I am a white 59 YO, who works roadside breakdown and recovery. Exactly the type Green Flag dislikes.
Mechanic/diagnostic tech (IQ 136, fit, slim, with no health issues) with 12 years experience working nights at the roadside.
I work for breakdown clubs (Including Green Flag) as well as Police and Highways around the Northwest UK. Our cities up here, are as diverse as anywhere else.
I have yet to meet one woman, of any colour, doing the job. (Would be nice to see more)
The job is incredibly demanding.
They simply will not tolerate 60 -70 hour weeks of 12 hour shifts that can extend up to 15 - 16 hours, in all weathers, at any time.
They will not slither on their backs into a ditch filled with oil and ditchwater to attach chains onto a crashed car.
They are often unwilling to handle oily winch cables, or tolerate the untold nicks and scratches and bruises that seem to appear daily.
And here`s the kicker.
Green flag don`t actually employ any roadside techs. They farm all their work out to independent contractors.
SOME of these contractors are shoestring operations, employing those who would struggle to find work elsewhere, at very low pay, in under equipped/visually unappealing vehicles. I`m sure you know the type.
These are the men that this advertising is picking on.
Green Flag supply livery to these contractors, who get a nice kickback for the advertising. So will probably have a few Green Flag liveried vehicles on their fleet.
Green Flag are effectively a clearing house, with a management structure. A management structure that has embraced DEI.
Good news though. Green flag are a spent force. They got quite big at the turn of the millenium. But now, It`s rare that I do a Green Flag job, and I see very few Green Flag liveried vehicles on the road.

A management structure is equivalent to leeches. They're worthless middlemen, causing the cost of services to go up. This is where wealthy people create a brand and company in order to insert themselves and sponge off the backs of hard-working people.

My wife once interviewed candidates for a retail job. One was a black girl. She didn't get the job so she made a complaint, meaning my wife had to go in front of a tribunal, the whole experience was unpleasant and stressful for her. The tribunal dismissed the complaint despite there being two blacks on the panel. My wife already had good black employees, which swung the case for her.

Engine undertrays are so commonplace today that one of the only reasons one might be there, is to tamper with the exhaust system.
Of course, the engine would still start, however the owner might get a nasty shock come the MOT.
There are 3 adverts running at the moment for household cleaning, products, soap powder, floor cleaning and fairy liquid all fronted by black men. The government cannot force advertisers to do this. The "nudge unit" ( officially the behavioural unit) has convinced companies and advertising agencies to do this. Probably telling them that positive examples of black people will end racism. The labour government will increase this, we are in for very strange times

I have to thank Gillette for that advert. Since then I've been using double edge razors. My wife bought me a box of 100 Derby Extra blades just over a year ago for a fiver on Amazon. I'm not even a quarter of the way through it yet.

@@boostar155 When I first started using one I'd look like Freddy Krueger after every shave. Didn't take long to adjust my shaving technique and now it's just the occasional nick. I'd never go back to cartridge razors now. The last time I saw some Gillette Fusion blades they were 16 for 30 quid.

30 years ago my car was covered by Green Flag breakdown. On a trip to Glasgow (165 miles away) the windscreen wipers stopped working almost completely (the single wipe would work, meaning that I had to keep the screen clear by flicking the stalk every few seconds). Fortunately the rain stopped & we made it safely to our Glasgow hotel. After checking-in, I called GF who arrived a couple of hours later. Perhaps I was unlucky not to get a black woman mechanic because the white male moron told me that because it wasn't actually raining at that moment he couldn't fix it. On returning home, I cancelled my GF membership & haven't considered re-joining since.
As my car was still under the manufacturer's warranty, I took it to my local dealership who told me that the faulty relay wasn't covered under the warranty & that I would have to pay for the part & the labour. I told them where to stick it & got a local auto electrician to sort it for less than the cost of the part from the dealer. I sold the car shortly after & never returned to the brand.

Most warranty deals are shite, whatever they're in. Cars, computers, washing machines etc. The salespeople know it too. The biggest con is British Gas boiler cover. It's like £20 a month and all you get is one (very basic) service a year. The same service an independant engineer would charge about 50 quid for. Also if you call British Gas out its £80 even if you have their cover. Absolute rip-off.
£50?, I once asked over the phone for a price to check my gas boiler, £200 starting price to visit, he lived half a mile away!
I am fed up of seeing a disproportionate number of non-white people in advertisements, it might reflect the big cities but not the country as a whole.
However it does highlight how far we have gone towards replacement.

There are too many people in UK who despise anyone who works with their hands or e.g. in a factory, without the products of which their lifestyles would be impossible.

In reality I’ve been the victim of crime over a dozen times in London over a 22 year span. Only once was it a fellow white man.
If my vehicle breaks down I couldn’t care who came out to fix the problem, indeed last year I had a tattoo clad lady sort my electrical system out at 4am, marvellous service. I worked for a major manufacturing company in maintenance, which had well over three hundred members. In thirty years we had maybe half a dozen females come and go. A few years ago they started a major push to get more women maintenance staff, even going so far as to give female applicants specific training in order to pass the entrance skills test for apprenticeships, which the lads were not given. Needless to say there’s still next to no females there. 😂

Its standard advertising requirements now. Any "handyman", worker type jobs like crane operator, breakdown mechanic, welder, must now be played by a woman, and all cleaning ads are now men. Advertising is the first line of social engineering and always has been. It presents to people what the ideal is and conditions them into wanting it
The abrahadabra technique has been taken a bit too far. (Saying something don't make it true.)
Have been driving for getting on for 50 years, often elderly cars which needed care and attention from various garages, and a few times have had to call rescue services. I have NEVER even seen a female car repair person. Women working in admin, yes, fixing cars no.
Couldn't help but laugh when I saw that the comments on the aforementioned ad was turned off.
When i see women struggling, l leave them to wait for their black knight whilst i continue on my way!

I watched the commercial...got a chuckle when she pops out from under the car having fixed it with a pipe wrench.
They do this in my industry.
Lots of pics of girls only doing everything with the majority of the workforce being male.
Getting a black maintenance man to put a suit on for a photo shoot then back into his overalls.
Most of the girls on the shopfloor, of which there are very few, go into the office once their apprenticeship is finished.
One went for a job recently ( all big on lgbt crap and dei). She or he did not get the job due to her communication skills. She ended making a complaint due to lack of diversity in that job role

I used to work on a lovely Morris Ital from time to time, and the engine bay was so large, yet accessing everything was so straightforward and easy to reach.
You basically wouldn't need a recovery service membership with one of them.

I know an ethnically West Indian plumber. He is from Watford. Admittedly, South Hertfordshire generally is/was not an area with a large ethnic population, though Watford is/was quite diverse. He worked as far afield as Luton - very diverse - and obviously worked in North London. He said he only ever encountered one other black plumber. He gave up plumbing and became a London Black Taxi driver.
Not that long ago, his son, close to school leaving age, brought home a "careers brochure." It featured a blurb extolling the virtues of plumbing as a vocation. The "plumber" pictured was, of course, a black female.
My acquaintance remarked that he'd only ever worked with one female plumber, who was quite well-known and attracted comments, as she was Vietnamese and about 4-foot-6. She was a great plumber, by all accounts.
Same with gas. British Gas ads have a black female 'engineer'. Never seen one...and I'm ex-British Gas and live in a town which is 33% BAME.
All the white men should leave Green Flag & see how long Green Flag lasts. Not very I suspect.

Brad Pitt is currently making a Formula 1 movie called, funnily enough, F1. It is not due out until next summer but they have already released an early trailer. It would appear from the trailer his chief designer/engineer is a woman. Maybe I’m mistaken but I’d imagine this is not exactly typical in the world of Formula 1 motor racing.
If i was a woman, would i want to be working all hours, by myself, attending breakdows in who-knows-where with complete strangers?
Come to think of it, as a man i don't fancy that!

I worked as a mechanic for a year and a half decades ago, all i can say is like crewing a tank the girls are welcome to it.
This was timely. I was looking at AA, RAC, Green Flag and AutoAid. Green Flag is now out.
Green Flag is just a Franchise they sign up independant garages, they are normally very good. My car broke down and the Mechanic started it and then said I think the diaphragm in the petrol pump has split drive really slow and I will follow you. You will make it home! i did when I stopped at home he said open up the bonnet he pointed out the bolts that held the pump on then rung up the motor factors in town, they had the pump I needed I jumped on the local bus bought it and fitted it a twenty minute job for an ordinary bloke! Marvellous still with them today!
Best bet is to use one of the price comparison sites, and do a search for breakdown cover.
There`s always an offer on at one time. There`s no prizes for loyalty. So take advantage of introductory offers every year whoever offers it.

Black husband, white wife, and their two mixed race kids take a coach trip to a museum. The only other character is a lone white male, who gets 'zapped' skywards. Perhaps for no other reason than he is portrayed as a lone(ly) white male, on his own in museum without a family to enjoy the venture with.

Ad companies are really missing an opportunity. People would laugh so hard if just one of these commercials used accurate portrayals. Something like, "woman somehow drives on top of another car while trying to park, white man sets out in a rainstorm to help, but the car is stolen by a black guy before he gets there".
