    I grew up with Britpop. I was 15 when “Suede” was released. I loved Blur, Oasis, Suede, Cast, Supergrass, Pulp, Ocean Colour Scene, Echobelly, Sleeper etc.
    Part of me said it was a fad and we’d all look back on it as a bit silly. But now that I’m older I look back and I still think it was epic. People from every generation probably do that but I think the 90s stacks up against other eras.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Год назад +2

      Totally. I mean it’s weird for me because I grew up in the 90s, that was my era to witness. Delving back into the 60/70/80s and working in reverse led me to discover an almost infinite collection of incredible music but I don’t remember it “coming out.” I guess sharing that moment of discovery with the entire world hits different. 🙌🏻

      @@SpedSpedding That’s it I think. I was a huge Small Faces/Kinks/Beatles/Stones/Zombies fan but being part of the generation that lived it gives it a special place. Is “1977” by Ash better than “Hunky Dory” or “Disraeli Gears”? No. But I saw Ash live 3 times and that means something to me.

    Great video!! It’s kind of funny because Brit Pop was felt over here in the USA. It just wasn’t as massive as it was in the UK. Alternative radio stations played it often and I was hooked. I have Noel’s Epiphone on order now. I have been blessed to see Oasis in Chicago and Wembley stadium. Plus multiple times when the band went solo as well. Keep up the great work. Amazing channel by the way i love the led zep and the smiths how to play videos could you do the smiths nowhere fast how to play video and have you considered doing a john peel sessions version guitar and bass cover of what difference does it make (capo 4th fret i think) andy rourkes basslines in that version are phenominal what a legend 👏👏👏

    I'm an American who only fell into Britpop in the past 5 years. I was never really a music person (movies are more of what I geek out about), but a friend shared Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory, and they just blew my mind. It felt like music that deep down I'd always wanted to hear, but never had. From there I started listening to all the other British groups and artists from that period and have been left with a far greater appreciation for rock music as a whole. It even got me to pick up a guitar and start learning to play for the first time since... Has to have been 15 years since I learned guitar basics back in school, and I'm more enthusiastic about honing my skills now than I ever was growing up.

    I was born in 1970 and was a teenage mod during the 80s hanging on the tail end of the '79 mod revival. When Brit-Pop happened I was still young enough to feel a part of it, and I still feel really lucky to have been at that age in that era, and like you, the music always stays with you.
    With regards the suss chords, I think the influence of The Who and Townshend's guitar playing in particular is a big part of the range of influences on all those bands, and he uses suss chords all the time. It's just part of 'the sound'. But I like your theory about these chords symbolising the desire of the working class to break down the barriers and escape, as the first of my family to go to uni, that resonates with me as well. Nice work 👍

      @@SpedSpedding exactly, it’s indeed a truly super skinny neck but very easy to play for small handed person. Actually it is the same model as Johnny Marr who wrote “heaven knows I m miserable now” on it and who therefore strongly influenced Bernard Butler in having the same guitar. There are videos on it on RUclips.
      Sure you will get lot of views for this video so you can make some tutorials for Stone Roses Love Spreads (very Jimmy Pagic) and Suede Asphalt World ! Will just have to change your 70’s haircut to something more consistent with Britpop style. Cheers from Morocco mate, you definitely rock!

    It's funny I was thinking Champagne Supernova before you got to the riffs, Street Spirit (Fade Out) would be my second choice followed by The Riverboat Song. I forgot how awesome that opening to The Beautiful Ones was, I'll have to give that a go at some point.

    Johnstone’s paints, eh? Good choice. Funny how the music of your youth always keeps dragging you back - in my case Hendrix, Led Zep, Wishbone Ash, John Martyn, just keep coming in waves through the decades (quite a few now). But yours were pretty cool too. Plus, polishing the guitar and mundane string changing as art. Well I never. Cracking video. Keep it up.

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Год назад +1

      Some specials bands in your collection there. It really does make a difference living through the decade as opposed to going back and wading through in your own time. As much as I love Hendrix and Zeppelin and the like they predate me so it was always through old albums or magazines I would find stuff.
      Explains why it’s rooted in me.

    Not exactly Britpop, but of that era: "From The Rush Hour With Love" by Republica has always been a favourite. It's basically just mostly a D barre chord dragged all over the neck, but it just... Works. Sometimes, simple is all that's needed. 🙂

    • @SpedSpedding
      @SpedSpedding  Год назад

      I like D chords dragged all over the neck. Kings of Leon - The Bucket drags a D all over the neck and it’s great.
      What’s the big one by Republica? I remember learning it from an old guitar mag when I was a kid.

      @@SpedSpedding Most likely "Ready To Go". in Drop D. Still played at a lot of sports events. You're right about Oasis. They did make a huge sound. I was at Knebworth in '96 and it was an epic gig. Nice bit of "Disco 2000" you played there too. I thought Pulp were covering "Gloria" by Laura Brannigan when I first heard that on the radio back in the day!

    Oasis was something else man. Your Epiphone is a beautiful guitar. Got me thinking about getting a semi-hollow guitar at some point in the future. Basically all of the songs from Weezer's blue album have stuck with me. The dissonance of the Undone Sweater song and the emotional charge of Only in Dreams. Yeah, Champagne Supernova was a great choice for this video. That song is super charged with emotion.

    Hey Sped!
    Not sure if it’s an optical illusion on my end here or not, but is that bridge on your Epi concaved some? This happens to the ABR-1’s and possibly on the Nashville types as well and more commonly if the player tends to use heavier string gauges. Anyway…. Eyeball it quick and let me know haha! I’m guessing it should be arched to a 12 radius like most of them.
    Yes…. My OCD is certainly kicking in here lol! 😂
    PS ~ I’m still working on your Dyer Maker tutorial to get it ‘right’ here, once it’s good to go I suppose I’ll move onto your Slash one 🤙

      Man oh man did I notice that myself. I reckon this guitar is 16/17 years old and all stock. I think I have a couple Graphtech bridges knocking around that I will swap it out for. Although, as you can see and hear, it ain't half bad haha. The switch is gone though so I will be replacing that with a switchcraft one.
