This soy milk maker has changed my life. not only soy milk, I make all kinds of nut milk with this one. pretty simple to use. I only toss any soaked nuts I like then 30 mins later I'll get the milk. In Vietnam we use this kind of machine a lot, and it's cheap though. Mine is from LocknLock, a Korean brand.
if you haven't tried the Joyoung one, the top is very similar -- it doesn't fit tightly, but it works really well. soymilk foams like crazy while cooking so it keeps the cooker from exploding. 🙂 the Joyoung socket is on the pitcher, though, which is much better, and doesn't have an exposed heating element, so it's way easier to clean.
I used to wonder why my wife went through the trouble of making her own soy milk rather than buying. But then she made me taste it, now I make around 4 litres every few days for her and my father throughout the week. Have been looking around for something like this but haven’t found one locally. The ones I see are don’t really make that much at a time and requires lots of clean up. This one looks like it would be alright. Thanks for this review. 🙏
@@EastMeetsKitchen Soy milk in the American store is very light taste, cannot taste any bean flavor. Even in Chinese supermarkets, those soy milk are not tasting like authentic ones, more like been diluted 10x times. Authentic soy milk is actually having a thick flavor, like fresh ground coffee, those will have a thick fresh bean flavor. Classic handmake is way much better than those soy milk makers since less water will burn the bottom of the soy milk machine.
I have a Joyung one and it's really quiet and super easy to clean. It doesn't have the same crusting on problem that yours apparently had. And it's got little rubberized feet and so it doesn't move. I've usually filled to the top line and it's never overflowed.
Hi- I don't read Chinese sadly and have no idea how to make soymilk in my Joyung- do you have a recommendation for translation? Thank you so much. Random I know. Just... looking for help.
Soymilk makers were very popular years ago in Taiwan, though now high speed blenders have sort of taken over. Still, soymilk maker is super convenient if you drink soymilk on regular basis. The “5-bean” soymilk is actually “5-grain” - so you can add soybean plus other kinds of beans/grains to make multigrain drink. Root veg are also good, sweet potato or taro soymilk etc. You could strain the pulp but it’s not necessary, the newer models boast soymilk that doesn’t need straining. Hope you can try out the Joyoung brand, i think it’s perhaps better designed?
The high speed blenders explain why there are so many soya milk machines that are about ten years old waiting to be sold at second hand stores in Taiwan. Could you please share the name of the high speed blender in Mandarin? I'm tempted to see if I can find a second hand one. I think they are the same ones used for making fresh juice, correct? Thanks in advance.
This is cool that you can go from dry beans to soy milk in 30 minutes. I love fresh soy milk but it's so time consuming and the clean up is such a drag.
That sudden machine noise scared me too! I love the song it plays at the end. It's awesome that you're being approached by companies to review their products.
Hi Christina! Are you still enjoying plant/soy milk on regular basis? If yes would like to try out our plant-based milk maker MioMat? I think you would love it, it would be a big upgrade from this machine☺️ Please let me know - thank you 😊
I wouldn't give up my Joyoung for anything. Making my own soy milk saves me a lot of money, is rewarding, and easy. I make hummus with the okara and it is amazing - no waste!
Holy crap this is amazing, I can't find tofu that isn't overpriced and this will help me make them with less effort which is important cause I want to eat it often
I love it! Perhaps you can fill the container with a solution of water and baking soda (not baking powder!) and put the top on and let it soak to soften everything up before you clean it.
@@EastMeetsKitchen I was used to drinking soy milk from Tetra Paks in the UK for a long time until I moved to Taiwan. You can buy soya milk in plastic cartons like one would buy cow's milk in the UK. I've been making my own soya milk since I've moved here. It's kinda refreshing and I consume less plastic. However, I wonder if making it at a mass scale is more environmentally friendly?
I hate the fact that soymilk cartons and Tetrapaks aren't recycled here, so I've been dreaming of buying a soymilk maker for years. This did not inspire confidence, even before the psychokiller grunting of the blending step started! Thanks for the review and demo : )
This looks very similar to my Phillips Soup Maker that my husband recently got me for our anniversary. I found out a few weeks ago that I could make nut milks with it! I don't drink a lot of milk but never considered that I could make tofu with it! I'll have to give that a try!
Thanks for the candid review. I'll have to try one of these machines. I've actually never tasted fresh soymilk before, having always bought it in 1L jugs from the Chinese store. The machine sure is loud!
Thank you for another interesting tutorial. I always enjoy them. Did you try to run the cleaning program with dishwasher powder or tablets? I use them for my soyabella machine and it works quite fine.
The cleaning part is always, always my problem with this kind of appliances or combined appliances like this one or let's says a thermomix, it's always a pain to wash compared to the washing of the separate tools it replaces, in this instance, it would be much easier to clean you blender and a pot rather than this unit, plus it takes a lot of space!
In mine, the minimum liquid volume is 1L, and the maximum is 1.2L. The two lines are so close together, it's half the thickness of my finger. And both these lines are about a quarter the distance from the bottom to the top of the bottom container. To clean it, I just soak it in water for a couple of hours. Yeah, I know, it's electrical so we can't just dunk the whole thing in the sink. Instead just overfill it with water. Enough that when I put the top part in, it reach near the top but does not overflow. When in operation, mine does not boil off to the top. The highest the gunk goes is about half to three quarters the distance to the top. Sieving with cheese cloth is troublesome. Because the particles are ground so fine, it clogs up the cloth. So instead, I just run it through metal sieves, run it in several steps, using progressively smaller mesh. Go to the dollar store. I get metal ones so I can do it while it's still boiling hot, mainly because I'm too impatient to wait for it to cool.
Have you tried filling the pitcher part 3/4 up with hot soapy water then put the top on, let it soak for a bit then scrub it? If you use Blue Dawn Dish Soap, most of the crud should soak off.
East Meets Kitchen I usually cover the bits that plug in with my hand and scrub it with soap and water. Mine came with a little tooth brush thingie, and that really helps to get rid of the sticky film that the milk leaves behind. It also helps if you rinse out everything before it cools and dries on. edit: Mine is a little different than yours though, the plug is a little easier to cover with my hand. Maybe you could get one of those baby plug protectors to use when cleaning it?
Do you have any advice on making the soy milk MORE flavorful? I actually have a Joyung machine like this, but every time I try making soy milk, it comes out bland and flavorless (sort of like Silk soy milk). I'm really chasing the very fragrant, 'beany' (?) flavor like you get from restaurant made soy milk. I've nearly given up trying to making my own at all because I can't achieve it.
Hi i just bought this machine. The soy milk came out with the flovour that is uncook soymilk. So i need to reboil it on my gas stove and add some sugar. I guess the soymilk machine heating function is not hot enough.
I would not want it with the plastic piece inside while it is heating, and the manual does not have english written instructions. It may be easier to use a blender, then transfer the slurry to a pressure cooker so one does not have to monitor the milk while it is cooking.
It’s different from mine- mine you put the soy beans in a twist lock cup where the blender blade can blend...zero straining. Not musical. No soups only milk.
I love soy milk! And soy goods. But wow that electrical thing is a probbbb! Lol and the sporadic noise. Lol otherwise it does seem really cool! I hope the other company contacts you too so you can review their product too!

eBay has lots of them. I've bought two there.

Chinese soy milk honestly tastes so different from American/western, it really hits different lol

What setting would you use to make oat milk?
fresh soymilk is sooo good!! I need one of these

I might get one of these just so I don't have to carry so much soy milk from the store everytime I go shopping. Thanks for the review ✌️

when you clean the unit, put some duct tape to cover the outlet. Now You don't have to worry damaging the unit!

I could really use a soy milk maker next year when I'm a few months abroad. Tofu and soy yoghurt are essentials for me
i really want a plant milk machine but they are so expensive to me
It will quickly "pay for itself" because dairy milk alternatives are expensive!
Thank you for the review ❤️
May I know can this use to make oat milk too ? Which function I should use ? It is the fruits juice without heat ?
How about can I use this to do coffee beans too ?
No. It won't work
Olga used the Philips juicer
I always buy soy milk from the grocery stores here. Hope I could have that soy milk maker
Can we make spya beancurd with this machine?

How much does it cost please?
what does fresh soy milk taste like? 😅
Nut milks too? But clean up sounds a humbug.
Seems like someone needs to make a watertight silicone cap for that socket bit. There are moldable silicones, so it should be doable.
East Meets Kitchen as in watching one? Sure 😁
