Most players do that especially WR's and QB's. If you go to an NFL game anywhere you see a ref you see a player or multiple players unless they are huddled up together then the players are not far from the huddle. Coaches especially assistant gravitate to the officials as well during pregame
I played college basketball. I did that all the time. I would compliment their shoes, their fairness, I would ask how their wives and kids were. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do it.
