    Mercury can be produced under two main methods. These are either thermally or via a wet-chem process. The ore is roasted in the air in the thermal process, converting mercury sulfide into sulfur dioxide and mercury metal. This process also produces toxic mercury vapor. Another thermal method is to reduce the mercury sulfide with another material this can be material such as iron, lime, zinc, etc. In both, the sulfur reacts with other material to produce that material sulfide and liberate the mercury metal. For the wet-chem process, the sulfide ore is dissolved and then reduced out of the solution. I will combine the wet-chem process and the old standard thermal style in today’s video.

    So how did the ancient people know this an how were they able to extract the mercury from cinnabar? Vast pools of mercury were found under Teotihican in Mexico and under a temple pyramid in China! Plus you did all that and only got a few drops, they had thousands of gallons of this stuff!

      Because the emperor got slaves to mine as much cinnabar as possible, then burn the cinnabar to create liquid mercury. I am pretty sure tons and tons of cinnabar was mined. It is actually simple how HgS + O2 -> Hg + SO2, not that complicated

    can you help me? i tried to extract gold from ore, i make quartz jelly from naoh with some calcium as binder, give them h2so4 thus produces silicic acid and i dried it.
    finally i put aqua regia i simmer them till i supposed traces of hno3 gone, but suddenly i saw silvery white bubble at top of yellowish chloride complex i assumed when almost boiling, it was silvery white speck when i took out
    can it possibilty of mercury or just other precious metal? i dont want to mess with mercury whatsoever i chose ore carefully that indicated contain any minimum of mercury
    thank you best regards

    • @Chris47368
      @Chris47368 16 дней назад

      I doubt it would have been mercury, mercury is 13x more dense than water so it would have sunk.
      Also - im pretty sure the aqua regia would have dissolved the mercury as i know it is definitely attacked by nitric acid and is likely attacked by hydrochloric acid too.
      I suspect you might have been seeing some trace amounts of platinum group metals!

      I had it in the ore form which came lightly pulverized.

    • @AdvancedTinkering
      @AdvancedTinkering Год назад +1

      To be fair, people saying that there is only one metal in a liquid state at room temperature are also correct. I would argue it is the more correct statement. That's because "standard conditions" are defined by NIST or IUPAC. And none of those are sufficient for cesium to be a liquid.
