You said Raven Darkn'ess and my 2000s brain screamed Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way for absolutely reason. TS4's name character limit has done us all dirty.
I only realize now what a control freak I was for having to decide EVERYTHING my sims are going to do. Like it would give me panic attacks if everything just burst out in chaos. Lmao
Oh fr I'm playing the grim reaper challenge thing and I got so mad I was playing God changing the weather/season, forcing my sim to fish even though she just wanted to sleep, made her quit her job, stole 20k from her husband cuz he broke off their engagement etcetera
god the 'thought i was straight' bit got me. Fricken same. Me makign that exact same giant block house and making two guys and doing very similar progression sitting there like 'i am a straight girl.' not at all aware how wrong i was on both counts.
this is exactly how I played when I was a child. Same face, same clothes, same hairstyle and same "good" traits any time I made sims. Move them into a biiiig box with a random roof and random windows and fill the box with aaaall the expensive stuff by cheating money. Then never leave the big box and use the random items in endless circles. I don't know at which points cheating needs became a thing, but as soon as I figured out how to do it, I did it, so my sims would never eat or sleep or use the toilet, just obsessively build skills and do fun stuff.
once made a granny-only household with exactly the same type of house - disco flooring and everything. and i remember my dad commenting how my sim's gonna die of exhaustion while going from one end of the house to another 😠
My first sims house was just a cinder block with the rainbow door and a cherry tree with the cheapest most basic bench 💀😭. No windows, roofing, wallpaper, decor, lighting (besides a single floor lamp), accidentally deleted the floor and didn't know how to fix it so the one giant bedroom that they all shared just had grass at the bottom.
My go-to Sims gameplay as a kid playing The Sims 3: - Create a Sim named Amber Di Angelo and dress her with the World Adventures clothes - Select an empty lot and then use the motherlode cheat - Buy the Modernehaus and re-decorate with World Adventures furniture (guess what my favorite pack is) - Adopt a fluffy puppy - Go on adventures (China then Egypt then France) and only return to take care of my dog, Scamp This was the height of fun. Also, MySims Agents (Wii)
my first sims were always young adult male named something like Peter or Adam, he'll be wearing black t-shirt blue jeans, basic brown hair, his traits were Lucky, Loves Outdoor, Ambitious, Virtuoso, Good & he'll always be a rockstar. I didn't even knew about the cheats
When I was a kid I would make stories a lot using the family album thing, using the captions as scenes. I would read a lot of ones other people created and posted on the official Sims website. I was obsessed with the stories that featured occults.
same, i like to believe it's my adhd. I do it irl too tho, usually when im in the middle of something, i just freeze, like a sim with a routing error, because i forget what im suppose to be doing.
The way my friend and I would work together to make a house this attrocious but could never work out why it didn't Look Good. And also we hadn't actually discovered cheats yet so we just made them on empty lots and dreamed of one day affording them, then never played a family long enough to achieve it. And I exclusively made and played 8 million iterations of 'the flock' from James Patterson's Maximum Ride series (prior to it sucking so bad that even my 14 yr old arse was like 'Huh. Things that cost money... can be bad actually?')
Hahhaha! This is exactly how my 7 yo daughter builds, except she uses the biggest and grandest windows, side by side all over. ALL over the house. No privacy in ANY room. 🤣🤣🤣 There are only one bedroom (usually pretty small compared to the rest of the house) and one bathroom (sometimes bigger than the bedroom) and the rest is open floorplan. 😅😅😅
I've got to be the only human in the world that never made the giant mansion that looks like a box. 😂 Building in Sims 1 was way too much work, so I didn't. By the time Sims 2 came out, I was 17. I love seeing the trope though, I think it's hilarious. 😂
My original Sims routine was make a man and woman and make them kiss and kiss until they had a baby, then struggle to take care of the baby and cry when the social worker came to remove them. Sims 1 was brutal.
I remember was literally obsessed with OFB at one point so, often my gameplay would just be me making all of my sims either own a bakery or toy store, they would make a bunch of items, try to sell to customers, then I'd close the game, then repeat haha
"I would make a relatively small house"..... Proceeds to outline the entire lot with walls....... I would build the exact same way because I hated the weather.
That house gave me nightmare flashbacks. House covering the whole lot. Every floor constructed. The most emo bricks on the outside. ALWAYS the weird fire lava lamp wallpaper on the inside. Every colour. Carpets matched the walls. Lots of furniture put everywhere so I could pretend I didn't make the house too goddamn big to be functional and additional motherlode cheats just to afford the bills every week. And despite having everything they needed... the household still fell into aspiration failure every goddamn day.
My first sims game was sims 3 so my gameplay for some reason included working at the graveyard, and after the work, staying to enter some text adventure thing on that lot, over and over, that's the whole game. I should've been playing dwarf fortress or something
This is giving me flashbacks of when I made a shopping centre in The Sims 2 that was just a massive square filling up the 64x64 lot with the big round fountain in the center and then I realized I couldn't actually make it work because The Sims 2 had no concept of what a shopping centre/mall was.
Motherlode to excess yes! Sim to look like a pretty version of me. Guy with much less effort put in. Giant house. Join science career. Have a kid - be a good mom so my kid would be loved. Aim for getting abducted. Play chess constantly to max logic skill. Once bored - graveyard time! Not my family though, but anyone who came around.
Since I started with sims 1 memories a little spotty at this point, but I just remember making characters from my favorite shows (pre realizing fanfic was a thing) or murdering multiple sims in pools for epic graveyard homes.... My favorite eventually being single vampire cat mom living in beautiful graveyard houses by sims 2 era...
I remember panicking the first time I played because I picked a very large lot and thought you were required to fill all the space so I made the giant box house too 😅
I'm also sick right now, and I was laughung so hard it made me cough real bad 😅 This reminds me of that time you played the sims 1, one of my all time favorite videos!

Your building process in this is both completely understandable and so, so painful to me. I didn't play sims as a kid but I did play minecraft, and by "play minecraft" I mean I'd load up a superflat creative world and build giant boxes which I somehow intended to turn into castles eventually. I spent all of my time just placing endless rows of obsidian and glowstone (which I had determined to be the best combination based on my extremely flawed understanding of the game's mechanics). So I get it! But also, dear god, make it stop!
Technically you're right, judging by the new respawn anchors. So you should feel vindicated, all you needed to do was yell at the obsidian until it was crying.

I knew my building skills sucked so I just cheated to buy a house off the gallery every time. But recently I've started to find joy in making houses for my sims! They're more functional than pretty but I think I'm getting okay at doing builds.
No joke when I first started playing ts4 like five years ago I didn’t realize you could store food back in the fridge so I would leave my food out to rot on the counter and force my sims to eat it anyway
I saw the house in the thumbnail and new I had to click. I always made one floor for the parent, one for the babys one for the kids and even one for the pets. Coupled with to many lights so i could see everything and boom. House.
