      I'm interested. All I ever hear about is fry bread and tacos with chilli. It's good but I'd like to learn of other dishes. I think though most of what they came up with was back in old days with what the government gave them. The only other dish I learned of that was created from these items was something made from flour and coffee I think. A thick sludgy mixture made from fried flour and I'm not sure I coffee was fried also and then water added or coffee drink made and mixed in with flour.

    Just for reference, cassava is also known in US as manioc -- this is a common item to find in the South American shelves in supermarkets, at least in New England. Recipes written in Portuguese use the terms interchangeably, some areas of Brazil call it cassava and some areas call it "mandioca", and some places like the state of São Paulo have a big overlap where both words are used.

    If you're ever doing another soup video, I would highly recommend the Friesian peasoup called jetta or snert(this is also the Dutch terminology) In my opinion one of the best soups there is and over here it's eaten like a complete meal because it's a very rich soup that basically has everything in it what a well rounded meal would have. My grandmother's recipe is the best there is to me, I have looked but not found anything better or similar on the internet. I first came across that African "granat"/"ground nut" recipe for that soup in the Los Angeles Times some 35 years ago (though they called it a stew, not a soup). I've been making it 2 - 3 times/year ever since! I add more veg and definitely a chile pepper or two as well, minced up, because that's what the recipe I have calls for. Beryl, I love your channel. I’ve been watching you from the beginning, when you were mostly making instant ramen. You’ve come a long way and I’m really proud of you. 🥹👏
    You and your viewers from around the globe has inspired me to make several dishes that I would otherwise not even attempted. Like tonight, I’m making Bierock (German - rolls stuffed with meat and cabbage) something that I saw on Tasting History with Max Miller.
    Being 50ish I consider myself a seasoned cook, but mostly in southern fried cuisine, so it’s nice to try not only new dishes, but healthier ones too. Have a fantastic day!

    Our family made all of these soups over the last few weeks. What a treat! My husband's favorite was Shorbat Adas. My eldest daughter's favorite was Bantan. My favorite was either Bantan or Groundnut. They were all delicious and comforting in this cold weather.

Everything looks delicious! I would have watched this video if it was an hour long, that’s how much I enjoyed it! And I also want to say that I loved all the earrings you were wearing for each presentation of every soup! And it would be great if you could share where you got them from and all that! (Or maybe YOU made them?😊) Thanks again for this video and I can’t wait to watch more of your videos! God bless you for sharing all this international yumminess with all of us! 🙏🏼❤️

      A friend brought a version of groundnut soup back from Niger, where he had worked as a member of the Peace Corps in the mid-1960s. He probably adapted it a bit to American ingredients available at the time. I still make it to this day; fabulous!

    A fun fact: the Brazilians you invite to share Brazilian recipes in your Chanel always share a very niche recipe, unknown to most of the general people. If you ask any Brazilian about a soup, they would most likely say chicken soup (called canja) or cassava soup. This soup the girl shared with you I never ever heard of haha

    • @IlzaTS
      @IlzaTS Год назад +9

      É que canja de galinha é tão comum e tem algo parecido em outros países. Nosso país é tão grande e diverso q acho mais interessante mostrar receitas regionais até mesmo pra nós brasileiros conhecermos.

      Eu sou do Maranhão, nem eu sabia que essa sopa era daqui, eu achava que todos do país a conhecia kkkkk, pois em qualquer lugar do meu Estado se encontra, é algo tão comum que a gente nem dá muita importância.

    I love a good soup and these all sound so good! I like a lot of the classic comforting soups like chicken wild rice, baked potato, tomato, and french onion, but some soups I really love that are less common in the U.S. include Japanese style corn potage, this amazing chicken mung bean noodle soup from my favorite local Thai restaurant, and this silky pureed white bean soup I found in a Cook's Country magazine

    The Chinese oxtail soup is also called Russian soup by Chinese. My mother taught me how to cook this soup with the story that it was introduced to Shanghai after the Soviet revolution from Russian escaping the new regime. We use daikon radish, tomatoes and green cabbage. Sometimes I add carrots. My mother would pan fry the potato chunks so they would hold their shape better. It is our traditional winter soup. I still make it after 60+ years.

    That Shanghai-style borscht (the oxtail soup) got me through the pandemic. In 2020 when everything was shut down for long stretches, I made a big pot of it almost every Sunday and it gave me a tasty low-effort meal option for all the times I was too busy or tired to cook throughout the week.
