Aww thank you Jen. I've been desperately trying to find your version and can't find it in your videos 🥲. I have to say, I really do like it and especially that flat collar 🥰. It did help that the fabric was so pretty. You are always so kind 😘xxxx
Thanks Lorraine, I can see now why so many people like this blouse. It is smart but not too smart if you know what I mean! I ended up wearing it all today as I felt so comfortable in it. 😊
Thank you! Yes you are completely right, it would look good with almost everything so I must make another. I was obviously missing this type of thing in my wardrobe 😊
Thank you so much and I think a lot of people like that pattern company, I hear so much about the Sage Brush top? Honestly, I was like a sulky teenager making it 🤣, assuming I wouldn't like it and look what happened? I now want to make another!! Thanks again 😊
It’s a lovely make Carole and looks lovely on you. The Patina is so far my favourite blouse and I’ve now made three. Two long sleeve and one short sleeve for summer with material ready and waiting to make another. What I love about this blouse is it’s easy to wear (I know sounds a bit strange but I’m sure you know what I mean) due to the ease and fit. I’m generally a t-shirt and knit fabrics kind of girl but wanted something smarter but comfortable to wear. The Patina is perfect for this. I love the idea of not doing the button holes (although my machine does them really well). I’ve made the lower neck version and confess that I tend not to undo the buttons to put it on.
Hi Ann, thanks so much for your comment and wow, you must be an expert on the Patina! I know exactly what you mean about being easy to wear, I ended up wearing it all day without feel fussy at all. I would definitely make another and try the long sleeve version but leave off the button and splits like Jen did. It is certainly a good piece to have in the wardrobe! Thanks for watching 😊
Your blouse is absolutely beautiful Carole and you got the fit spot on! This was such a fun collab to watch - I love it when sewists get together out in the wild! 😂
Oh Izzy, I did stress over which size I needed and ended up between the two. Thanks so much for your advice on this one, you are the pro now when it comes to the Patina! It was such fun to meet Jen again and do a little shopping, she was a bad influence on me though and persuaded me to buy more fat quarters when I have a million already 🤣. Thanks for watching 😊
I love that blouse ! The fabric is perfect and looks lovely on you. Good luck again today I got to leave a comment ! I love your videos . Keep them coming . And don't forget the lovely pictures and music . You have a beautiful family and very talented also.💕💕
Thank you so much! I am pleased with it and I am sure I will make another before long. Don't worry I won't forget about the music and photos, I just wanted to keep this one short for people as it was a bonus one! You really are so kind with your comments. 😊 x
Yeah, you like the patina. I've made 4 versions, long sleeve, short sleeved, collarless shott sleeved and collarless and sleeveless. It's so hackable. Yours is lovely Carole.😊
Oh wow! You certainly are the expert on the Patina then and how wonderful you have hacked it in so many ways. Thank you so much for your kind comment 😊
I am so glad you like the blouse, it looks so lovely on you. However, I am now getting worried about the next challenge lol. So lovely to catch up with you and looking forward to doing it again. xx
Ha ha I really wouldn't be worried, you are a pro! You could handle anything I threw at you, now whether you would like it, that is another matter 🤣. Thanks so much for meeting today. xx
Hi Carol. Your blouse is so pretty and looks great. The Patina is one of my favorites. I've made one for Summer and I'll make a long sleeved one for Fall and Winter.
Oh thank you Lavada. I'm interested to hear you have made a couple and I was thinking of doing a long sleeve one for the Autumn/Winter as well. I can't believe how many people have said they have the pattern or made it! Hope you are well and thanks for watching 😊 x
Thank you so much Diann. I quite often put jersey sleeves in flat but never thought to try it on a woven. I mean, that is certainly not a big 4 rule is it 🤣. I can't imagine what my wicked school sewing teacher would say!! You are so kind in your comments 😘🍓
I love the look of the Patina blouse and have the pattern, but haven't made it up yet. But I will soon. Especially after seeing yours and Jen's. They are lovely.
Thank you, it certainly isn't a pattern I would have chosen and I didn't like the photo on the front of the pattern at all, it put me off a bit. After seeing Izzys and Jens though I was swayed into giving it a try by Jen! Hope yours turns out well 😊
Your Patina blouse is So beautiful! The colors are gorgeous on you! I have had the pattern for months and now that I’ve seen yours, I really want to make one. Great idea to not do the button holes, I avoid them whenever possible. 😉 Have a great week and happy sewing! 😊
Hi Lori, oh definitely give it a try. Until I actually made it I wasn't sure at all even though I had seen some really nice ones people had made. I will certainly make another and NO buttonholes again for me! 😊
Thanks so much, I wore that blouse so much this year. I did try and make a similar blouse using a Simplicity pattern but it wasn't as nice! Definitely give it a try! 😊🧵
Thanks Anne, what is it about collars?! Maybe it takes us back to our school days 🤣. This one however was so easy to do and lays so beautifully flat, it has won me over! 😊
The blouse looks beautiful on you and the colors in the fabric suit you wonderfully. I’ve watched 3 creators videos for this blouse, in a row, and now I’m thinking I need to make one. I appreciate the review you have given as it has answered several of my initial concerns about the pattern. Thank you so much for sharing! This has been very helpful for me.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I too had seen a few sewists talk about the blouse but it turned out easier to make than I imagined. The collar and facings went in beautifully and every thing matched up. I would certainly give it a go and please let me know how you get on! My only bit of warning would be, careful of the length as I am only 5'2", if you are any taller it could come up a little short unless that was the look you were going for. Good luck 😊
My Big 4 Sister! Your Patina blouse is beautiful! I love the colors and pattern of the fabric. Nicely done also. Makes me want to make one myself. We shall see.
I know Rhonda! I strayed over to the dark side 🤣. I would never have tried that pattern if I hadn't seen Izzy and Jen make it as I really didn't like the pattern cover! I will definitely make another (especially as the pattern was so expensive 🤣) probably with sleeves for Autumn. Let me know if you decide to try it 😁.
@@socarole66 I bought the pattern (and two others…🥹). I have fabric already that I can use to sew the top. I have more of a casual lifestyle than I used to and sew mostly knits, but if I can make it like you did, I think I will wear it. 😀
Thank you so much! I really loved making that blouse and wore it so much last year. You have reminded me that I must make another! Good luck if you try it. 😊🧵
I have eyed this pattern off for some time and I really like it. Looks good on you and I do like your fabric…my colours as well. I like tee shirts but I also enjoy a blouse.
Hi Diane, I will admit I wore this all day after I met Jen and didn't feel too over dressed for anything as it was such a cool, comfortable blouse. Let me know if you give it a try! Hope you are well 😊
Beautiful fabric. Beautiful blouse. I love Indie patterns and that blouse looks so good on you. Really youthful. PDFs are great - just pay for copy shop print 😂😂
Thanks so much! It was certainly a change from my normal pattern choice thanks to One Girl Creates 🤣. Interesting you say you think it's youthful as I panicked thinking it would make me look older! I have no idea where you can get copy shop print to be honest and I find that the Indie patterns are just so expensive plus as you say you then pay to print?! I only but Indies if they do a paper pattern but that's just me being old fashioned, some of them are so lovely 🤣👵🏻.
Thanks Deb, I was so nervous about that collar and how it would look on me but it lies so flat there is nothing not to like! I also worried about how low it would come down but ended up being not too bad. Wasn't Jen's lovely in the blue. Best wishes to you three! 🐕
Thank you so much, the processes weren't that tricky it was just working with different and dare I say more modern methods! I am pleased with it though and would quite happily make another 😊
Beautiful blouse. I love the material. It's a good color on you. I like the smaller seam allowance, but I like a bigger seam allowance when I do a new pattern or a use a new pattern company. I do wish the V was a little higher up. If I would bend over I'd be grabbing the the V. Have a great week.
Thanks Diane, I was worried about the depth of the collar but because the blouse isn't oversized it doesn't seem to gap luckily. I have hardly anything that is V necked as it worries me as well! As you say, when you are trying a new pattern or company for the first time, you need the reassurance of a larger seam allowance, it is just what you are used to I suppose. Thanks so much for your kind comment. 😊
Oh my - that turned out beautifully! I’m a casual blouse kind of gal and I have the pattern just haven’t made it yet. I am now excited to go for it. Both blouses are so pretty. I love wear it hits on you in the length. Great job Carole 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊
Oh if you are like me and prefer a casual blouse then definitely give this one a go, I ended up wearing it all day and felt really comfortable in it! The length was spot on for me but I am 5'2" so it could be short on anyone taller. Let me know if you make it! Thanks so much for your lovely comment 😊
Thank you so much! Ah buttonholes, they certainly can be a trial at times 🤣. Glad I am not the only one that dreads doing them. They are always at the end of the garment sewing as well aren't they, when nothing else has gone wrong! 😊
As soon as your video started, I said "wow!" because your blouse is so beautiful! Love the fabric colors, and the style looks great on you!!! 🥰 Yes, you should definitely make again and again! 😊 Like you, I don't like stand-up collars either and avoid tops and dresses that have them. I think it goes back to my working days when I would often have to iron my (purchased) shirt collars to make them look nice and crisp. Additionally, woven (purchased) button-down shirt sleeves were usually too tight across my biceps and drove me crazy throughout the day. (Now, I know how to adjust me-made sleeve pattern pieces.) However, your Friday pattern is definitely one I would try making because of the flat collar and loose sleeves. Great make and pattern review, Carole!!! Love your cheat re: the button holes. 😆
Thank you Dori! Yes I will certainly make this one again as I like the way it looks casual yet not if you know what I mean! What is it about collars?! We don't like the feeling of formality I think or maybe it takes me back to school days! Glad you approved of the button hole cheat, I did tell Jen and she said she was originally going to do the same thing 🤣
@@socarole66 Only heard of the Friday Pattern Company since watching this video. Now, I see and heard of these patterns 3 times this week, all from sewists in the UK. Assumed that the company was based in the UK or Europe - wrong! It's here in California. Go figure! Going to go to the website and check out all the patterns. Usually stick to the Big 4, but branch out to indie pattern makers when I really like a particular design I come across. Thanks so much for mentioning this company, Carole!
That is a beautiful blouse. I’ve never used their patterns, but that looks so nice, I might have to try it. I’m with you, no button holes , it’s a big waste of time. You did a fantastic job!
Big waste of time with buttonholes on a garment like this... completely true, thank you!! I hadn't used any of these patterns either so I must admit I was quite impressed. Thanks for watching 😊
It turned out perfect. I don't have that pattern but I have thought of adjusting a pattern that I DO have to look similar to the Patina. (Tilly Walnes Mimi Blouse pattern from her "Love at First Stitch" book) I've made it once for a niece. The armcye was a bit snug so I'll have to adjust that too. Another blouse on my long to do list 😊
Thank you Noemi, I must admit it was a collar shape I had never come across before and was wary, but I am very happy the way it turned out. You should make the blouse but like you say, there is always a list 🤣
Thank you Sandra. The length was a lucky one as I didn't check it at all and yes, it sits exactly where I would like it to be. Thanks for your comment 😊
Welcome to the other side haha! Your blouse is beautiful. It does look to fit you perfectly and the fabric is lovely. I have the pattern but haven't made it yet. Yours is inspiring me to get on with it. Why are so many machines such trouble when it comes to button holes I wonder? I hear people say it all the time on YT. Mine fools them up all the time. I bought a second machine because the buttonhole function didn't work on my original (Janome) machine even with a lot of effort by the repair shop to fix it. My new one (Bernette B38) just isn't consistent. All that is to say that I do the same thing whenever I can now - I prepare the placket and just sew on the buttons and no one would ever know.
The dark side!!! I did really like the fabric so that helped and yes, luckily I think I chose the right size. My machine does a buttonhole beautifully on a test piece and then something goes wrong most often on a garment so, why put myself through the stress if they will never be used! Glad you are in agreement with me, as you say, who knows and who would check! Thanks for your kind comment 😊
Your blouse is lovely! I too am very use to big 4/5 patterns as that is what I have used for many years, so the instructions work for me. When are started using some indie patterns it was almost like there was to much information, if that makes sense🤔, but I’ve gotten use to them now as well.
I know exactly what you mean about over explaining. I didn't say in the video but I did find some of the comments quite patronising .i.e " keep going, you are doing well" sort of thing 🤣. I like straightforward Big 4 terminology, none of that nonsense. Having said that, if you were a beginner and hadn't been brought up with these methods that it could really be useful! Thanks so much for your comment 😊
@@socarole66 Exactly on the beginner front. I guess because I’ve been sewing for such a long time, it’s hard to remember being a beginner. That said I was exposed to sewing very early on because my mom sewed for herself and for my sister and me.
Oh thank you, that is really kind of you to watch and take the time to comment. I am so grateful to Jen for heavily encouraging me to make it 🤣, now I have to think of something for her!! 😊
Yep Jackie, I am not a blouse wearer either but I ended up wearing this all day as it just felt more like a viscose casual top 👏🏼 I may have to make another! Thanks for your lovely comment x😊
Thank you so much. Oh yes, I hadn't thought of that seam allowance with a zipper, that could be tricky. I have sewn too long with the Big 4 I think and I love having the room for error! 😊
Really pretty on you. A good idea with the buttonholes. I’m a bit chesty and they always tend to gap on me…ill have to try your cheat next time if the size looks like it would work without opening.
Thanks! With a wide neckline like that there was no way I was going to put myself through the stress of it and I was finishing it just before I went away. Although I actually just sewed the buttons to the fabric I am sure you could sew the whole frontage to avoid gape for sure. Thanks for your comment 😊
I’m a fan of the big 4 too. It may not be trendy but they are consistent. That said, I’m currently doing a Wardrobe by me pattern - the Ava wrap - it’s not going great, 3/8” seam allowance and a strange way to add pockets (plus numerous spelling mistakes throughout 😮) …. but I’ll persevere and we’ll see. As of now, I am no longer doing PDFs either - all that paper and sellotape! 😩. Do you use a particular online printing copy that you’d recommend? Your Patina blouse is really lovely though and really suits you. Thanks for the vlog as always. 👍
Hi there, Big 4 for me and although they do trendy, it's the classic ones I tend to have! I have done a wardrobe by my pattern and I will admit I had issues too but it came out ok in the end. I do not do PDFs unless it is for a small item or baby item then I make the exception and just use my normal printer. I am so against as it doesn't save the environment at all, it just costs them less to create these garment patterns 🤣. I have seen the Big 4 trying to increase their PDF patterns which worries me a little. I'm going to grab all the paper ones I can get and keep them! Thank you so much for your lovely comment on the Patina and for watching 😊
Your blouse is beautiful. I almost always work with the big 4. I find it a pain to tape patterns all together and we don’t have printing availability here.
Oh I certainly wouldn't have made this one without the actual paper pattern! I can't abide printing and sticking millions of pieces together only to cut them all up again. We do have a printer but the ink is just so expensive now and runs out all the time. Big 4 wins hands down for me too! Thanks for watching 😊
Hi Carole, what a lovely choice of pattern and fabric. Really lovely. I 've ordered the pattern but not sure how much fabric to order. How much do I need for the short sleeve please?
Thank you very much Linda. Depending on your size the fabric required for the short version is: 45" fabric starts at XS - 2 yards ranging to 7X is 3.1 yards For 54-60" 1.7 yards for XS and 2.5 yards for 7x. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching. 😊🧵
I’m almost done with making this blouse and have just realized I didn’t sew the ends of the collar and they are open … I’m so annoyed with myself.. I don’t think my fabric will withstand a lot of unpicking as it frays. Any ideas on how to rectify this other than tucking the seam allowance’s in, pressing and tiny hand stitching? Loving your channel 😊
Oh gosh that is so annoying for you! The only way I can think of is the same as you suggested really so I'm not much help. This is the kind of thing I often do 🤣. Hope you managed to sort it and are pleased with the end result. 🧵😊
I really like it on you and love the fabric. I often cheat with the buttonholes too if I don't think I will use them. 1cm seam allowances bug me too - especially if you need to add 2 rows of gathering stitches or have fabric that frays easily. Mostly the instructions were good but the pictures especially the ones showing stitching lines were not and they didn't talk much about edge finishing. I sewed in the sleeve after sewing up the side seams - I like the end result better.
Thanks so much for your comment Margaret. It turned out to be one of my favourite blouses in the end of last year and I keep wanting to make another! Re the seam allowance, yes 1 cm is not enough for gathering stitches and I don't understand why all the different Indi companies do different amounts? I'm so used to 1.5 sometimes I just go on auto pilot and run into trouble! Sounds like you had success with the pattern as well. Thanks for watching 😊🧵
I really love your blouse, it is beautiful on you, where can I get the ready made pattern ? I live in Western Australia. The ones I have seen with pale fabric seem to show up the beautiful collar really well, whereas the darker colours not so much. My idea would be to insert some subtle piping on the edge of the collar so that it stands out a bit more with the darker fabrics, what do you think ? Thanks for the lovely chat !!
Hi there. I bought that pattern from Minerva online. I see that the Friday Pattern company do sell theirs online but not sure how expensive that would be for you. I suppose that is why people are drawn to PDFs for speed and to avoid high postage charges. Subtle piping was actually something my Mum said I should do and I would probably do that next time with a patterned fabric, thank you. Good luck if you manage to make it, it was a great blouse. 😊💖
Thank you so much. It was very brave of me to swap over to the dark side with Indie Patterns 🤣. I would love to do a collab with you. Please don't say you want to make something out of a painting like last night or even a windbreak 🤣🤪. Xx oh and please tell me Patrick will be judging !! 😍. I wish eh?!
That fabric. It truly does flatter you! And it fits beautifully. Well done you! xoxoxoxox

Your blouse is absolutely beautiful. Love the fabric.
Thank you so much Carol, I really didn't think I would like that style and I really did! 😊🪡
That blouse looks beautiful on you! I love that you got creative with the "buttons"!!! (I don't like buttons😝) Thanks for sharing!
@@socarole66 You and Jen: Great minds! 🤣
Beautiful make and such lovely fabric.
Thank you very much, the fabric was just so lovely. I am glad I got to use it on a pattern that turned out so well. 😊
Beautiful blouse and gorgeous fabric it sits perfectly on the body and length is where I like one to be 👍
Thank you Sandra. The length was a lucky one as I didn't check it at all and yes, it sits exactly where I would like it to be. Thanks for your comment 😊
Love your blouse, beautiful fabric ❤
Yay, thank you! The fabric definitely made the blouse more of a success. 😊
Beautiful blouse well made 🙏❤️💚💜💙
Thank you very much! It was fun to try something new with a pretty end result 😊
Love it, looks great on u. I’m defo going to give it a try now
Thank you Karen, please let me know how you get on! 😊
Hi Carole, love the blouse really suits you.
Thank you so much! I can't believe I ended up liking it so much in the end 🤣.
This blouse looks fantastic on you😀
Oh thank you so much Michelle! I will admit I am very happy with it 😊
Welcome to the other side haha!
The blouse is beautiful!
Thanks, you are so kind to say that. I can't believe I like it!! 😊
Gorgeous Pattina on you Carole ❤
Oh thank you, that is really kind of you to watch and take the time to comment. I am so grateful to Jen for heavily encouraging me to make it 🤣, now I have to think of something for her!! 😊
Soooo pretty!😊
Thank you so much. It has become one of my most worn blouses! 🧵😊
I'm not a blouse wear-er but this could change my mind! Looks lovely on you!
Yep Jackie, I am not a blouse wearer either but I ended up wearing this all day as it just felt more like a viscose casual top 👏🏼 I may have to make another! Thanks for your lovely comment x😊
Nice blouse. I’m fairly new to indie patterns also. The 3/8” seam allowance bothers me too, especially on a seam I need to add a zipper to.
Thank you so much. Oh yes, I hadn't thought of that seam allowance with a zipper, that could be tricky. I have sewn too long with the Big 4 I think and I love having the room for error! 😊
Lovely blouse😊
Thank you very much indeed and for taking the time to comment 😊
Your blouse is beautiful and looks great on you
Thank you very much indeed 😊
Beautiful Patina!
Yay thank you Christine! I ventured over to the dark side of Indie patterns 😊
That's a lovely blouse on you. The colour and fabric really suit you.I wonder if it could be made into a dress?
Thank you very much for your comment. Jen actually talked about making her next one into a dress, quite easily done I am sure. 😊
I love that blouse on you. The colors really suit you.
Thank you so much, that is really kind of you to say that.
Pretty blouse 🎉
Thank you so much 😊
I’m a fan of the big 4 too.
Depending on your size the fabric required for the short version is: 45" fabric starts at XS - 2 yards ranging to 7X is 3.1 yards
For 54-60" 1.7 yards for XS and 2.5 yards for 7x.
The patina is lovely so glad you like it. Was just wondering if you fancy taking part in a sewing bee based collab?xx
😍. I wish eh?!
No pictures here....?
Oh dear so sorry to hear you had trouble with the pictures.
I don't like PDFs either.
Good on you Zelda! Why do I need to pay for a pattern and yet print and stick all those pages together when I can buy one pre done 🤣.
