I love him! Not only is his work mesmerizing but he's also very encouraging with his comments, makes one feel that if they practice hard they can do this is well - talent has to be developed. That's a great teacher as well as artist. Really good interview, Brian!
haha thanks! I try to do interviews whenever I can, especially in these Goulet Guests series. Usually it's over Skype due to geographic limitations, but every chance I get, I like to sit down with cool people in the pen world. I just couldn't pass up the chance to sit down with Jake! -Brian
Thanks to you both for the discussion. Jake had some good insights. I like his thought that, "In our day and age, we find a thousand ways to entertain ourselves but we can't find one way to better ourselves." And another, "...to wipe the muck and mire from people's eyes, so they can see the beauty around them."
OMG! I was soooo excited to see that you were interviewing Jake Weidmann!! I deeply admire his talent, innovation, and dedication to calligraphy and other art forms. I was enthralled! You can tell there was a great exchange going on. Interesting that you both work with your spouses and have such unique relationships. What a wonderful interview. :)
Oh my this was a beautifully conducted interview. Two people that I look up to sharing a conversation about things we share interest in.... and allowing us to be a fly on the wall? Yes please!
My apologies for the 2nd comment but I just finished watching the entire video and it was just so beautiful. You both touched my heart. Jake is so humble and just lovely, my goodness. I'm 52 and when I was 32/33, I could honestly say that I was happy then and happier now with my husband of 26 years and the love of my love for 31 years. Keep doing what you're doing now without over thinking life! :-).
such a great video! really enjoyed it, it was a surprise to see Jake Weidmann on my notifications that I had to stop eating and see this awesome interview. Thank you Goulets!!!
Love Jake Weidmann so much that a few years ago I purchased one of his calligraphy art, "Crown of Script". His calligraphy is beautiful. There's simply NO SHORTCUT to this work of art. I took calligraphy in high school and I don't ever regret it. Glad you had him on. Great interview!! Practice does make progress; be intentional. How great is this. Oh and his baby is so cute!!
I have been looking at his work on his website - how does it work to purchase? Are those prints or does he actually put pen to paper and make each individual art piece? If they are not prints I would definitely love to invest in his collection
@@chrys77cross his originals are sometimes for sale. I know my purchase was for a limited edition print and I'm totally fine with it. It's truly beautiful. I say do what your heart speaks to you.
@@SunflowerAV I've checked out his website and mulled over the idea of purchasing a print. He pours so much into the design it's worth it to me even though it's not an original 🖋️
Great interview! Thanks a lot to Brian, Rachel and Jake! You guys are source of inspiration and all that's wonderful with this beautiful community. Keep rising!
Thank you both for doing this interview. Jake, thanks for being bing do free of self and time. suggestion, when doing the interviews, could you place their links to at least one of the social media?
Hi... I first found Jake Weidman on a TED talk... well worth looking at... You know, he did a portrait of Christ from ONE single line, one pen stroke application, ! ! ! AMAZED ! its in the TED talk if you want to look at it... I was SO blown to bits when first discovering him. My penmanship can be summed up in one word...Crap. But to see a guy like Jake and as young as he is, Whaow ! he must have picked up a pen whilst eating his rusks... Only twelve of these guys in the whole world ! its stunning that. Finding the pen community got me back into pens, inks, paper, about 4 yrs ago now and I bought a calligraphy DvD by Denis Brown, no relation to our SBRE btw, and that got me really fired up to try, Denis is a stunning calligraphic artist who was engaged to oversee the Great Book of Ireland. Calligraphy, as much as I love it and penmanship too, is just not in me, Im awful at it, its just not there, however by just letting the obsession develop now I'd found the fountain pen community, my scribble did improve to scrawl... cosmic universe apart, Jake is just, well, the English language cant describe how gifted an artist he is, just wonderful, stunning and he's not annoying with it either. What he said in the interview with Brian was really thought provoking and helpful. His work, all this he does are with nibs costing pennies in a holder costing a couple of quid/bucks... this interview was really inspiring, by two guys who inspire. Thank you Brian for pulling the stops out at the show to get the interview, and Thanks to Jake for being...Jake. Best wishes as always to all pen people. LeZc @@
+Lez Cartwright I don't particularly have a gift for calligraphy myself either, and watching Jake definitely makes me realize that! You're very welcome, this was cool for me :) -Brian
Thank you, had a look at the Spencerian Ground nibs. He did another video a better demo whoever the calligrapher is. Theres some wonderfully talented penmen out there.
Since Brian mentioned it, I went to Jake's instagram to see their family photos. I got an inferiority complex from looking at the photos, damn it. Great video, thank you, thoroughly enjoyed the interview!
+Wolverine3660 lol, not sure, we get a few down votes on every video. Must be a couple of grumpy Gus's that like to watch our stuff but think it could be better :P -Brian
Amazing talk Brian, I have a question for Jake... How many dib pen nibs you used and how many paper sheets of paper you used to become the master penman you are now? Don't tell about ink ??? I love his skills.:)
i jut bought a pilot metropolitan and it came today super excited BTW but i wanted to know what the name of the blue ink was that it came with ....looks almost like bad belted kingfisher but im pretty sure they wouldnt be sending a noodlers ink ...is this a normal practice for pilot to send out a cartridges fillled with the same colour for pens bought around the same time ?? ...Brian and team keep up the good work i only got into FP after stumbling across your page like 3 weeks ago glad i did im learning alot from this channel
It should have came with a cartridge of Pilot Namiki Blue (www.gouletpens.com/pilot-namiki-blue-60ml-bottled-fountain-pen-ink/p/PN69201 ), though that's a bit lighter than BB Kingfisher. - Colin
DA Black does have some grey tones to it (www.gouletpens.com/de-atramentis-black-35ml-bottled-fountain-pen-ink/p/DA1044 ) so I wouldn't point blame just yet. But a thorough cleaning, making sure the tines are aligned & maybe flossing between them could help improve the ink flow. - Colin

INCREDIBLE INTERVIEW! Love this! Thank you, Brian!
This. Is. Awesome! Hugs to you both! It’s great to see two of my favorite people together in one video ☺️💕
Thanks Kara! I think all three of us need to sit down together next time and chat...that would be pretty cool! -Brian
I saw the notification, read 'Jake Weidmann', read it again, and watched the video :D Brian, you should be doing more of this interview stuff.

great interview! 2 of my favorite 'pen guys' in the same video... cool ;)
"For each art form there are ten more that I'd love to learn, but I just don't have the time." That's what heaven is for!!! 😁😁😁
That's what heaven is for...I love that. Imagine the composer's, the musicians and the artists that will adorn the walls of heaven into eternity.
Great interview, great subject.
Thanks, couldn't agree more :) -Brian
What a thoroughly talented and nice man.
"Stick to what your learning, don't let too many other things creap in.... study as much as you practice.." fantastic advice.
And he lives it out, too. He shows what you can do if you find what you do well, study hard, work with discipline. -Brian
Wonderful interview, Brian!!!! Thanks a lot. BTW, what's with the 2 guys who did not like this video and gave it a "thumbs down"?

Don't tell about ink ??? I love his skills.:)
Master Weidmann is my hero. That's all I have to say.
It would be so cool if he did more of this. Maybe even celebrities that aren't specifically master penmen with cool fountain pen collections.
Would love to do more Goulet Guests! Hard to get in contact with those celebrities though. :) - Colin

Legit didn't think twice when I read that name!
Great video? You mentioned a book on writing,, but didn't referenced it. Would like to get it.

My fountain pen kinda failed on me, I have a deAtrementis black ink in it, but grey comes out, in an inconsistent way

Immediate click 😂😗👌
Can at least say Thank You in electric ink...
@aidanbernal I can see you achieving this, my friend!!
