Interviewed, Joo said that he’s using Curlp 3a, better for attack, not bad for chopping. I guess he finishes the point earlier, I mean instead of chopping all day long, he tries to win the point by attacking with the pips (when the opportunity comes). I imagine that he changed due to: 1) The ball; less rotation, so less backspin. And 2) His age, in one episode of “ ask a pro anything” from ITTF, he remarked that with the new plastic ball he has to attack more with the forehand, but now he’s old (at a that level it’s not the same) and he can’t do it as before. So, I guess that’s why he changed to Alpha, in order to attack and surprise the opponent by attacking with pips. Cheers!
