Two male crested firebacks (Dua sempidan biru jantan)

Dua sempidan biru jantan (Lophura ignita nobilis) tertangkap salah satu kamera jebak yang dipasang tim monitoring keragaman hayati di hutan lahan kering sekunder, Desa Penyombaan, Kecamatan Arut Utara, Kabupaten Kotawaringin Barat.
Burung endemik Kalimantan ini berperan sebagai penyebar biji berbagai jenis pohon untuk regenerasi ekosistem hutan serta pengendali hama karena juga memakan serangga. Sempidan Biru berstatus rentan (Vulnerable) berdasarkan IUCN Red List akibat semakin berkurangnya tutupan hutan yang merupakan habitat alaminya.
Restorasi ekosistem hutan terutama di hutan penyangga perlu dilakukan untuk membantu mempertahankan kelangsungan hidup Sempidan Biru.

Two male crested firebacks (Lophura ignita) were captured on the camera traps installed by our biodiversity monitoring team in a secondary dryland forest in Penyombaan village, North Arut Sub-District, Kotawaringin Barat District.
This bird species plays an important role as a seed disperser agent, and thus, contributes to forest regeneration. Insects are among its diet, which leads to enhanced pest control. It is currently vulnerable according to the IUCN Red List due to the decreasing forest cover.
Therefore, forest rehabilitation, especially in buffer zones, is urgently needed to restore habitat and save these native birds. Working with the local communities, Inobu restores 50 hectares of degraded land in Penyombaan village, which is expected to recover the forest biodiversity.
