Been travelling to Amarillo once a year for over 10 years for work. I have never seen that stretch of I-40 when it was not under construction.
And despite all the roadworks it's still the most terrible stretch of 40 I travel. Bouncing and dancing all through Amarillo
Yep. They can't even finish the loop. Every idiot is working center city.
It still is under construction. Lol
I live here and it's definitely always under construction.
Hard working Rough people, rough country ( not for the weak) for the most part honest people GOD fearing people. .. When I'm here I want to leave... when I leave, I long for it.
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!
Last sentence couldn't be truer.
Proud resident of the Golden Spread
They work so hard the highways/roads are always under construction, yet never fixed?
GOD BLESS TEXAS INDEED!
@@InterstateKyle ......
Yes and He will again and again.....
I grew up in Amarillo and in panhandle Texas. Now live in the trees in northern Georgia. I love the green and I love the trees but I still miss the plains.
My wife and I were in Amarillo yesterday. Visited my son and daughter-in-law and watched a Amarillo Double A baseball game.
@@jenniferwebb5954 Are comments like this really necessary? Do you have anything nice to say?
@@jenniferwebb5954 I honestly didn't notice the empty shops and every where we go is road construction, so I just take it with a grain of salt.
@@InterstateKyle our taxpayers just spent over $200 million on downtown renovations; hardly anyone pays to go to the new ballpark (if they go, the tickets are likely complimentary) and 95% of the new shops that we needed so badly, are empty. So yes, come visit our small town and help us get out of debt
Amarillo Sod Poodles.
@@joelanderos23 Yep. Funny name for a Prairie Dog.
Born and raised in Amarillo, moved to Houston in 1991. I get back there very occasionally. This was fun to see. They moved Cadillac Ranch further West when the city started building up around the original site. About 15 miles south on 27 is Canyon. If you head east out of there, the prairie opens up into a big canyon. Palo Duro Canyon has a wonderful history and there's an amphitheater out there that does the musical "Texas" nightly from June to August.
That's a cool fact I didn't know about, thank you for sharing! :)
Amarillo is absolute trash homeless people everywhere shootings constantly
Not many Road Warriors did videos of Amarillo, so this is treat for us. BTW former US 66 is still drive-able in the city (I-40 Business) & I heard it still has the feel of the days when the highway's hey day.
I hope you enjoy visiting the Cadillac Ranch despite what looks like a storm's a brewing in the area.
I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been as well. I mean, it's a major stop on Route 66 and you are correct, we will drive on a very small portion of it in the next video. Thanks as always for tuning in!
it's amarillo the stuff just goes around or waits till out of amarillo to rain
@@demakos1939 called the ole amarillo split
i40 business also known as the blvd is boring lots of hookers at night, lots of dumbies during the day, really beat down, most buildings are uninhabited, full of hispanic bars and clubs and lots of taco trucks. I have a feeling thats not how it used to be
Amarillo ...
I remember when we had an air base.
The hot wind blows the dirt so bad sometimes that we have brown out warnings. Rain is rare here but we do get it sometimes.
Great footage. I knew even before I clicked that Amarillo By Morning was going to be in the soundtrack lol, definitely one of country's all time classics!
Thank you!
At 1:34 is the Big Texas Steakhouse. If you eat a 72 oz steak along with two sides, you get it for free. My elderly stomach is not up to that task so I settled for a 12oz strip steak with baked potato and veggie and was most satisfied.
I used to work there as a waitress and get my butt grabbed by all the perverts that come in there. That's normal for Texas
Outstanding video. My grandfather (Charles Warford) & Stanley Marsh were great friends before they both passed away. Wonderful men. I still have family living in Amarillo & the surrounding area. Again, fantastic vid 👏🏾. Greatly appreciated.
Idk that Stanley marsh was a wonderful man lol
@@stefancook3411 ok.
Born and raised in Amarillo. The Marine Corps took me to North Carolina then Virginia, now I'm in the mountains of the northwest.
I had a brilliant idea a long, long time ago. I didn't need to worry about paying for college for the kids. I just needed to teach them how to operate heavy equipment. Decent money and perpetual job security in road work here in Amarillo!
Cop, prison guard are very lucrative careers there too. Lots of prisons around there's one in every little town
Born, raised and lived in the Texas Panhandle for 54 years. Left there in 2006 for Southern Middle Tennessee. Love the lakes, creeks and trees here but, I truly miss the Panhandle!! thanks for sharing this video.
I like Amarillo... I have 5 nephews living there with their families... Great little cow town!!! Looking forward to visiting there again as soon as I can! Uncle Phil
Hot as hell there bring shorts and short sleeves in the winter bring a heavy jacket and a beanie to stay warm it gets pretty cold
It's kind of disappointing seeing I40 under construction after so damn long of them "fixing it"
Lazy management...
Lived in Amarillo 73yrs never gone to see old caddies.
I'm a newcomer (42 years). I never understood the attraction to the Cadillac Ranch. Maybe a tourist can explain it to me.
We love Amarillo Texas they have good Restaurants concerts shows. So much more
It’s like every town in texas has a song written for it lol
You aren't wrong, lol
@@InterstateKyle Fritch TX? Borger TX ? Dumas TX ? Clarendon TX? Not even half of Texas towns have songs!!
@@jamesjetty625.....
Right....
AND FYI....
the original Amarillo by Mornin was written and sung by Terry Stafford who was from here and went to the same hs I did. I graduated a few years afterwards. He is buried here in Amarillo. Mr. Goetge just made it a much bigger song and more recognized than Terry did......
TRUE FACTS.........
@@lindatimmons3675 and the person who wrote “Cowboy take me away” was from Amarillo
Yes b/c we are awesome in Texas ! The only state flag that can fly at the same height as the America flag .
Thank you for stating Amarillo is in the Panhandle of Texas. 90% of people think Amarillo is part of West Texas. Those people do not know their geography!
Passed through here from my trip from Los Angeles to Dallas-Fort Worth Area, totally beautiful area and takes about 5 hours to get from Amarillo to DFW by using the US-287
Grew up in Amarillo, but not my entire life. I don't remember the base open, but my parents met on that base (that unfortunately closed) and married. We lived in Madrid, Spain and Vandenberg AFB, Ca. After my parents divorced, mom & my brothers moved back and l eventually followed. I graduated fr Palo Duro High ('89) and wouldn't change those days for the world. Amarillo was home and had family there & made great friends. I couldn't wait to leave it and now l miss it so much and my wonderful memories there. Just like Eddie Money's song, "l Wanna Go Back," If only l could go back in time. :'( l now visit Amarillo, but it's not the same since mom passed away. However, it's always nice to see old friends and family during my visits. God bless Amarillo. P.S. My favorite job was at Piccadilly Cafeteria in Westgate Mall. Worked with an amazing crew who l loved and adored.
First time in Amarillo, was September 2022. I just cried. Soon as we got there.
Great, I'm from Juarez, Mex, now I live in Cactus, Tx and I go to Amarillo each time I have an oportunity to go
I never knew anyine else did "Ol' 55." I'm so used to hearing Eagles do this. Great video!
Thank you Jeff!
Kind of weird that this popped up in my home page living in amarillo and all its surreal to see other people give attention to the city
A friend of mine was a native of Amarillo. I've visited there. Very pleasant neighborhoods and good people there. Never got to visit Palo Duro Canyon, though! 😣
I have roots going back to Amarillo two generations ago in my family. Got to see the house my great great great grandparents used to live in. Pretty awesome stuff!
Its crazy how we gone be gone some day and the place will just keep growing
I'm sure Amarillo is a nice city, but one can see why people don't talk much about the scenery on I-40 through that part of Texas
You're correct sir, driving through I-40 doesn't really show you the nicest side of Amarillo. However if you need a hotel to stay in while traveling through Amarillo has plenty. We joke about how many are here and they still fill up when bad weather hits.
The, Palo Duro Canyon, in Canyon less than an hour I40 South, is definitely not to be missed if you only have a day.
Seriously. It’s awesome. ✌️
The old saying, "If you wear out a pair of shoes (boots) in Amarillo, you will never leave " is true.
Nah it's flat and full of construction, keep driving.
Oh my friend you really don't see the beauty. Yes it's wide open space. But to those who look past it they can see the life that's happening all around. I get reminded all the time that we ppl look like bigger ants running around
Great video! We love going to Amarillo often, my two daughters live and work there. ❤ thank you for sharing this. 😊
Thank you very much!
Not surprise with Amarillo being on the video, love this song
Thank you!

Who doesn't love Mr. George..
Yea and I worked on I40 in the 60s tying steel in front of a lay down machine😂 decided to go to college.
If you ever get to Nebraska, go to Alliance and visit Carhenge. It is roughly about 100 miles north of Interstate 80. And if you ever make it to Wisconsin, I suggest visit Mars Cheese Castle in my hometown of Kenosha, if you like cheese.
A buddy & I were the very 1st visitors to the Cadillacs freshly buried right on our dirt bike trail we traveled to a friends ranch in Bushland several times a week after school; they just showed up one day. Stanley Marsh was waiting for us; he waited a few minutes at a distance to watch our ape man curiosity. We thought we were in trouble when him, and another man suddenly walked up as we climbed around inside the cars. Marsh wanted to know what we thought, but I was too flabbergasted at the surreal discovery to say much. The original location was east and south on Coulter.
My hometown 💚💚
Come down the old route 66 . Come see 6 Street we still have a couple gems left. And also can't forget the Amarillo blvd. I can give anybody recommendations on any info about Amarillo
I've been to Amarillo once before. For the last 100 or so miles before Amarillo, you see billboard after billboard for the 72-ounce steak challenge. When you take an exit ramp in Amarillo on the way to a steakhouse, you're greeted with a sea of flyers advertising weight loss programs! Lose weight fast! Lose 30 pounds in 30 days!
I wondered if there was a conspiracy afoot.
The 72 ounce steak and all the fixings are 6 LARGE dinners to me. Then again, I've been avoiding all junk food and restaurant food for the past 2 years, so even a 12-ounce steak and 1/6 of the fixings might still be too much for me. It's been at least 2 years since I last consumed fast food, French fries, ice cream, candy, cake, pie, fried chicken, hash browns, or any of my other favorite fattening vices. (On the other hand, I've increased my consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and probiotic foods.)
Yes, I've been eating ultra-healthy due to the pandemic. The official recommendations just don't go far enough. I figure I need all the immune system support and anti-inflammatory support I can get. Yes, I'm eating as if the infamous Pulaski County, IL police were the Diet Police even though I'm skinny and have never had high blood cholesterol.
There's also the song .. When you leave Amarillo ( Turn Out The Lights)
Great beautiful songs,
Thank you!
I live In Dalhart which is about 80 miles northwest of Amarillo. It rarely rains here but when it does it is super beautiful country with the rolling hills and canyons.
Good one! I've driven the I-40 east and west thru Amarillo on my way to/from the D/FW area. That road could use a couple more lanes in each direction....
Good you went to the Cadillac Ranch! You should've hit the Big Texan Steak Ranch for some Top Sirloin or a Chicken-fried Steak (no, not the big 72 oz. challenge, I know not to commit gastronomic suicide): I've eaten there before and is well worth a visit.
I stayed the night at the motel there and ate at the restaurant! Best Steak meal I've ever had. Ordered something like a 20oz. It was delicious!
@@InterstateKyle You dined well. I prefer their Chicken-fried steaks, myself, but that's just me. I was there pre-COVID when they were open for breakfast, and their breakfast bar filled me up enough so that I didn't need food until I got to my relatives in the Dallas area! Stopping to use the facility at a Rest Area or at a Love's, though.....different story.
Btw, at :45 seconds, you're crossing over SB U.S. 287 down to Wichita Falls and the D/FW area. A word of warning: EVERY town between Amarillo and Wichita Falls, and several between Wichita Falls and Fort Worth, are speed traps. Estelline is the worst. Be careful, especially if driving out-of-state plates, as they are frequently targeted.
It's always exciting to get to Amarillo because I-40 between Tucumcari NM and Oklahoma City is extremely monotonous. Amarillo is there to break it up.
I hope you enjoyed the ride through my home town.
Glad to see a video about my City where I was rooted! Oh by the way construction never ends! Lol
Loved this video! My kids live in Amarillo. Some just outside of it in Bushland. I'm an hour or so away in Gray county.
Thank you for watching I appreciate the feedback!
I could not count the times I have been in or through Amarillo. I always liked Amarillo. Just wish I would have made it to the Amarillo Steak house.
I ate there the night before this video. It's definitely worth the hype! Good quality food!
@@InterstateKyle Unfortunately. I believe that I will never get to experience the Amarillo Steak House. Of all the times I was in that city you would think I would have been there once. Oh well. You will have that sometimes.
The good ol Panhandle
Good drive through Amarillo. Thanks for showing Cadillac Ranch.
Drive on. Greets from the Netherlands.
Thank you Paul!
The owner should add more cadillacs there , I know many cadillacs models came after every year, This are good videos, very instructive too, People and tourist can learn the history of Texas.🤠
Used to live in Tulia, had to go to Amarillo to shop for clothes and stuff.

@@InterstateKyle welcome
I live in Amarillo. I’m sorry you had to go through this shit hole.
I live in Amarillo and hate the construction it's taking so long, though this is older construction, this was like 6 to 7 months ago, now it's a little more open but still down to two lanes in places
Loved this video!’
WOOOO LETS GO SAN ANTONIOOOO
almost there!!!!!
awesome dude lovely songs perfect shooting. stay blessed and stay positive
Thank you very much!
A week after Kyle drove thru my wife and I drove on 40 on the way to Santa Fe. We go via Lubbock up on 27. The construction was still going on a week later.
I live here...sadly it's been going on for years, and in every direction. I bet it is a shock to passers by but we are bursting at the seams. Our population growth is crazy. And there isn't enough room for all the local traffic. A big mess!
It's been years.

I live here too.
Wasn't born here but have lived here 50+ yrs.
There is ALWAYS CONSTRUCTION yet nothing is ever fixed?? Worst potholes in the tri-state area
& this has to be an old video lol there’s much more construction now

Beautiful song.
Thank you!
Great driving music ☺️
You should stop at the Big Texan
I did when I was there. Not really what this video is about.
Enjoyed seeing your name at the Cadillac Ranch!
Thank you!
Amarillo is nothing like it use to be. Traffic is horrible. We've been overran by a bunch of Californians and northerners that think their above everyone else.
@ Laura Laura.....
So very true. I've lived here over 50 yrs and Amarillo is so not what it used to be...
Amarillo sucks
It's not where u from its where u at u Texans will putt um on check thur out time u always do
Think but there not only reason they moved out there was because they couldn't keep up with the sharks by paying there taxes and holding there grounds as far as I'm concerned the moment u move from any state you not from there any more its not w
Soo if u a real texan dont worry about how expensive cali is nor feel less and tell them cali foos thinking they the shit the real and let um know they from Texas now
if you get the chance to travel more of 40 could u film it?
That's the real deal right there! I drive through that construction 2xs a day! You've got to be careful out there. There have been 2 real bad road rage incidents lately , one on I-40. Go down 6th street old rt 66 if you get a chance! Lots of real good places to eat!
Oh look my home town!
👋🏼 hello from Amarillo! Safe travels ❤️
Thank you Eva!
I was born in Amarillo Texas.!!
You do know the south side of Amarillo is in Randall County and I-40 stays just north of the county line?
Yeah. We will actually see that county line change in the next video when we do I-27 through Amarillo.
@@InterstateKyle Yeah. Basicly north of I-40 = sucks! south of I-40 = less sucks!
@@kingforaday8725 both sides are always under construction and most of the shops/stores are empty.
@@jenniferwebb5954 If you want to shop at most main stream stores stay south of I40. Other than restaurants and some mom/pop shops not much going on shopping wise. Even the so called "revitalized" down town area is nothing but offices and expensive restaurants. And the home of the Sod hahahahaha Poodles!!!! Hahahaha. What a joke!
Love this video it is cool enjoy the music too
Thank you!
We all know that Amarillo, TX is the largest city in the Texas Panhandle, a city named after a Spanish word of yellow which is "amarillo", and a US 66 city.
per square mile it's the largest city in THE STATE OF TEXAS... all other cities are land locked by other cities and form metropolitan areas such as DFW, Austin Metro, San Antonio and outliers... Amarillo is the largest per square mile ... 60 miles in circumference I beleive. 😊
Amarillo, which hardly anyone around the the town can say properly. Lol
what dash cam do you use
There’s my car😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My home town!! 😁😁😁
this is one of the simplest pieces of interstate to navigate in the entire country. very sad that you messed it up and missed multiple exits, better luck next time.
What the hell are you talking about?
This city has alot to do for it's size. But most things are closed on Sundays.
The Bible Belt might have something to do with that.
Blue laws.
Big Texan Steakhouse
A good place to eat that's for sure!
Flat country for sure. I prefer the Maine highlands here in my hood.
My exit is Georgia St.
Caught it when it was green!!
Quick question:
I heard that people these days are hiring locals all around the world to make videos, have them loaded on their RUclips channel and get paid rather than traveling all over the world if they don’t feel like (you know what I mean). It is very easy in today’s internet world, and not illegal either, to promote one’s travel channel from their couch. You are not one of them I hope! 🥴
This video is shot going East to West on I-40, NOT West to East.
I'm home.
Home Cowboy up.
This video looks old as all that constructions done.
You don't have the copyright to have this song on your video. Remove it or we will take action for monetary recovery
How about…. No
Currently love in Amarillo. Don’t recommend it, highway is always under construction and always fails as soon as construction ends. Drugs run 24/7 through town. Lame city
