Hi everyone ^.^ I made this to somehow summarize the quick steps one can take when romancing Astarion at the beginning of the game. I often write some tips, especially under the short videos on this channel, so now I just wanted to show some of them in practice. For more info, please read the description^^ Pls don't forget this video is only about the very beginning of the game^^ If anyone needs further guides like this (from Zorru's place ^^), let me know in the comments and of course, feel free to ask if you have any questions^^ I hope someone will find it useful! ^.^
I'm still in Act 1 of my Astarion romance playthrough, but based on how many people have complained about struggling to romance him, especially as a good character, I have to say I'm surprised. I didn't swing it as fast as you did here, but I still have quite a bit to do before moving on, and I already have "very good" approval with him and I got his romance scene VERY easily. I haven't been mean either... other than letting him barge in on the couple in the Blighted Village, lol. Apart from that, I've mostly been a goody two shoes, but any disapprovals I've gotten from being nice with him in the party have mostly been negligible. Ultimately I feel like the key to romancing Astarion in Act 1 is just... rest often, for one. Humor him when he makes off-the-wall comments or suggestions. Accept his vampirism and let him bite you. And otherwise... be kind to him. Make him feel safe and express that you feel safe with him. He'll warm up to you super fast.
Actually i romanced Astarion on lawful good character. Being an ass and have 100% approval in middle of act 1 kinda pointless. Anyway, its look like most of approval we get from trusting him and being nice with him. Not from evil acting.
For those RPing as good-doers, some more methods to get his approval up early without doing anything evil or mean: If you climb up the rocky cliffs just a bit down the road and opposite from the entrace to the Grove you'll find a Harper lookout point. If you go there, Raphael usually spawns there to talk to the player for the first time (in my experience). You can talk to Astarion about Raph and tell him, "we're not his playthings" for approval. In addition to the point from Aaron, you can also get another point from telling Auntie Ethel about the parasite, either in the grove or at her house later on. Finally, this is a bit further down the map but if you go the bugbear shack with him make sure you let HIM open the door, you get a totaly of +5 if you let him do it instead of just +1. Note that having Shadowheart in the party usually causes her to replace his line asking to open it himself so I suggest not having her in the party at the time. If you want you can also recruit Karlach early and get approval for defending her against Wyll.
I don't know why I checked this video out, since I never had any problems with romancing Astarion, but it was cool to see, how you do it! Most of the time, I play someone who likes to help others, and I collect a bunch of -1 at the beginning, until he is on low approval, but no matter. I keep being nice to him and help him with his quest, and in the end I always have the high approval confession scene and exeptional approval by Act II. Poor Vampy just needs some love ❤🩹 and a little bit fun, so as an excuse for pissing him of at first, I let Abdirak hit real hard, so he can enjoy 😂😂😂
Thanks for checking it out ^.^ There are many tricks to avoid all his little -1 while 'staying good', I might make some summaries for this in the future too ^^
@@sinviel I really like your Videos and will check it out!!! But in fact I have no problem with Astarions dissaproves, he can dissaprove as much as he wants, I do the things that are fitting for my tavs 😅 sometimes I even find it funny when he is a little annoyed ... "you staring at me again, what do you want?" Is my favorite 😂😂😂
I am doing a good play through .. I even let the monster hunter live. And I find it easier to romance him doing good acts. The first thing I did after the saving the grove was grab the mace then kill the orthon and he was supper happy. I am not sure what people do when they agro him. I am just nice to him all the time. Let him bit me ect. lol! Great video.
Wow! Very high! And you were hardly a baddie, next run I’ll try and do that, I’ve started to leave Astarion at camp to protect the points when I’m being a goodie
I hope that helps^^ Actually, depending on the gameplay, you don't need to leave him even if you play 'good'. There are also many trick options, like the one with Zevlor: you gain +2 and help the Tieflings, so no harm^^ The only significant one you can't avoid will be -5 from helping Isobel, but even here, I'm taking him with me xD
You don't have to leave him in camp tho! I romanced him on a good guy Tav run, and got to a perfect 100 points with him by the epilogue party while doing all sorts of good stuff he disapproves of. Just remember that Astarion usually disapproves for only -1 point, while his approvals gain a lot more then that (+5 or more, depending on the action). So you would always be able to rank up his approval high enough to secure a romance with him, before you would be able to tank it all down with disapprovals. Keep in mind that his disapprovals is just him rolling his eyes on you being a good guy and helping everyone around. Astarion doesn't *actually* hate you doing good deeds, he is simply annoyed by your supposed naivety doing them (and not receiving any of that help himself while he was still captive by Cazador). Moreover, by act 2 he does start to approve of you doing good deeds (with the rest of the companions), and disapproves of fully evil actions you can take. So no need to be afraid of his disapprovals, just let him groan out at you for a little bit before you teach him the value of a good deed. P.S I said I got to 100 points with him by the epilogue party, but in fact it was mid act 2, right before meeting Araj! And there wasn't any big secret to it too- I just followed all the big approval points with him through act 1+2, progressed his personal quests and stayed away from romance break-up points like wildfire. The reason I mentioned the epilogue party in specific is because the bigger challenge for me was to stay at 100 approval with him throughout the game, and not let them drop too far below 90. There are a lot of late game disapprovals that can sneak up on you by surprise! Tho again, they are all just -1 points, not that hard of a hit in late game, just like early game.
bloody heck LOL, i'll be needing this in my next play ahahhahaha Edit: so i followed every step you show here but the thing is... i played durge so... when it comes to the squirrel, my durge just blatantly kicked and killed it i was flabbergasted. thus I was like in 39 approval and he did not invite my durge.... soooo to zoru i go just to make it 41. And after that oh yess it triggered the woo proposal
This game never fails to amaze me. I was doing everything right following your every directions but after recruiting Lae'Zel I went back to the beach and Shadowheart was nowhere to be found... I just kept going thinking I could recruit her later and everything went in very different directions from there 😅 found a new dungeon, saved Gale, somehow ended up killing Pandirna and a guard and the dialogue options where nowhere near close to yours haha Could you help me find Shadowheart? Where can I find her to recruit her now that she's not at the beach anymore?
Maybe you took a long rest immediately after the crash?^^ she'll be there only on the first day. Anyway, she is in the Grove afterwards^^ Next to the place where Wyll is. I recruited her just for a small extra +1 during the first camp dialogue, but you can exchange it for another one^^ also recruiting her isn't important, also for the gameplay generally because she'll always appear sooner or later automatically even if you haven't recruited her^^
@sinviel I don't recall resting but maybe I did, that explains a lot. And thanks! I wanted to recruit Shadowheart simply cause she's very useful and I like her haha

You can get his approval up easily even playing a 100% good character.

I'm new at the game I just bought the game for Astarion and I don't understand anything I just follow your video thanks really haha ❤
You're welcome and I hope that helps ^^ be aware that there are still some steps afterwards to ensure the romance is 'on' ^^

I want these clothes! How do you obtain them? I assume through exploration?
What mod are you using for the approvals?
is it just me? i cant really find shadowheart 😢
What do you mean exactly, you can't find her?^^
