4 letters: A-L-P-A. the pilot union won't want cameras in the cockpit to capture evidence of their members performing an unsafe act, even if it's unintentional. FOQA data captures the same information as the FDR. It can provide computer simulations including flight path, surrounding terrain, flight control surface movements and cockpit instruments and controls. It is used by Flight Safety Analysts within the company to provide additional awareness to the pilot group. Most majors use this and is a part of SMS.
When your wife, kids and parents are OK watching YOU die! As an airline pilot, I know damn well this kind of video would leak out and that is the last thing I want my wife and kids seeing after I am dead in a crash like this. It is a privacy issue, pure an simple.
Again - We agree. There are COTS video BABY monitors out there for less than a hundred bucks! Each cockpit should have at least TWO such cameras.....Streaming their data live to backups like was mentioned in the other comment.
I've wondered the same thing! Hard copy on the plane.....streaming data to the ground. After all....Doesn't GE already to 'Realtime Monitoring" of all its engines performance & data?! Realtime streaming would nearly eliminate the risk of a damaged data or lost FDR or CVR. Private companies spend tens of millions on 'Cloud' type storage and infrastructure. The R&D is already done and in use. Ya think maybe the FAA can jump on that bandwagon, eh????
It's a learning tool for other pilots having this broadcasted.
Flight info for maintenance is sent via satellite all the time via automated
signals. Video of cockpit would be easy to add.
The glideslope is transmitted from the ground to a slope for landing equipment to receive. There was no glideslope on that run way, just PAPI lights.
Probably when people base their decision about which airline to fly on some criteria beyond which one costs a dollar less.

It is kind of a mindfuck to hear the NTSB guy saying, "Stay tuned... and as always, follow us on Twitter."
I wonder if the glideslope was working in the plane or on the airport. They had to be way below that and should have picked it up.

There is no glideslope on a NPA man, hence the name.
