Novation Peak just got even better with Firmware 2.0 - here’s some free organ/e-piano/pad patches.

- On March 31st, 2022, Novation released firmware 2.0 for the Peak. This update brings some major new features some of us have been waiting for quite long.
If you’re in the Facebook group “Novation Peak & Summit”, you may have seen my vid from 2 years ago, where I tried complicated workarounds to make LFO speed ramping happen on my Peak, to get Leslie rotary speaker kind of sounds:

Following this, Bradley Gray and me both advocated for ramping controls for the Peak Animate buttons, and apparently Novation listened: Ramping control is there! You can define independent attack and release times for each of the Animate buttons. Great not only for emulating rotary speaker acceleration, but also for all kinds of auto-morphing stuff.
Another great addition is that stereo panning now can be freely controlled and modulated. Also, envelope sustain times are finally available as modulation target, and several other parameters too.
In this vid, I use the IK UNO Synth Pro as a MIDI controller to play the Peak via USB through my laptop. In some parts, I’m using the Cubase MIDI Transformer plug-in to transpose some of the lower notes an octave down, to get more range out of that little 3 octave keyboard.
Audio runs from the Peak into the Analog RYTM Mk. II external input. RYTM provides some drum beats; also, the RYTM’s analog master compressor affects both the internal drum sounds and the Peak. From RYTM, a stereo signal runs to a RME soundcard and is recorded as a single stereo track in Cubase. Some limiting added in Cubase. All other effects on the synth sounds from Peak (effects on drum sounds from RYTM).

Thx! I am very happy with the RYTM. It does have its limitations; like, I’m not a big fan of the analog snare engine. The VCA envelope doesn’t retrigger before release has reached zero level. Both for sequencing external gear and for the internal sample engine, the note range is very limited. The Dual VCA engine sounds great, but the tuning/intonation is off in the higher note ranges (at least on my device; even after re-calibrating). Still, it sounds great, and it inspires me and is really fun to use.

Can I upload these to the Summit?
Yes, Peak patches can be uploaded into the Summit AFAIK; while vice versa doesn’t work yet, though single patches should be compatible as long as they use standard filter settings.
I think there is one setting which needs to be made to make the envelopes behave identical, not sure though, don’t have a Summit. Also, there’s apparently a bug on the Summit concerning dry levels at, or close to, 0% ... but since all my Patches here have full dry level, no problem.
