  • Leo Russo (Ray Romano) lives a simple life in Queens, New York with his wife Angela (Laurie Metcalf), their shy but talented son “Sticks” (Jacob Ward), and Leo’s close-knit network of Italian-American relatives and neighborhood friends. Happy enough working at the family construction business alongside his father (Tony Lo Bianco) and younger brother (Sebastian Maniscalco), Leo lives each week for Sticks’ high-school basketball games, never missing a chance to cheer on his only child as he rules the court as a star athlete. When the high-school senior gets a surprising and life-changing opportunity to play basketball in college, Leo jumps at the chance to provide a plan for his future, away from the family construction business. But when sudden heartbreak threatens to derail Sticks, Leo goes to unexpected lengths to keep his son on this new path.

I've been following Ray for 27 years but he took time off after Get Shorty. He's one of those comedians with no new content. I imagine he was on the road but I don't know what our local stand comedy venue is up to. It seems like in my neck of the woods it just keeps moving location. Went from an area of Kansas City called Westport to a suburb called Overland Park but now I think it's in Kansas City Kansas. There maybe in other venues but I'm not familiar with it.

I love Ray Romano. Have for years. My Grandfather was Italian and my Grandmother was Irish. An explosive combination. My grandmother was always telling everyone, “Watch ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. “They are just like us.” Unfortunately I didn’t start watching it until around the time she passing. My grandmother had a stroke and was not doing well, but it was when she no longer had interest in watching “Everybody Loves Raymond” that we knew she was on her way out. I recognize the people in that series. The most important thing I learned from them, from my family, was passion. Just the feeling of great passion, being compelled by it and unashamed to show it. What is life without passion?

I'm sorry about your grandmother, my friend. Italians and Irish sometimes volatile together , we actually seem to get along living beside each other. I think because when our people first came to America, none of the other white people wanted us here. so we opened our own businesses , churches, etc... There's definitely a mutual respect between our two cultures.

The smell of meatballs was the hangover cure on Sunday mornings! Followed by Papa's homemade "joy juice", toenails included! Antipasti was at 1pm. We all sat down at 3pm - with three tables. We were cracking nuts and eating grapes by 7pm. Then the doppio espressos with the Anisette and Nocelo - EVERY SUNDAY! Christmas/Easter/Thanksgiving - forgettaboutit! We had 3 kitchens growing up. The best was when my mother used my bed to dry out the homemade raviolis.

Looks like a good movie. Laurie Metcalf looks better in this movie then the way they make her look on the Conners. Ray must be a Queens native

Well, she's a completely different character on "The Connors," obviously.

The original Roseanne show in the late 80s and early 90s didn't know what they had lol. Laurie Metcalf has always had range. She was good in JFK and internal affairs. John Goodman was always good in comedy or drama as well.
