My adult son and I moved to st paul 5 Years ago. We live in the Como/Dale area. You're right about the crime. I think it's the unaddressed poverty and drug addiction that has people so desperate. I LOVE SAINT PAUL & will never go back to Wisc if I can help it. As a state, MN is miles ahead.
It is NOT dangerous. Every city has area that are a little worse than others. I live in what would be considered a "bad" area and frankly it is very safe. Saint Paul; has it issues but over all is a terrific place to live.
I love the state, but in the recent years, it has become too costly to live on with a fixed retired income with the increase in property tax and HOA costs going through the roof. I chose to move to Wisconsin, just across the state line. I am close enough to Minnesota to enjoy a trip for some weekend fun and recreation, but budget-wise, I had to move. The cost of living with property tax and HOA fees are half of what it was in Minnesota.
3 million people are too broke and scared of moving? Seems like a poor generalization. I didnt like being close to the metro so I moved in 2020, and lots have ppl have also done so. But, there are many people that love what the Twin cities has to offer. I know that because I work with them every day.
Interesting. Care to say how long ago this was? I find the area between Dale and Lexington north of Como to be a very nice area and definitely seems to be on the upswing from my perspective. I honestly think this area is an undervalued area. Although, just like in any big city, there is the chance that you end up living near that ONE house that causes problems for the entire block. Those houses can make a neighborhood for anyone living in the proximity unpleasant.
I love living so close to the Comp Zoo. There are 2 dog parks nearby, Asian grocery stores, parks and trails galore and I LOVE MN political leanings. Go Minnesota!
Great state to raise kids, good school systems, number two state in medical, many large corporations to work at towards retirement. Clean and beautiful! Not a retirement state.
I love that you through pictures of Summit avenue mansions on there that is just such a gorgeous drive. The park system really is stellar too. Great video
My mom was born in Wisconsin, but grew up mainly in St. Paul ,she moved to Massachusetts after being married and is still there as I am ,she's almost 75 .....We have a lot of family still there in around the area ,haven't been there since I was young .....always wondered if life would of different in St. Paul instead of thousands and thousands of miles away .....I remember going to Frogtown once in some restaurant ,nice video
I was born on the east side, was raised there, moved to the suburbs of Minneapolis then moved to cottage Grove and spent a lot of time between there and Woodbury. I left Minnesota 3 years ago for very good reasons, crime, high taxes, leftist bull crap. I only go there if I have to because my family all still lives there. Leaving Minnesota was the best decision I ever made for me and my family.
I live in south Minneapolis and have worked in St. Paul schools and the schools are toxic and dysfunctional. The people in St. Paul are very unfriendly, stand-offish, and only socialize in their own cliques. I dislike St. Paul. The student behaviors are very bad and the district does not do anything to correct it. In fact, they stopped suspending students from school so improve their numbers. The administrators love to denigrate teachers and write them up for the smallest infraction. It is not a healthy environment.
Wow, what a toxic and dysfunctional comment from sonmeone who lives in south Mpls! I like south Minneapolis and am a happy and welcoming resident of St. Paul.
@@schnauzersareawesome7209 Have you ever worked in any of the St. Paul schools. I HAVE! I have worked at most of the school sites at the primary and secondary level. Why would you not ask me about it instead of starting an argument?
Minnesotans in general are standoffish and clique-y. This trait doesn’t magically go away when you travel 200’ across the river to Minneapolis. You are coming across as a disgruntled former employee of the school district.
We bought a house on Dayton's Bluff. 107 year old house...guess it's 110 now lol. The only regret we have is that it doesn't have a garage...I love St Paul. It has some issues, sure. I don't feel unsafe.
@@discoverminnesota We paid $160k in 2019. Replaced the claw tub with a walk in shower. Put in an A/C unit. Paved the driveway. Unsafe city to live in. Walk outside your house and you’re prone to getting harassed, robbed, assaulted and not to mention it’s ghetto everywhere you go. Move out if you have the money too.
That's awfully vague. What crimes should have long term sentences? Housing prisoners is expensive. Also, I don't want to live in a military state, roving through American neighborhoods. Fact is, most folks never go to the 'bad' neighborhoods. Who determines the 'thug areas'?
St Paul is pretty diverse. I live on the east side. Many Hmong families (Vietnamese refugees from the 70s) reside here and live generationally. Otherwise, a pretty even mix of black and white. I think we're the only white family on the block. All the neighbors I know are nice and helpful and we watch our neighborhood.

High property taxs, and another 1.9% fee on purchases in St. Paul. Don't expect the streets to be plowed in the winter.

Honestly, if one has no family ties to the area (twin cities), why would one move there? For the great weather and low taxes?
I think that different people look for different lifestyles, and the Twin Cities has over 3 million people that desire the lifestyle it contains.
@Glenn Leslie 😂
@@discoverminnesota No, it's because it's expensive to move, and people in this shitty state are afraid of change.

I moved here 30 years ago and I love it. By the way there was no tax on food or clothing.
So, for affordable housing, it looks like you have to buy security systems and combat attire to survive?
Lol, I wouldn't go that far. Really depends on what one calls "affordable".
No. That is just being paranoid.
Yep, great place if you have help finding the right neighborhood.
Please do downtown St. Paul. I'm thinking of a condo either there or downtown Minneapolis.
I'll add it to the list! In the meantime, send me an email at roddy@lakesmn.com and we'll start talking about what you're looking for.
Where approximately did you live in the Como neighborhood, and what didn’t you like about it?
Off Hatch Ave. It is block by block. We ended up on a block where drug deals were going on in our alley.

Cecils Deli is open everyday except Thanksgiving.

How is crime in the sol district of ceasar Chavez Blvd?
West side, Bluff park, and Harriet Island Park areas, where Cesar Chavez goes through all have higher rates of crime.
Me living in the west side laughing at this comment
