- I've been asked to say a few words to the truckers in Ottawa. I've given that some careful consideration. You protesters have accomplished an awful lot already. The conservative leadership has crumbled. Erin O'Toole has been replaced by someone who is giving a fair bit of voice to your concerns.
All the people you represent have a voice in the house of commons. You have four provinces that have moved quite precipitously in the direction that the protest was hoping for. They are starting to lift mask mandates on something approximating as reasonable a timeline as might be expected under the circumstances. You're now faced with a difficult choice: what are your criteria for satisfaction.
You need to determine that so that you can negotiate with the necessary people. You're also faced with another danger at the moment, now that which is that the political process bent in the direction that you've insisted upon - rightly, in my estimation. This, more and more of you who are most reasonable are going to pack up and leave, or decide that this is done sometime over the next week or so (or a couple of weeks: that's obviously up to you) --, but there'll be a remnant that's much more committed in some sense to more extreme goals. That's going to be something very difficult to manage.
I'd like to commend all of you for your diligence and work -- on accomplishing what you have accomplished under trying conditions -- and also for keeping your heads in a way that's been a model for the entire world. You've been able to remain peaceful. You haven't taken the bait. You haven't responded with violence to quite remarkable denigration and provocation. That's a sign of tremendous discipline and care. It's going to get more difficult to maintain as this goes along. So I hope that you're all able to allow a sufficient victory to be sufficient, to move forward without greed -- to be grateful for the effect that you've already had, and the support you've received, to move forward to a normative peace and the re-establishment of our country's economy and our psychological and social wellbeing. That's pretty much all I have to say at this point. Thank you.

The fear is that if we ( Canadians ) step back or stand down they'll just undo everything that has been accomplished.
Then we rise again and again and again…with love and peace.
Then you protest again, but take the victory. The ball is now in trudous court. If he attempts drastic measures afterwards, he looks even worse. The goal is to make yourself seem reasonable, as you have done, and him seem childish

The same people who have been scolding all of us about masks, social distancing, and mandates were all gathered together last night at the Super Bowl, most maskless. It’s reminiscent of a chapter right out of the Hunger Games.

I'm heartened as a Brit, living in a shambolic political state of corruption and shame, to see such commitment can still exist. It gives hope to all of us who fear for future stability
Same kind of protest was done in India by the farmers against the draconian farm laws, this is happening all across the world, people going against their governments to fight for their freedom and a common enemy i.e. the elite Government

Honestly, we all need to stand strong even in the "face of" getting what we want. Do not forget "2 weeks to flatten the curve" - none of us should back down until all mandates are gone, and there is legislation to stop this happening to us ever again.
ok, but lets be reasonable. SOMETHING needs to be done in the face of the virus, right? Some measures taken? I think there needs to be good and careful balance.

The similar has happened in India in the state of Tamil Nadu. Peta and the then Government tried to ban a sport that represents the Tamil culture, without the influence of any political party all the students later every one came together to protest in a peaceful way. Police threatened and beat them up badly, and with media trying to avoid what's going on everyone stood together regardless of their religion, it gave a sense of unity that I have never experienced before, a sense of love for my people and was able to empathize with my people like never before. It is one of the unforgettable memory in my life. Those who support this convoy cherish this moment these are rare moments in history.

I've been saying for two weeks- Those Canadian truck drivers are showing us how it's done. They won't be broken, and they won't be divided. It is truly inspirational to watch. I'm hoping we down here in the States are taking notes for use in the battles yet to come.

To a large extent I think the Windsor blockade has been most effective, because it was the one which they’ve acted the most upon, and had a direct financial impact. The Ottawa protest gives some nice clips for social media to change public sentiment, but the government needs to know that the citizens can directly affect them

JT has just recently given himself war powers to shut down the truckers protest.
He already has said that their views (which is merely freedom) are "unacceptable" So the guy who hates your freedom is about to take military action upon the truckers. Things are about to get bad.

I am originally from Latvia but been living in Scotland for last 6 years. It's actually scary how easily people are willing to give up their freedoms and lable other people who have different point of view as Nazis and danger to society.
History is literally starting to repeat itself, people are being forcefully shut down from protesting and expressing their opinion because it doesn't match the narrative. I would think this kind of oppression and tyranny belongs to the past, when Germany was ruled by Nazis and Latvia was under Communist rule... But it is 2022... I suppose people have enjoyed freedom for too long in West?

Your right, but these protest will not achieve that. It is a small victory. For the larger fight we need at least a general strike. And at this point there are not nearly enough people willing.
Be careful to be more precise with your words. When you say 'free', a more moderate person may think, 'free from covid mandates', whereas a more extremist's view might be ' free from authority', and explode the whole movement out of context. that's what JP means by a sufficient victory. Know when your criterias are met, so it doesn't evolve into unnecessary and destructive chaos.

Never again is impossible. That's the thing about freedom is it's always one push away from being removed. Any rule you set is only as good as societies will to enforce it. That will needs to be renewed every single generation.
I'm German. When people of Communist/Soviet Eastern Germany protested and ultimately brought down the Berlin Wall, not a single shot was fired and there was no police violence. It was the most marvelous thing. If people under 40 years of oppression can keep their cool, so can the Truckers.

When you say stay the course. Do you mean truckers should continue to wreck local economies? I agree with JP, they have a victory, claim it and go home. Some protesters are getting greedy with their demands as stated in the video and are going to forever tarnish this event. Some are asking for outrageous policy changes that are laughable. They had really should of stuck to their industry. Thatb would be like doctors refusing to work until they get proper benefits then refusing to work until climate change is solved. I hope they think this through

Staying peaceful only works for so long. It only works if you have reasonable people. They are dealing with evil. You cannot negotiate with evil. You cannot peacefully put them in their place. That's just the way it is. The peace that we've enjoyed for years cost plenty of blood.
It is nice that some provinces have dropped some restrictions but this was started by the truckers over federal concerns. The movement morphed into an EVERYONE movement. How can we walk away and leave truckers to take the loss when they were the main reason provinces caved in. If the provincial restrictions remained and truckers had won and then walked away leaving the rest of the people without hope we would not like being abandoned. We are all for one and one for all.
The end of the battle does not mean the end of the war. Peterson is not saying quit. He's saying that you don't just keep fighting the same battle forever. You evaluate your progress and move on to the next mission, which calls for changing your approach.

Never said this in my life I always hated my job and only did it because I dropped outta college and truck driving was the easiest way to make good money quickly. But I’m proud to be a truck driver now. These guys have brought some meaning to my life now. I always just felt like a cog in a machine and have been very depressed since most of my friends have corporate jobs and make lots of money not doing much. I drive 10 hours a day 6 days a week. And I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to come home every night. Tough job man it’s fun for the first year or two but going on 7 years now it gets old real quick.

@@weignerleigner3037 I'm a welder so I listen to a lot of audiobooks while working, I recommend the outlander series since they're so long. There's like 10 books and they're all about 43+ hours each so it'll keep you busy for awhile. The series is a little girly but it's pretty good if you like historical fiction.

We play nice we argue nice we protest respectfully. But we are stubborn when we find a common goal and are not swayed easily when we see the mission needs to be taken on. These protest show it that if you take my bread I will take it back, and you will not give it back, I'll take it. And I will bring family and friends to help get it back. And as citizens with a common goal we all become friends and are strong the the governing bodies that is why they attempt to dismantle and discredit the moment going on right now

It is difficult to express the respect and admiration I have for the Canadian truckers. The cause couldn't be more worthy and they couldn't have gone about it any better. Dignified, peaceful and resilient all the way through. They have given the government tyrants and the corrupt scum in the media no ammunition at all to take them down. I'm a HGV driver in England and they have made me feel a great deal of pride, as I'm sure is the case for truckers all around the world. If any of the Canadian truckers read this, thank you, and God bless you all - the sane world is with you.

If the protests stop now, the regime will not take their demands seriously. It's only a partial victory. It's far from over. Now that the Trudeau Regime has declared martial law, the stakes are even higher and a sustained protest has only become more necessary and urgent. Rather than going home with only the hope of a promise for a half a loaf, the truckers and other citizens should come to Ottawa in ever greater numbers and stand strong.
I totally agree. Democracy itself is at stake, that's crystal clear. now. If it was just about covid Trudeau would have shifted his target to people at risk of covid hospitalizations and death - and 16,000 healthy truckers living in isolation are NOT at high risk of hospitalization and death.

But the authorities had to back down and bring unvaccinated correctional officers back as the prisoners were threatening to riot because they were so short staffed prisoners were hardly ever let out their cells. We're not naive as to think this is unchangeable, but hold out if you can. The vaccines are not what they say they are. There is massive scale deceit going on.

I love JP, he's giving good advice, but I think if Truckers back down now, all ground that has been gained will be quickly lost, and more. They will label all involved as dissidents and keep pounding that narrative. I think it's better to hold the line, the consequences will be hard for sure, but it's a personal choice. I disagree, I think backing down now will show to the people that oppose them that the truckers are reasonable people. Also I think being willing to bend is what is being asked of the government, and the truckers should be willing to bend to let the government show they are earnest, if not it's not like you couldn't start it backup again; but now you've shown the truckers to be reasonable people and the government was not and have more support the second time.

My concerns include what is a sufficient level to attain before there is a real victory. It was announced earlier that the Prime Minister is seeking a state of emergency. With such a person as a leader, an accommodation seems unlikely.
Trudeau and the general Canadian media have striven to paint anyone involved as mischaracterizations ranging from Nazi, to racist, to transphobe, rather than address the issues that have formed the protest. Addressing the issue does not automatically guarantee that the protesters' every whim will be fulfilled, but ignoring the issue in its entirity and instead trying to label all involved with non-true statements shows the dishonesty of those who have taken hold of our land and our lives.

They still hold a large amount of power, so they're not going to do half of these things in your little manifesto until they are forced to at gunpoint. Right now, the guns are pointed at the protesters and threats have been made. Jordan doesn't want to see a massacre take place, which usually happens when protesters get agitated and state forces become tense (see the Boston Massacre, Bloody Sunday, Lena Massacre, Tiananmen Square). Those in power aren't going to willingly step into a jail cell or sell out those who have made them wealthy while they still hold most of the cards.

The Ukrainian Euromaidan protests in 2013 were captured on cell phones but government snipers shot protesters just the same. Same with the Arab Spring uprisings in Iran. A woman was shot in the chest by pro government militia on camera and that didn't change anything. If Canada wanted to crack down, they'd just do it.

They could’ve easily sent in the National Guard Canada immediately to disperse them all while giving them nothing.
