The tragic loss of lives due to a stampede driven by abject poverty in the land...people are hungry! In 2002 rice was like 1,500 per bag' if you want to share it you will see crowd of people will still go. My point is proper conduct is needed in any occasion.

Vice President Shettima is leaving in his 21 billion mansion house, less than one year later, more than 50 Nigerians dead, and many more injured scrambling for food. If this alone is not denigrating Nigeria, I don't know what else.
President Tinubu and his sycophants will claim that Nigeria is not the only country with poverty issues. Truly, poverty is universal, but the reality is that many in places, even the poor, can afford their own food and electricity or are sponsored by the government.
All the critics expected Mr Tinubu to narrow his goals to food production and electricity generating and distribution. Instead, he bought an airplane flying all over the world looking for investors and denigrating Nigeria.
For Tinubu's sycophants, one thing is certain, foreign investors will not grow the food Nigerians need.

Our obssession & constant comparisons with foreign countries where things work is part of the major mental blocks holding us back. What actually does work in Nigeria? When Nigerians stop looking into the mirror & placing themselves side-by-side normal societies; look inwards at their situation & find solutions, they will continue in their fools' paradise of endless suffering.

For those of you that were quick to call for the arrest of the organisers of Ibadan giveaway that led to a stampede, wont you also call for the arrests of Abuja and Anambra organisers too? Instead of people to call a spade a spade that people are hungry and angry, you are blaming people doing what the government has failed to do and the impatience in the lives of hungry citizens. Is this the first time people are organising giveaways? Why is this one so different? The downtrodden are becoming more than the ones managing and the ones living in plenty

Here in the United States.. 🇺🇸 there’s a capacity for event centers indoors or outdoors.. it can’t be exceeded! A lot of event centers even require insurance for the number of people attending the event! So the planner has to get insurance to cover everyone anticipated to attend! There should be a cap as to how many people can attend and also proper entry and exit ways with people hired to make sure the attendees are adhering to those ports of entry and exit! Lines should be formed and everyone follow! The other day I saw a video of Air Peace with people pushing and tugging at themselves trying to get on the flight.. that is crazy! In 2024?! Who does that?! Where on earth have you seen such madness occur ?!

  • @Zaramoku
    @Zaramoku 5 часов назад +6

I commend all the points reeled out by the anchors but I was stunned that none of them said anything about the indisciplined nature of the average Nigerian that triggers stampedes. Thirty-one years ago, when Buhari and Idiagbon took over the leadership of Nigeria, they recognized that the politicians were from the people and mirrored the people’s idiosyncrasies at the micro level. In other words, almost every Nigerian is an in-waiting thieving politician, only separated from acting out the thieving by the absence of opportunity.
This spurred the War Against Indiscipline (WAI).
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to assert that 99% of stampedes is caused by people trying to cut the line or attempting to get multiple rations, but getting opposed by those who uncovered the dishonesty.
If all of these measures recommended here, especially those of Sheyitan’s, were implemented, there would still be stampedes as long as the citizenry shows no regard for orderliness. Above all, who would bother with giving palliatives if organizing it would financially cost more than the did the actual palliatives?
Often, Nigerians get away with irresponsibility by blaming the leaders. The leaders are from the people, both are responsible for a healthy Nigerian society. How difficult is it to not scramble for more bags of rice when others haven’t gotten any? How difficult is it to proceed only when called and to leave when directed?
I write from experience; anyone who has engaged in helping out struggling folks will confirm what I written here - the mentality of Nigerians must embrace discipline again, else there will always be stampedes under these circumstances, even if you deploy battalions of soldiers.
We volunteered and distributed palliatives to New Yorkers during the COVID-19 shutdown; not once did we witness a stampede. Hunger doesn’t cause stampedes, indiscipline does.

      My friend, hunger causes stampede.
Hunger is only the tip of the iceberg called Abject poverty.
We are not talking about the common urge we feel to eat something when we are said to be 'hungry'.
The hunger that propelled those people to those deadly charity venues is borne out of hopelessness.
Many of them saw those opportunities as their last hope of clinging to dear life. Unfortunately they lost their lives.
      Blame them not.

There are Hungry people everywhere in the world, the humane or shameful ways each Country employs to address making food available to its downtrodden masses makes the difference.. Do you that in some sane climes, NGOs, beside setting up free food centres for the needy, they undertake free food supplies to the individual home of those who can't make it to the free food centres.
Until organisers of events that claimed lives of innocent Nigerians due to gross negligence of very important safety measures are charged with MANSLAUGHTER, these ugly and sad death incidents will not stop. 13:44

The ridiculous inefficiency and corruption and massive debt you've seen from all these places the government is putting their hand in is not enough for you? The main work of the government should be to focus on things like security and enforcing laws, creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive, and fighting against unfair practices like monopolies. If they were doing these things, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today. To be fair though, I think you do have several good points which I can agree with you on, but unfortunately the person in the initial comment was probably not talking about any of the things you mentioned. He was almost certainly implying that government should control the price of food items which would have extremely severe consequences.

Mitigate, crowd control, proper risk assessment and management, yes all these reasons leaving out the crucial reason hyper runaway inflation caused by poor economic conditions. No mention of the current government’s failure to provide for its citizens. All in all these deaths were avoidable no one should lose their lives because they went to get food 🍱

This is simple crowd control. They should put the people on a straight line before any distribution could take place. No organize line, no food distribution. The organizers should have security before any distribution of food. Kids should not be a part of this distribution. Nobody should lose their life because of food.

There's poverty in the land but palliatives cannot cure poverty. This is the issue with palliatives because it will add more to the problems on ground.

The bottom line is that many more people has been driven into poverty and desperation, this is the outcome, it’s not enough for this government to always attack people who try to tell them the reality,
This is not the first time people have been doing this kind of Christmas giveaway, some people does it every year and this kind of thing wasn’t rampant as it is now,
It’s just a testament of what has happened to Nigerians just within this few months of this government, they can dismiss it as usual but unless they change their attitude, this may just be the beginning, I hope it doesn’t happen again.

There is a general lack of health and safety culture in Nigeria. AriseTV, do your staff hold fire evacuation drills? Do you know your fire exits and muster points at your stattions? Importantly, the government cannot continue to say things are getting better, yet the number of people turning up to collect rice is on a significant increase. If this government continues with their current policies, more people will turn up for tissue paper in a few months. Government, change your ways and do better. Hardworking Nigerians are suffering and dying.

They jump queues and never patient in doing anything. A now now attitude. This is just generally a reflection of our society. It’s a total shame and unfortunate.
