I know this is a rerun but gosh it’s so wonderful to watch, see his enthusiasm, how he incorporates ideas and makes them his own, his industry, and finally his wonderful production. Thank you for running again for those of us who missed the first time. So many lessons for gardening and life.
Jim's a legend in the community gardening world. He's done so much with limited garden space compared to what farmers usually have. He's very in tune with the seasons
I work for a farm here in a suburb just outside of Boston, and learned that New England farmers used to bring their farming equipment down south to Florida, and farm all winter, then reverse the process to get back up home and get ready for the coming Spring in NE each year!
Justin, Jim is a master!!! He understands how to "feed his bugs." He is a constant study of the soil and speaks the language of the earth. He's the Joel of the garden. His knowledge is extensive.
Need more men like this in this world, creative, hard work, good people. God Bless him and good people around the world and Justin too to share this-- You are the Hero.
Jim is one of the most articulate, intelligent people I have ever watched and listened to. His knowledge is expansive. I cannot imagine what it is like to spend a day with a man that knows as much as he does. His energy and enthusiasm wears me out. Excellent video.
I enjoyed your two visits with him in Florida and Maine during "The Great American Farm Tour". He had taught you how to use the scythe right? Thanks for this Justin. I thought you were going to see him now on your vacation down to Florida? It's nice seeing this again. Coleman was the guy he used as his mentor and then he tweaks the methods Coleman used. It interesting that the different sands can make a difference in growth on this germinated plants. The brambles management he does on the farm in Maine is incredible too.
He posted on the 6th on Instagram that he visited with Jim and Pete . Rebecca commented that he filmed the visit but wasn’t sure when it would come out.
Pete does occasional vlogs (;here on YT, Green Dreams channel, but just search "Jim Kovaleski" and you'll find em ). This past summer, he did several videos up in Maine with him too, and Pete has visited the Rhodes' ( yall probably already know ) not too terribly long ago too. I am a major Jim K. fan !
Those small Turnips grow here in Northern England and Scotland We use them mostly cooked and they are very sweet lovely in a vegetable soup with a chicken stock base and whatever other veg you have. Garlic does need a cold period, in permanently warm areas it can be done in the back of the fridge for a fortnight or longer and then laid on wet kitchen roll to start the growth of root before planting out into soil that has been well watered. Garlic needs plenty of water without the soil being a swamp.
I love that, "it's running on breakfast" - in Denmark we say "it's running on the rye bread engine" (yeah, we eat a lot of rye bread). Usually we refer to things like our beloved bicycles or manual tools like the lawn mower :)
Really nice his compost is free, here in Maryland they sell it at home depot, it's plenty cheap, but free is free. The dollars may sound good, but that's a ton of work by himself. I watched Gardening Naturally with Eliott & Barbara in the early 90's make his starter soil, he used green sand, you can find that episode here on RUclips.
I remember seeing this farm on the Great American Farm Tour . It still amazes me , the design , the details and WOW he has transformed his neighborhood .
We turned out backyard into a garden we use cotton seed mulch and pecan shells in our garden. We live in a gated community and we sell our produce and everyone wants the lettuce. We also have lots of pecan trees and persimmon trees in the back of our fence so we go get lots of pecans. Probably have 100 pounds of pecans.
So nice to visit him again. You tube time traveling. Thanks Justin. NEOHIO (Tried to see ya when you was here. My car broke down just up the road. 911 called tow truck, spend the night in a seedy hotel. Never got to meet you.)
Good for him! Best of both worlds. Look at all those dandelions. Love Dandelion tea! Beautiful property in Maine! We used our town's compost one year and nothing grew but kale. Went back to what we used before and our garden grew. Some people may use round up on their yard scraps so be careful with the town's compost. Easy to make your own compost. Onion skins boil to make a tea or out on your plants. Onion skins make quercetin and Vit C .
Jim said in his recent video with Pete Kanaris that the bigger wood chippy stuff staying on top ( especially since he waters it all in after applying more ) that this keeps his lettuce nice and free of grit and sand.
Oh how I love Jim! He is the ultimate neighbor. He's so smart and interesting, warm and kind. Besides all of that he can grow anything. Wouldn't you love to just follow him for a year and do a documentary on his life. I guess Uncle Pete has sort of done that with his videos of Jim. Love this post about Jim. So so interesting and full of great knowledge! Love Love Love Ya, Jim!😊❤🍏🍎🍐🍋🍓🍅🥬🥦🥕
Great to see Jim and hear his progression but a TV show would take him too far from his live style. The health of being grounded in touch with the soil and living plants is ions that are the opposite of what is produced by electronics. Doing video takes time. We are fortunate to witness his progress.
MAD RESPECT FOR THIS MIGRANT, ITINERANT FARMER!! LOVE HIS HOLISTIC MANTRA, & UTOPIAN LIFESTYLE...WE LIVE ON THE EARTH...NOT OFF THE EARTH, & HE UNDERSTANDS THAT. I ALSO SEE WORK AS EXERCISE...& DO MY EXERCISE CARING FOR MY HORSES. ALSO HAVE THE DREAM OF SEASONAL MIGRATION, AS I'VE ONLY MISSED ONE WINTER OUT OF 62 IN THE NORTH COUNTRY...I SPENT SOME TIME ON THE GULF COAST OF FLA. IN THE EARLY 80'S. JIM HAS ME PSYCHED FOR GARDEN PLANNING, & STARTING SOME SEEDS...I TRY, & PLANT SOME FRUIT TREES EVERY YEAR, I ALWAYS HAVE A BIG COMPOST/ HORSE MANURE/ SOIL MIX TO SPREAD AROUND...THANK YOU JIM, & ALL FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO...IF JIM EVER HAD TIME I THINK HE HAS A GREAT BOOK TO WRITE ABOUT HIS PHILOSOPHY, & GARDEN TIPS...♡☆♡☆♡☆♡
Much respect to him and his way of life.... so many reason this way of life is great! I try to learn as much as possible from my Dad. These men are few and far between. One day with this man- your kids will learn more life skills then a year of school
His enthusiasm is infectious 💕. His knowledge is invaluable 💎. Carbon footprint , light as a 🪶. Thank you for this upload on RUclips ♥️ I wish that I could give you “Justin Rhodes” more 👍🏽… it really is THAT good 😊 Subscribed
How could a garden ever be ugly? I bought a house last year and it's a corner lot that gets tons of sun on that corner, I have been ripping up the south lawn and putting in beds like crazy, last year I started with just a few things like tomatoes, cukes, peppers, herbs, squash, etc. and neighbors were drawn to it, walking over to look or stopping cars to tell me how great it looks. When they do I share my yields with them. I have no fence, one neighbor said she hopes no one steals my veggies-- I figure if someone is that hungry they are welcome to take some but no one touches it. This year I'm gonna have 100 sq ft of beds, I'm so excited it's the biggest garden I ever had (being a city gardener I started in containers, raised beds are awesome).
Is Jim the same guy we see in a separate video, about using the scythe? He seems to have the same mannerism, that was also a very interesting video. This guy has a lot of very useful information like Salatin, would be good see if he has a YT channel to document everything he's doing. Thanks for shedding light on these geniuses for us Justin!
Yes, I grew garlic in large pots in Lake County, FL a few years ago when we lived there. Yes, in the fridge for six weeks and then planted. Big good bulbs.
Love Jim Kovaleski! I love what he does and it's so fascinating how knowledgeable he is! Loving this video. Thank you for bringing me a new (to me) video. Loving your young ones too...I laughed when you called man down. LOL Great comradery and cooperative content.
paramagnetic soil blocks, what whaaaat! a "camper van" full of produce and a sleeping bag on the road, glorious. I watch him on Pete's channel all the time but had to comment, love Jim
Jim is an wonderful gentleman. I think he leads an amazing life! I saw this a few years ago. I had no idea who you were but the title caught my eye. So this episode is how I came to know you and your family! I would love to see an update on Jim!
5:43, I have to disagree, it IS about the freshness! The organic stuff from the store sat in a truck for a day to three, before it's delivered to the grocery store distribution center. It sits in the warehouse 1-3 days before it FINALLY makes it's way to the store to be sold.
This gentleman prove the lies we are fed daily that the piece of land you live on cannot produce food. Imagine every house hold in an area growing several different vegetables. Healthier food, wholesome activities for the children and retired.
Absolutely amazing story! I love the energy & zest for life and plants this man has. I learn a lot from this hardworking person. Thanks a lot for sharing Justin. God bless you and the nomad gardener!
What a wonderful spot. You keep mentioning Joel Salatin. I have two nephews who did internships at Polyface and I have personally met him and toured Polyface. Where in Florida is your place? Very exciting what you have been able to do!!
This guy is a treasure trove!! Somebody needs to write all of his doings down!!
He has an online course with Pete Kanaris from Green Dreams.
Yep they have been doing videos on him for awhile
@@Floreypottery does he have his own channel please?
I know I`m sending this to friends and family. somebody could put together a site of these people ,today we are apart of The Progression, Smile
He is very passionate and knowledgeable about his gardening business. Very smart idea producing food on his yard and other relatives' yards
Jim's enthusiasm is contagious. I could use a pep talk from him, daily.
Easy to be enthusiastic when you are success !
Amen to that!
I know this is a rerun but gosh it’s so wonderful to watch, see his enthusiasm, how he incorporates ideas and makes them his own, his industry, and finally his wonderful production. Thank you for running again for those of us who missed the first time. So many lessons for gardening and life.
Every community needs a Jim!

Justin, your enthusiasm 😂 when you took the bite of that stem. 🥦
So funny.
Justin, Jim is a master!!!
He understands how to "feed his bugs." He is a constant study of the soil and speaks the language of the earth. He's the Joel of the garden. His knowledge is extensive.
Wow !! Very interesting. I am thrilled to have seen all of this
This man is the teacher for the new United States Republic...such a wealth of knowledge MUST be shared !!
SO fun to see the Rhodes kids at a young age-already in the middle and eager to help with the work!
Need more men like this in this world, creative, hard work, good people. God Bless him and good people around the world and Justin too to share this-- You are the Hero.

This man has the most interesting life ! I didn't want this story to end .
Crazy I’m right in Ocala Florida with 10
Acres. Not too far at all! I do chickens, ducks, turkey, boar goats and more to come
Love the concept of front yard gardening.
I have the joy of driving past this place everyday in FL on my way to and from work. Love what he has going on!

he posted a visit to see him on tiktok, with Pete from Green Dreams

This guy is awesome. This is what freedom from tyranny looks like. Great community as well.

Simply stunning. So inspiring. Blown away...from Florida to Maine?!?😳🥰👍👍
This guy has figured it out, he’s a trip and an inspiration.
Justin...need this guy on RUclips
I remember seeing this farm on the Great American Farm Tour . It still amazes me , the design , the details and WOW he has transformed his neighborhood .
Should see his place and what he does in Maine
I got to try those turnips last summer through a CSA I had purchased for fresh veggies. They were sold as salad turnips. Very yummy.
This is still one of my favorites, his energy and knowledge is energizing. He needs a camera following him! He is just a natural.

Great video, Justin! Jim is a huge inspiration. Glad you got him on.

Always so good to see Jim again! I don't even care if it's old footage
Thanks for taking the time to visit and then share this video Justin
Love seeing farmers collaborate
Very good example.

Love what Jim is doing! So energetic!
Jim said in his recent video with Pete Kanaris that the bigger wood chippy stuff staying on top ( especially since he waters it all in after applying more ) that this keeps his lettuce nice and free of grit and sand.
As a Mainer living in Florida I can really relate to his gardening. I never watered my gardens in Maine.

Glad to see that you got to Jim.
Jim is a great guy and farmer always love to see him in videos I always learn something. Thanks Justin for sharing.
How refreshing to watch like-minded individuals thrive!
What a cool guy. I saw him with the scythe but this ones new to me. Such an inspiration.
Give Jim Kovaleski a medal for stewarding so many bits of land and inspiring, teaching and feeing so many people 🏕️
Jim needs his own TV series!
I'd watch.
Great to see Jim and hear his progression but a TV show would take him too far from his live style.
