Man, this video literally saved my family’s life. Just last weekend, my wife noticed a burning smell coming from the dryer. I shut it off, and looked for “Maytag Bravo 300 Burning Smell”, and this video came up. You did an incredible job walking me through the process. I was shocked to see how much lint had accumulated inside that machine. I hate to think of what might have happened if it had gone unattended. You are a hero in our house. Thank you!
Glad to help. Be sure to check the vent pipe. Going from the back of the dryer to the outside. A lot of times it will be slightly stopped up and it will be causing lint to buildup in the dryer.
Thank you for such a great detailed video. It helped me so much. We had a burning smell and the clothes took forever to dry. I was shocked at how much lint was inside. No doubt it would have caught fire had I not cleaned it. I really appreciate you taking the time to make the video.
CRAZY AWESOME helpful, thank you! After spending $800 to fix the dryer vent under our raised foundation, the dryer worked for 3 minutes. The tech told me it may be the fan belt came loose. Searched and found this video. Holy cow, the amount of dust inside my dryer was staggering. Followed all the steps and my dryer is working like new. Thank you for this video!!!
Best dryer video ever. I just need to convert to propane but after seeing how easy it is to go through the dryer and clean everything, I am going to do the cleaning too.
Thank you SO much for this video!! Watching it made taking my dryer apart much easier! My dryer heated up and turned but the blower wasn't working. While cleaning out many years of lint I found the blower belt had come off. Easy fix! Went back together just as easy!
As an appliance tech myself, this is a great video for helping people out. I'm sure this will help locals use you more likely when they have a bigger issue. Great job!
I am happy to watch your video because after pulling apart the machine, I found the belt and the top of the pulling for the blower fan on the floor of the machine, so this was a big reason for the overheating and the Landry wasn't drying, thanks again.
I actually worked on a dryer just like this today, Thanks for the info about taking the blower assembly apart, and yes it alot of lint around the fan blades, all clean and back together
My Man! Saved me at least 700 Bucs. Excellent tutorial. Cant give this a higher rating! A++++ . Perfect. Thank you. Seemed like a lot to take on at first, but you changed that with your flawless step by step. Boom!!
First of all you are a life saver. I canceled our appliance repair visit and you saved me a ton of money. Second, why don't they make dryer more efficient at catching lint? You would think it would be a closed system so you don't get the buildup beneath the drum. Thanks again.
Fantastic! I took off the front as shown in the video and found two bag-fulls of lint, 2 quarters, a box cutter and 6 flossing tools. Maybe that's why it wouldn't heat up? Thanks for the great tutorial.
First of all, wanted to say you're a life saver with putting this video out. I'm a single Deaf mom and you gave me so much confidence in myself that I ended up working on cleaning the thing out. Lint light was blinking and wouldn't go so I cleaned little bit then it still wouldn't go so that's when I saw ur video. I hope that's it once I put everything back and praying it works. Thank you so much!
Got the same dryer and it literally started on fire last week, cleaned out a TON of burnt lint lol luckily all the wiring is fine as I caught it quick. Thanks for the video I'll be sure to keep up with the cleaning for sure now lol
Thank you. I’ve had this dumb dryer for years and we’ve had to fix the rollers, belts and pulleys a few times already. But I’d forgotten how. This really helped. I did. have to get new screws, they were getting stripped and all loose and lint had gone everywhere. I wish you could have seen it. It was unrecognizable! Well it’s late and just got it back together again. I’m gonna try tmro😂 . Wish me luck and good night 😴
Thank you for this video! It’s exactly what I needed, to the last screw. I had the same issues as others, the blower belt came off and the whole unit heated up. I cleaned everything anyway, working like new now.
This is the best video by far of how to disassemble the dryer, having a second person doing the filming allows you to see how the drum is removed, other videos they stop filming and then come back after it has been re-installed, then they won't go thru the whole process of re-installing, thanks for taking the time also to show the easy way of putting the belt back on, again, the best video on you tube.
Thanks I appreciate it. My wife runs the camera. I have made a few videos just filming on my own and it’s so difficult there’s just not much good footage to edit with.
Many thanks. Dryer was working but not blowing so saw your video. 15 minutes later tools in hand and about an hour later (I am not always the quickest) clothes drying and the exhaust "hose" is boucing from the hot air being emitted from my now properly working dryer :) I really appreciate how simple you made it and showed step by step disassembly and took the time to show the order to put it back together. Also pointing out things to remember and possible issues and what to do if they happen. Kudos to you. One comment and I am not sure if it the year of my dryer or perhaps a variation but when I tried to remove the fan, there were 2 screws attaching the assembly to the motor. My model Mayteg Bravos Quiet Series 300 had what looks like a flywheel that made it difficult to get to the screws. The screwdriver/socket nor a ratchet could not fit in because of the "flywheel" No worries, I improvised and was able to get a pair of liars and slowly unscrew the screws (actually only one was inaccessible with the socket wrench and handheld socket / screwdriver socket). Could only turn it about a 10th of a turn each time but eventually loosened and was able to take assembly out and clean it out as per your video. Thought I would mention it in case others had same issue/model, I did not see the piece on the dryer in your video. BUt again, thanks for the posting the video and walking us trough it. Keep up the good work. Best Ted
Our dryer was not hitting that well and we thought there might be a lint problem. This video made everything super easy to take apart for someone who isn't that handy around the house. Thank you so much and I hope you keep posting!
Thank you for this video! I followed it and made it so easy to find that my fan belt and belt bolt had come off. Explains why there was no air flow and the dryer would heat but took forever for clothes to dry.
Thank you so very much for this video, ,because of the video I got the confident to fix my dryer, your video is very detailed and easy to follow....try very much.
Thank you so much, You Explain And Make It Easy That I Can Understand. I Have A Shop And Been Looking For A Bus. To Start. I Am Going To Give It A Try .
Glad you got it fixed. Be sure to check the outside vent while the dryer is on. It should blow about as hard as a hair dryer on high. If barely anything is coming out there’s still a clog somewhere.
Nice, I always thought I had them clean just by putting my hands in there. Never knew you had to take the blower apart. Thanks for the awesome demonstration. From now on I know how to clean it the proper way.
Thank you so much for this. Really appreciate what you're doing. Please keep it coming. By the way great job on the filming, we can easily see what you are doing.
Outstanding video! I have never done this before and plan to do this after seeing your video. Do you suggest replacing the belts while doing this? Not sure how long I have had ours but may be 15 years or more. Thanks so much!
Thank you very much for this easy to follow video hadn't opened this thing up since i boughr it 13 years ago.. question : the 1st piece you take out mine is so so rusted inside its scary... Can i still use that ?
I’m not sure which piece that would be it’s been a while since I made this video. If I run across bad rest usually unless it’s rusted literally all the way through you can clean it up and paint it and it will be fine.
Excellent disassembly video, but I didn't see any break down of the heating element. Can the element be changed by removing the back panel or do you have to remove the front panel. Or does it matter which panel?
I have a washer bearing video but there are a lot of different washers that use a lot of different bearings. Whichever one you’re doing good luck because that is usually one of the hardest things to do on a washer.
I believe the legacy series has the filter that comes out the top of the machine. Those are very easy but not the same as the machines breakdown. I may be wrong about which dryer the legacy series is. Maytag likes to reuse names every once in a while so I might be thinking of the older version that has a filter that comes out the top.
I have a maytag Bravo. The "detecting" lint light goes on immedately. then the timer drops to 4 minutes and shuts off. I have cleaned the vent, lint screen, disconnected the exhaust , ive taken the dryer apart and cleaned everything, like this video shows. Is there anything elese that can be wrong like a bad sensor? thanks
I'm having this issue where the lint falls through the trap and down to the bottom. It then gets coated on the coils or wires that are visible under the drum. There's literal burned lint. I will clean it up, and in a month it's back to completely filthy and catching on fire again. Are there any recommendations to tighten the gap on the lint trap so less falls through and it actually does in fact get caught IN the trap so I can then throw it out?
If you think it’s a bad lint trap I would just replace it. It’s a fairly inexpensive part. If you’re 100% sure there is nothing clogging the line between the dryer and the outside of the house. It may be a bad drum seal. The seals last a long time but do go bad on the older machines. If you have a bad drum seal it will start building lent up quickly inside the housing of the dryer.
@Jonathan T. Brown do what he’s showing you in the video. Clean the dryer and the vent . If you do more charge for it never accept low prices for your work
What about regular maintenance? I've had a burning smell from my dryer twice now. The first time I called a tech out. This time I used this video. How can I prevent this from happening again?
My best guess of why this is happening often to you is there is Air flow restriction. Set an already done a good thorough cleaning of the inside of the dryer including around the fan housing my guess would be it’s the dryer hose leading out of the dryer into the wall or the pipe leading out of the wall to the outside has something in it or is clogged up. A quick way to check is to feel how hard the dryer normally blows without an exhaust pipe on it. Then put the exhaust pipe back on and walk outside and see if it’s blowing about the same. If it’s far west there will be a air restriction somewhere in between. Good luck.
Hi. Great step by step video. I have a similar dryer. Gas steam model. I just cleaned out after I smelled burning 😬. I found your video after the fact & used it to try & troubleshoot after I put it back together & it wouldn't start. I hear a buzzing when I try to start but it doesn't fire up & the drum doesn't rotate? It seems that everything is connected properly & belts are on as they should be. Any clues as to what I should look for? Thank you in advance!
I don't work on gas but the electric one that I demonstrate with I had a similar issue. I took the belt off and put it back on and it fixed itself. I believe this was the cut off switch that's connected to the idler pulley. It was probably stuck or had lent in it.
@@WasherDryerMoney so it sort of works. I'M SOOO CLOSE! I can start the dryer with the front off. It makes probably a starting buzzing sound, then nothing until I give the drum a little push, then it fires up like normal. None of the wheels or belts or pulleys look damaged? I removed & greased them twice. Do I need to change them, or grease something else? I tried this several times with the same results. Thanks again for your help!
@@slickredchick usually a buzzing sound and the motor struggling to start means the motor is going bad. At least that's what happens with Whirlpool dryers. I don't work on many maytags so I have not seen a bad motor but I assume it's the same symptoms.
Very helpful, but missing a step - removing the bell shaped piece in front of the motor. Also, it would be helpful to see how to attach the drum belt without removing the back.
This type of Maytag is way easier to put the belt on if there is a access panel on the back. Not all dryer have this but several of this type of Maytag do have it and it make it a lot easier. I’m not sure what bell shaped piece you’re referring to. It’s been a while since I’ve done this video or worked on this type of dryer. But if I do a new video about it I’ll be sure to add that step.
@@WasherDryerMoney Thanks so much for responding - it's a silver ~ 4" diameter dish-shaped metal device that sits in front of the fan belt on the motor, attached by the bolt. I don't know if your model has it as it wasn't there when you removed the drum in the video. In any event, this video really helped - our dryer is working much better now!
Yeah I'm moving soon but I wanted to experiment with different color backgrounds before I paint my new shop filming area. It's my old sheets LOL. My wife does most of the filming. She's getting much better at it.
I have a major problem. When I reattach the belt at the end of the video the belt will NOT stay on. It pops off right away after one rotation. What am I doing wrong?
Great video except you don’t even mention the heating elements. Lint built up inside the housing is what’s gonna cause a fire. Mine was full of lint that was singed black.
2nd big mistake NEVER put lithium grease on rollers, that's just creating a problem down the road, that grease is now going to catch lint & bind up Rollers bearings are oil impregnated to release over time.If anything spray wd 40 on the shafts and use plumbers cloth lightly to clean .roll the plumbers cloth and clean inside of roller bearing use a rag or paper towel to clean all residue and excess wd 40 off.Bedt thing to do is replace the roller if the shaft is in good condition.
So in conclusion, the lint filter screen is crap…. Because thats a newer drier with a bunch of smart diag circuitry up in.. my dryer was born in 95 and i opened it up to change the teflon sliders that the drum slides on and only pulled out a few handfhulls of lint.. blower was fine.. about 7 years ago i replaced the old heating coil with a new one from a brand new model and it dries faster and uses half as much electric than it used to.. but my sister bought one of these dryers and it stopped drying. Running test mode it steams the inside and never cuts off so clothes are wet when done….
Folks, be careful with these home video repairs. NEVER EVER GREASE YOUR ROLLERS. Especially with white lithium grease. I am a 15 year appliance tech and rollers should never be greased or oiled.

Same thing happened to mine. This is the second time.
Glad to help. Be sure to check the vent pipe. Going from the back of the dryer to the outside. A lot of times it will be slightly stopped up and it will be causing lint to buildup in the dryer.

Absolutely the BEST video I have seen about fixing a dryer! Love that you explained about the tools and also showed the reassembly!😀😀😀
Thanks
Wow. What a fantastic video you made. I followed step by step. Im proof that a weakling lady can do it too. Thank you so much!

@@slickredchick usually a buzzing sound and the motor struggling to start means the motor is going bad. At least that's what happens with Whirlpool dryers. I don't work on many maytags so I have not seen a bad motor but I assume it's the same symptoms.
My smaller belt that connects to the lint motor doesn't seem to spin as freely as yours does. Could that be why my dryer keeps timing out?
It has been a while since I had that dryer to look at. It should definitely be spinning easily.

A BACKDROP! Moving up in the world, hunh?
But the more important question is, who is filming?
Yeah I'm moving soon but I wanted to experiment with different color backgrounds before I paint my new shop filming area. It's my old sheets LOL.
My wife does most of the filming. She's getting much better at it.
I have a major problem. When I reattach the belt at the end of the video the belt will NOT stay on. It pops off right away after one rotation. What am I doing wrong?
I did this all and cleaned out all the lint, and still 30 seconds into a “very low” heat tumble dry, I smell burning 😔 is my dryer a lost cause?
Doing it from the back can suck if the belt snaps. Then ya gatta take the front all back apart
Truth
The green ground wire i have 2 of them i saw where the one goes in front where does the other green ground wire go
Someone else commented they had two green wires. The one I have does not have that. I’m not sure.
Actually i finally saw another video n the other green ground gets attached to the bottom of dryer almost right below the other ground wire
Dude I didn't know that harbor freight screw driver came out and flipped like that 😂😂😂
Lol
neither did I, now, I know to check out my tools for this
I removed all the screws but it not come out
Great video except you don’t even mention the heating elements. Lint built up inside the housing is what’s gonna cause a fire. Mine was full of lint that was singed black.
2nd big mistake NEVER put lithium grease on rollers, that's just creating a problem down the road, that grease is now going to catch lint & bind up Rollers bearings are oil impregnated to release over time.If anything spray wd 40 on the shafts and use plumbers cloth lightly to clean .roll the plumbers cloth and clean inside of roller bearing use a rag or paper towel to clean all residue and excess wd 40 off.Bedt thing to do is replace the roller if the shaft is in good condition.
you forgot to put the affiliate link in the description, lmao
Thanks I will definitely get that taken care of.
@@WasherDryerMoney you didn't get that taken care of
So in conclusion, the lint filter screen is crap….
It's not a 5 in one,they don't make one,it's a six & 1 not to be confused with a 4 in 1.
Folks, be careful with these home video repairs. NEVER EVER GREASE YOUR ROLLERS. Especially with white lithium grease. I am a 15 year appliance tech and rollers should never be greased or oiled.
That design is overly complicated to clean compared to some other Maytags
Very true
Maytag. Medb765fw0
I’m not sure if that’s the number I don’t have that machine around anymore.
Thanks for the video. Great job.
