would LOVE to see a video on the new 40L given they obviously changed dimensions with this generation. 40L comparison with the Small Base camp please! Love your videos, Chris.
Hey Jason! Thank you!!! I'm really tempted to take a look at the 40L. I'll probably be returning the 55L so I may travel down to the Patagonia store and see if they have one in stock, which I'm guessing they do. Great idea comparing with the Base Camp! Stay tuned : )
6:40 When I originally did the math w/ the "60L", i thought it was more like a 52L bag. I still used it as a carry-on enough times. There were only a few times where I had to check it in, but that was more in terms of weight. (SE Asia prop planes)
When Patagonia decides to make the 55L bigger than 6OL... Dash: "That's not the way you're supposed to do it dad. They want us to do it this way." Mr. Incredible: "I don't know THAT way. Why would they CHANGE MATH?" Dash: "Ahhh, it's okay Dad--" Mr. Incredible: "MATH IS MATH!"
Oh boy. The last time I watched Chris make videos on duffel bags, I spent $360.00 That 55 in green looks great. You should check out BAD Bags too Chris. aka Best American Duffel bags. Yeah they should have kept the compression straps, but attached them closer to the bottom of the bag, to be more useful. They changed the handle fabric because the old version would crack. I just don't get how a 55 liter bag is much bigger than a 60. I guess they realized their volume was inaccurate. It's very misleading, but the new ones seem to be more rounded of a bag. They should have improved the shoulder strap and added a sternum strap, and made the outside pocket not go into the main bag, and added a lockable zipper to the main opening. Seems like a fail for Patagonia, as there is really no upgrade here. But the color is really nice.
Ha! Sorry about that spicecrop : ) The 55L is overall a nice bag, but you completely hit the nail on the head. My thought, as you mention, is I don't feel like it's a true upgrade to the bag. The size is very interesting. I would really like to check out the 40L to compare the size. Sounds like we need to send in our wish list to Patagonia for their next round of changes! Thanks for the recommendation on the BAD Bag! I've never heard of them and they look really nice. I'll definitely have to check them out. I always like seeing a bag that's unique and a little different. I hate to say it but seeing some Labor Day sales going on, so...
@@ChrisU You do great reviews and comparisons Chris. Thanks for the upload. Yeah BAD Bags are very good quality, but they need to update their color scheme. A real under the radar company, but made in the USA, 1000d Cordura, seat belt webbing and bomber stitching. Cheers.
The old 60 litre bag is in fact a smaller bag than the new 55 litre (how does that work?). The 60 litreis the right size for carry-on luggage while the new 55 litre is not. Pretty disappointing. Wish I could find an old 60 litre bag.
Black Hole Duffel 60L👊 They can have that oblong 55L😏 If I were you I would be sending it back. Why do manufacturers always screw up a good thing😟 Glad I have the original with the slick feel carrying handles, compact look and compression straps. Oh, and I get an A+ for figuring out how the backpack straps attached without any guidance 🙌
Global Adventurer, ha! I always love hearing your thoughts : ) I have to admit not the "updates" I was hoping to see. I'll add a couple of gold stars with your A+
@@ChrisU I think the only way I figured it out was based on all the other contraptions I've purchased over the years for ⛺camping, RVing and traveling. However, I've never repacked any of my duffles back into their zippered pocket, I'll leave that to you😂
I agree. May seem silly but even though the 60L may be slightly smaller the shape looks better. I also think the 55L has a bigger chance of getting stopped at the gate as opposed to the 60L. Not to mention the loss of the internal straps. I like the bigger pocket as opposed to the double pocket on the flap but that's so minor. Patagonia is notorious for taking away good features. Happens on all their bags. Someone also pointed out the carry handles are shorter which will affect the way you carry it on your shoulder though they are not shoulder traps. That's a big deal. Thanks Chris.
my gf bought me the 55L black one. She has the 60L you presented in this video. Thanks for making this comparison video. very helpful!

Hey aaalllen! Great info, thank you for sharing!
Worth mentioning the handle strips are a lot shorter in the new version, making it difficult to carry the bag on the shoulder.
Thank you Joseph!

Run the Alps in France appears to have some 60 liter bags for sale with the Run the Alps logo (google the name and check the “Shop” page
Is it me or do the 55L looks super bigger the otherone
Hey Colin! I believe you're right! I was hoping to see a slightly smaller bag but...
Maybe next time!
Which one is better? I have a chance to score a brand new 60l
So, the 55L is bigger?!
