    Do you realise you are one of the bravest people here on youtube who have spoken so openly about an audition they screwed up ? For us actors who want to get accepted at one of those drama schools it really is inspiring to watch other people accept their failure and move on and become stronger from that experience. Honestly not many people can do that...You will make it Winnie because you are determined and your experiences have made you a stronger person !! Btw are you applying again this year ? If I see you in any of my auditions this year, I'll come to say hi !

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  9 лет назад

      +MyName IsRamen Thank you so much for your lovely/amazing words, i really appreciate that! I am not applying again this year but I am on the foundation acting course at Rose Bruford which is amazing! But if you ever did see me at an audition defo say hi :) where are you auditioning for this year?

    • @thanostsarbos1197
      @thanostsarbos1197 9 лет назад

      +WinReviews I'll be auditioning for Central, Drama Centre, Guildhall, RADA, LAMDA, Bristol and Royal Welsh. Actually I haven't sent out any applications yet as I don't feel 100% ready (I'm getting a bit worried about this because I feel it's getting late). It will be my first year auditioning but im 23 and already have a UK non drama related degree (I'm not from the UK but another EU country)..I hope that counts as life experience and I've also done some amateur theatre, not much though..Btw any advice about personal statements ? Also what's your plan after the foundation course if you don't mind me asking ^^

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  9 лет назад +2

      +MyName IsRamen Oh coolio good luck with your auditions! And it's only too late when the deadline passes so send them off dude :) I understand your nerves but if you don't apply your not even giving yourself a proper chance at succeeding- lol cheesy line but true!!! And I have a degree in something else as well and it did make me second guess myself because I was like.. how will they take the fact that I spent three years in further education on subjects that are not performance based and actually have nothing to do with acting! However at the end of the day it is what I wanted to do at the time and made me realise acting is 100% for me so to answer your question your degree DEFINITELY counts as life experience.
      As for personal statements I feel the best advice I was given was to get to the point about why you want to go to drama school and what acting means to yo, don't waffle on and on and on with cliches and stuff just get to the point! I don't think the people reading the statements want to be half way through your personal statement and be like this is written/ structured like a beautiful poem but I have no idea why this person wants to be an actor or go into drama school lol. Well that's my opinion and the advice I was given which I found helped me but see how you feel with it. Oh and obviously let them know some of your top achievements and experiences; if those experiences are not acting based at least make sure to link it back to acting/ performing etc... do you get what I mean by that? My plan after the course is to get an agent and get more work on stage and on screen..... I know its going to be HARD AS HELL but I want to at least try! So keep your fingers crossed for me pleaseee! :)

    So happy I found this video, I had a similar experience. I auditioned for RADA last month and it was....a wake up call...to say the leaast. I hadn´t prepared very well at all but as I later found out during my therapy what I had done was, I was procrastinating preparing for the speeches because subconsciously I thought well if I´m not prepared and don´t get a second audition I can always say that that was because of my poor preparation. That way I won´t ever get hurt because if I do do my very best and fail.....that would the worst thing imaginable since I had built up these drama school auditions so much in my head and by doing that had put an unbearable amount of pressure on myself. I was doomed to fail either way as I proved myself during the RADA audition. I traveled from Belgium so this actually cost me a lot of money but it was a great lesson.
    So I hadn´t prepared very well at all. got called in for my audition. forgot my lines for my contemporary monologue and improvised it. I wanted to get out of that audition room as fast as I could but that wasn´t all. By the time I got to my shakespeare monologue I couldn´t get two lines out before I froze....I hadn´t practiced my pieces out loud or in front of anyone else. I just expected that the talent was in me so it would just come out. Boy was I wrong, people train for YEARSSSS. But yeah I thought I was having an anxiety attack. The lovely judge, bless her, tried to feed me some lines. Before I just couldn´t take it anymore and started to cry I asked If i could stop my audition and apoligised for wasting their time. They were really calm and nice about it and reminded me that i paid a registration fee and had every right to be in that audition room. I left and cried, and cried and I went to St Pancras station but my train didn´t leave for a few more hours back home and I didn´t want to do anything else so I just cried some more and wondered around before I could take my train back home. And cried some more. It was a great eye opener. I had a therapy session the very next day which was perfectly timed, I was able to talk everything through over the next few weeks so I could face reality of how I was really sabotaging myself when it came to these auditions. I have since picked myself up and have another audition coming up for Guildhall and LAMDA. I am confident I will not get a place this year, I don´t wanna sound negative but I´m just very unprepared. And I´m oke with that. the RADA audition scared me to death but i survived, that was the worst case scenario and it came true. I can only go up from here. Onwards and upwards. Sorry for the long reply, I REALLY hope this helps anyone out there to feel less alone. Good luck, and if it doesn´t happen this year it will happen on the next or through some other way. Remember why you´re doing this in the first place and how much you enjoy doing it.

      Sal sam I am really sorry to hear about your RADA audition and as you can tell through my this vlog that I understand how you feel about the whole freezing thing/ going blank it is NOT a fun experience at ALLLL! As for preparing, I prepared soooo much and that DEFINITELY didn't help me out when I mind blanked so I hope your not too hard on yourself about that- this s*** happens but it seems that u have learnt from your mistakes :). I also think everyone has had an experience with self sabotaging.... us actors/ performers/ people in general lol need to not be so hard on ourselves! Finally as for you thinking your not going to get a place you can't ever 100% know that! When is your auditions for Guildhall and LAMDA?

      WinReviews My Guildhall audition is later this month, I had to ask to reschedule because there's going to be an national strike on the exact day of my audition. LAMDA will be in Paris for me on the first of may :D I still haven't wrapped my head around these auditions. I'm trying to think of what they might like instead of just doing what I like.

    • @WinReviews

      Sal sam Well good luck with them both!!! And you should really do speeches that YOU feel strong and comfortable in! Pieces that really allow you to shine (cheesy but true haha).

    The exact same thing happened to me at Central last year, absolutely gutting. Half way through my Macbeth speech and nothing, like you, repeated and failed at the same point. Not a clue why..
    I went to guildhall's summer school last summer and it was amazing, totally worth applying again, basically had the best 3 weeks of my life there.
    Anyway! This year applied to Guildhall, LAMDA and RADA (couldn't afford to apply anywhere else) didn't even get past the prelims at LAMDA and guildhall absolutely heart breaking, I think it was made worse by the bluntness of who got recalled, which was just one guy out of our group.
    So yeah really sad times but then I got a place at RADA on their foundation course haha! Which I'm so happy about. Didn't want to spend another year of uncertainty and auditioning and like, RADA!
    What I think I'm trying to say is I've been auditioning for two years 1st year nothing, 2nd year nothing on the BA front but I get a place on RADA's foundation. You got a recall for the BA at guildhall, you WILL get an offer next year from somewhere great, because of your ability to keep at it and your sheer determination to be the best you can be, and because they recognised your talent this year! So yeah you'll get an offer, I'm sure of it :)

    You just need to approach to whole process differently...u need to be calmer and enjoy your self when ever u perform, and think of auditions as a performance... They WANT you to be great, they want amazing auditions. I am not a actor though i did have to do Shakespeare monologue on my Guildhall audition for opera... if it`s ur dream, audition next year again and kill it, and see u at school then:)

    I'm applying for next year's Guldhall audition and have a question.. The Homepage says, that you have to learn three monologues. When you pass the first round what do you have to do in the recall? Do you take the same monologues or three new ones?

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  8 лет назад

      Normally you take the same ones unless they tell you in the first audition to choose another speech (in my first round they asked me to choose another modern speech!) But I would drop them an email to double check that! Good Luck with your audition :)

      hey, I have another question. I just got the confirmation that my first audiotion is in November. If I pass the first one, is the second Audition immediately after the first one, or a few days/weeks later?

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  8 лет назад

      Normally it is not straight after (mine was a week or 2 later) but to be honest there is no way to know the exact time- why don't you email the school and ask when there recalls start.

  • @purple4now
    @purple4now 10 лет назад

    Also--May I ask, how did you find out "what they like" at a certain school?

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  10 лет назад

      Anna R There is no way to 100% know 'what they like' I just choose two speeches that I felt were contrasting but also something that i had a connection with and felt i could really show my best traits through! and tbh if they don't like your speech they will just ask you to do it a different way! or they may ask for an alternative one which is what happened to me. Funnily enough at my first audition at guildhall, when I got a recall and they were telling me and the other girl who got recalled about the details of the next audition, one of the directors (who was in my audition) was like winnie choose another contemporary speech one that is more suited to ur age and natural (i think she meant calmer in tone my original modern speech was very physical). BUT I honestly think what may work for me may not be right for you so just have a back up monologue just in case!

    • @purple4now
      @purple4now 10 лет назад

      Ah, I actually meant when you said that "RADA likes eye contact" (or it wasn't RADA, but someone)...

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  10 лет назад

      Anna R ohhh sorry! Yeh in my recall for Guildhall they wanted me to say the speech directly to them, like look the directors in the eye! But they specifically asked for that! All other schools where like can u not look at us while your performing!

  • @Lukas-wb1cx
    @Lukas-wb1cx 10 лет назад

    Hey Winnie, congrats on your recalled. Keep up the good work!! I wanted to ask, where did you find your monologes? Is there possible to find books, plays or smth like that in the local library? Where did you find everything? And how you choice them?

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  10 лет назад

      Hey Lukas, thanks for your comments and for watching! I was fortunate enough to have an amazing drama teacher that suggested some contemporary speeches to me but most of the speeches I found online and then went into my local library to find the full play. If they weren't in my library I looked for it on Amazon. Oh and as for choosing I had about a month or maybe a bit more of just looking at different speeches and seeing what I liked and wanted to work with! To be honest with you it was the classical monologue that I struggled the most with. I cannot tell you how many Shakespeare speeches I looked at before I found one I liked but once I finally found it I was like BOOOOOM I can do this- I choose the speech that I felt would challenge me the most but also had elements that I could relate too... ok I've talked or should I say wrote way too much here but i hope that was helpful?!?

    Heya I've just been watching your videos and hopefully you could offer some advice. I've just turned 23 and am in my last year of studying Psychology at uni. I've performed on and off since I was 10 but never really pursued it due to personal reasons. When I was 18 I really tried to get into it and went to countless castings for extras and non paying roles etc and it really broke me down financially and spirit-wise. I think I just wasn't prepared for how hard it would be. I tried to put it behind me but I always come back to wanting to perform and so am trying to find acting courses to better learn the craft for my basis. I am planning to audition for MA acting at Guildhall but I have no idea what and how to prepare as I don't go to acting schools or workshops etc to get help. So my question to you is where should I go from here???

    • @WinReviews
      @WinReviews  9 лет назад +1

      +Luc U I was in a very similar situation to you and I would suggest going to see new plays and seeing what type of speeches you would like to do for your auditions and what you connect too. Oh and go to the productions put on by Guildhall students (if you can), that way you can actually get a proper feel of the school! I would also suggest going to classes to brush up on your acting skills because I honestly believe all actors will never be 100% done with training (aka there is always something to learn- may sound arts farty haha but thats just how i feel). I hope that helps a little and good luck!

      Hey Chan, I have done quite a lot of different things when it comes to acting- I have done plays/ performances with The Talawa Theatre Company, The Roundhouse and The National Youth Theatre which is all based in London (where I am from). I have also done drama classes with different performing arts schools for as long as I can remember! Oh I have done a bit of extra work for adverts and stuff like that! and another oh lol I studied drama at A level and I obviously hope to get into drama school one day! Are you applying for drama schools this year?
