    I bought this pattern online, but following it was a complete nightmare (front panel). As I came to look for an alternative for the front panel, I stumbled on the video tutorial. Thanks a million for the video. It's a lifesaver!

      @@damienwilson8689 It was once you got past the first row of starting the cable pattern. You really need to pay attention to stitches and counts for the first row after the band. Once you have the first row set, you are good to go and the rest is easy peasy. I have made this in several different yarns and they all work up nicely. Give it a go, keep re-doing the first cable stitch row until you get the count right, and you won't be disappointed!

    I recently started crocheting and I decided to make my boyfriend a sweater and he picked your pattern. I purchased it and the pattern + video were so helpful that even a beginner like me was able to make this beautiful cabled sweater! I just packed it away for him just in time for Christmas. I used 2 skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love in Claret/Burgundy and it turned out beautifully. Thank you so much for your wonderful pattern and video!

    Let's be careful on how we comment. There are new crocheters, and like myself I challenge myself. Being on the Spectrum and having ADHD, sometimes the comments are offensive, misleading, and discouraging. Keys humility, just because you have crocheted for years doesn't make you an expert, it makes you an advanced (what you do). Some people can't read the patterns, some can. Some can't follow the video, some can. Some can use both. Their is a community, meaning you are not alone. One thing I won't do is clout chase, but I will show respect. MJ gets that. Period. Don't throw shade, we know how to keep things lit.

    I'm currently working on this. My husband has sensitive skin so I opted to use bernat velvet and used a 3.25 mm and 3.75mm hook to obtain the correct gage since the yarn is a 5 bulky. We live in Texas so it's not so the acrylic yarn will be fine for warmth. Its working up beautifully! Thank you so much for the video!

    This is such a gorgeous sweater but I am making a small. I have 76 stitches and when I followed the tutorial on her website, I got the cables and didn't have enough to mirror the other side. Okay, so I tore it out and redid it, making sure I had 76 stitches. HDC 5 stitches and followed along with the video with better cables but for some reason I am still short on stitches! I dont understand, I am following along and making sure to put the right stitch where it shows in the video and as in the website but it comes short! Somebody! Help!

    • @mjsoffthehook
      @mjsoffthehook  4 года назад +2

      Aryika Paul no you need to work with a worsted weight yarn. Go to the blog post in description box for details. If you want to use bulky yarn you need to find a pattern that uses that weight. Thanks

    • @krystle7260
      @krystle7260 3 года назад

      Aryika Paul I'm currently working this using bernat velvet which is a 5 bulky. To get the medium size that she has on the video I had to use her guage of 13 stitches and 11 rows. If I used the same hooks as her I would get a large sized instead of medium. She used a 5mm and 4.5mm. I'm using a 3.75mm and 3.25mm. guage will depend on your tension as well. The velvet can be hard to see the stitches so being a beginner I wouldn't recommend it, but there may be some other bulky yarn you like. Just make a swatch 13 stitches and 11 rows with the larger hook and see if it makes a 4"x4" square. Adjust your hook size up or down to get the correct guage. Note that her yarn and substitutions listed on her blog are ideal for sweaters. Acrylics and cotton will not be as warm.

    This is very nice! I've been looking at patterns to make a ski sweater for my husband.
    I do have a question about the Sugar Bush Shanty yarn. Is it soft? The reason I've put off making a sweater for him is because he is allergic to wool and even says most of my synthetic yarns are "too stiff". I just know he won't wear it if he finds the yarn irritating.
    Great job. Thanks!

    • @mjsoffthehook
      @mjsoffthehook  4 года назад +4

      Sugar Bush Shanty has wool so I'd go with an alternative acrylic I've listed in the blog post. I think he'd like Brava worsted. It's only $1.99 a ball with lots of colour options. Very soft and silky. I'm thinking I might use it for a kid version.

    • @druidsongevergreens
      @druidsongevergreens 4 года назад +1

      If you use acrylic yarn that's stiff, you can soak it in a combination of cold water and hair conditioner (just a cap full). The wash and dry as usual for that acrylic yarn. Also, I don't use acrylic much but the crocheters in my groups all swear by red heart as something that starts stiff but softens after the first wash.

I'd just like to know if the band needs to have an even number of stitches or a certain measurement length ways, as my band is looking rather short at the half way point for the small size jumper. Thank you 🙂
