Are we all still hitting the books, listening to apps, writing out lines and messages in our target language? Sleeping with a french book under the pillow is optional. The Easy French reader by R. de Roussy de Sales is a must have.

A study routine takes time, mix in some comedy videos. Start small. Don't get swamped with apps and materials. If the vibe isn't right, take a break, A study routine should not be equated as work. Be flexible in developing a study plan or routine. Don't compare yourself to others, be yourself, progress at your own pace. Real life happens.

Hey Jim, I totally agree that sometimes we need to take a break from our studies and reevaluate! We have to make it fun, enjoy our routine. You give the best advice.

Another tip is the video by ccube academy entitled: DELF A1 Production orale French speaking exam, practice video. A person is testing for an A1 oral exam, where a person sits down and introduces herself. An excellent video to prepare and to know how to introduce oneself. A keeper of a video.

Remember there are levels of fluency for french. A1 to C2. I you and others need to set a reasonable goal such as A1, devote acertain amt of time per day or week, and stick to it. But also periodically review progress, perhaps at the end of 1 week. Be adaptable and flexible. Let everyone know how you are doing, and your accountable buddies will do the same. Bonne chance !

Emma, listening to world news out of Montreal or Quebec for a beginner would be like a 1st grade student trying to read war and peace, and that would be depressing. A few words might be caught, but not appropriate for the age or current mental development. Learners often have too high expectstions. The easy French reader I suggested is a bit of a struggle but at least the early chapters are for the most part understandable. Even better is the learn french in 10 minutes book, and both are available at Barnes and Noble. Also I would say a 1st year college book may be too advanced for an adult beginner, and I refer to adult learners. It will be interesting to see what you present, and I look forward to your study routine, / class video.

@emlanguages Salut Emma. I'll look forward to how you are doing. Where do you speak to interact with french speakers? You are attending a class, but with whom or what do you interact with to develop language speech skills outside of class? Is there also a french club or even a restaurant you go to to use target language speech? Do you get a town newsletter like I do, (Sutton, Quebec) to read in the french language? What materials does your instructor recommend getting for beginner students? Is there a kind of Syllabus that is being used as a guide or roadmap to attain for example A1 level? Thanks for your interest and replies Emma.

Without being crude or rude, can we be language buddies? If he drops an h, I get a point, if he drops an s, you get a point. There is no dropping the h in happiness in the English language. Thank you.
