1978, btw with a 80 cube , finger tricks are hard if not modified, but they can be setup to get decent times . Even times of 17 seconds where possible
Damn I enjoyed this video
A lot of people say solving the Rubik’s brand is harder but the real challenge is opening it
When he said "just like opening a ripe durian" got me laughing😂 LOL
I recently got a solved scramble on a 2x2. That must be as rare as winning the lottery.
You should be optimistic about the shaky 2x2. You shouldn’t think that it’s a bad cube because it’s shaky, you should be happy because it doubles as a maraca. It’s a 2in1
Waiting for the uncle tingman in 888k subs LMAO
Tingman when will you make the video about the insane comp
You are literally the best cubing RUclipsr ever! What is your favourite pll?
Rubicks cubes can corner twist I did it
The Rubik's speed is magnetic as well since its a GAN and Rubik's collab cube.
You forgot the Rubik’s Floppy Cube, aka the Edge
The video should start with a disclaimer "No matter what I say, DO NOT buy a Rubik's Rubiks Cube"
The Rubik’s 5x5 you bought has the decent box which is on the Rubik’s 3x3 you bought. Old Spin Master box! You should buy the Rubik’s 3x3 and 5x5 with the new spin master box!
