- We tie a lot of flies designed to be used with free swinging hooks, that means a body or no body without the junction tubing attached. Some flies with bodies can have a soft junction tubing added fixed to the fly but we think they fish better overall with free swinging hooks.
In this video we show you how to rig free swinging hooks on all kinds of flies with different sizes of treble, double and singles by using small pieces of liner or outer tubing to cover the leader knot and hook eye for the fly to the slide down to and both fish independently. We also show you how to do this with a perfection loop in the style of an intruder but without the worry of your wire wearing out or breaking, you can keep using your flies.

Thank you for the video! I was wondering if it is necessary to use a special cone for such installation? Is it possible to connect this short tube with a hook simply to the tube on which the fly is tied?
Nice one guys, thanks for sharing! Would you see any problems adding a weighted cone to the junction/ hook tube? I had a thought that it could be an easy way of turning an unweighted fly into a weighted one? Also changing the size of the weight for different scenarios? 🤷♂️

Absolutely, there are a number of ways you could do that, the most used versions now would be a cone head with plastic tubing melted down front and back so you can slide it on in front of the fly, adding the weight at the head is probably the best method, but a great way of adding series weight to the back of a no body Scandi fly would be the same thing with tungsten beads and ass as many as you want to build a body behind the fly before the junction tubing. I imagine US tubes would work well like this too, just makes it easier to switch up what you are using quickly for the situation you are fishing in.
