I just purchased my RO 10mm earlier this week and fired it today for the first time. I went through a box of Remington and two magazines of HSTs with no problems.
Glad to see a new video from you brother! That is a very nice SA 1911! Our go to 1911 maker is Dan Wesson. 1911 pistols are notoriously picky as far as magazines, I would pick up a few Tripp Research Cobra Mags and see if it helps with the reliability of your 10mm 1911. - B9USA
10mm ammo can be really picky. Even with my Glocks I run into issues with certain ammo. The tighter the tolerances, the pickier guns and ammo get. When I put a fully supported aftermarket barrel in my Glock I start to get more feeding issues. I think it has to due with the vast variety of 10mm ammo at a wide range of weights and velocity.
I just put a kkm barrel in my G40 and both my fiance and her best friend had jams with it with Herter's and PMC ammo. I haven't had any issues with it but I think it's a combination of the ammo and maybe not quite strong enough grip
Purchased one of these on 09/07/2019. Have since shot roughly 300 rounds through it, had roughly 4 nose up failure to feeds. I have shot the following: 60 rounds Hornady 180 XTP hollow points 250 rds Sig 180gr FMJ 20 rds Underwood 180gr XTP I had at least one failure to feed with everything except the Underwood. I tried various different magazines and appears the ones that came with the gun and a Kimber non Kim-pro 10mm showed issues. I tried one of my 45 Wilson combat mags and ran flawlessly. Alternatively , I have learned with these there a couple improvements that should be made that I have parts coming to mitigate these issues. 1) EGW flat bottom firing pin stop to slow the slide down so the magazine can catch up. (Part needs to be fitted) 2) 25# main spring to also help the timing of the slide. 3) 22# recoil spring. Also have been suggested to try 10% over magazine springs to help as well. Hearing Tripp and Wilson mags are the way to go. I have all my parts showing up this week and once I have it back on the range with these mods I will update you with my progress. The gun is amazing, with a little upgrades I think it can be flawless.
Thanks for the video. I grabbed a used Springfield 10mm RO 1911 last month. Went to the range with 100 rds of Sellier & Bellot . . . and it was jamming like mad. Then I found your video and went back with 50 rds of Winchester, Magtech, and Armscor each. No issues at all. Last weekend I went back with a box of Sellier & Bellot and started jamming again. Only thing I can note is the ammo that fed well had a bit of roundness to the tip. The S&B was just a flat edge cone.
i have owed several springfields , one thing i have noticed is , its often a good idea to clean them up before shooting right out of the box. for instance The AR-pistol i picked up kept jamming, after taking it apart cleaning it up, it has since ran over 5,000 rounds now without another jam.
I had the same issues with my springfield 10mm, federal cycled with no issue but the remington and magtech ammo jammed constantly. Gun was very picky in the ammo used. The rem and magtech had a very defined lip at the casing that kept getting stuck.
Welcome back brother. It's been a while. I own the TRP in 10mm and I'm pretty sure the mags, and mostly everything else are pretty much the same for the most part. I never had any issues like this. Amazing though. It just doesn't like that Magtech. Could be a thing of a really tight gun and not quite to spec ammo. People are trashing Springfield guns as piss poor. You're wrong. Even though you don't like the politics doesn't mean they now make crap. SA always did, and still do make great firearms.
Thanks Brother! Im hoping after a few more range sessions it wont be as picky but I guess time will tell. For now Im going to try some hotter ammo to see if it runs any better. Thanks for watching brother!

That was a rough one. Glad to see the whole video and much agreed for the retail they ask for it should be much better. Appreciate the review since I was looking into this 10mm
Interesting. I was having the same problem with magtech in my P40. I swear the case rim dimensions are off and it’s having problems slipping under the extractor when feeding. However, it runs just fine in my G20. Shrug.
Got one of these noticed I had some of the same issues first the feed ramp had a sharp lip very small at the top leading into the chamber that was causing the cartridges to stop up. Had a few issues with them going completely into battery and it was due to the tight tolerances of the gun. I went through and recrimped the factory ammo also cleaned up/polished the feed ramp to get rid of the lip. I also reload my own ammo and now that I have figured out what the gun likes I have run almost 1000 rounds through it without a single jam or hiccup.
I just bought the same weapon. Went to the range with PPU 170gr ammo. I had a lot of jams just like you did. Then I used Sig Sauer 180gr ammo. Fired Excellent. Not one malfunction in a box of 50. Even in the Manuel it says to use good quality ammo like Remington or Federal ammo. So I bought an expensive gun, it will get to fire expensive good quality ammo.
I just got a Operator and had failure to feed with cheaper Federal 180 grain FMJ with a flat style tip. Cleaned and gave light oil before running 2 more mags with only failure 1 per mag. Haven't tried other ammo yet.
I picked this pistol up a couple weeks ago. I have put about 600 rounds through it and have some major FTF and failure to go into battery on the 1 round almost every time. Going to contact Springfield on getting it sent back in. I have read that some of the pistols have been having this problem.
That magtech is loaded at .40s&w specs so it may not kick the slide back... happens even on g40 Round stuck in the chamber is new to me... Shoot the sig ammo as it's a full house 10mm load
Took the words out of mouth. I use Sig Elite Performance and V-Crown for carry and practice in my 1911's. Great combo to train with. Both at 180 gr and zip along at the same 1250 fps.
The federal ammo did feel a little hotter so that could be the issue. I ordered some Sig 180g FMJ's and Hollow Points to try out next...... Im also going to try that Magtech in my G29 and see if it feeds in that one.
I will say I do run .40 S&W through my 10mm's just for some cheaper range training with all my 10mm 1911's. Even with .40 cal spec power it should run like a sewing machine. Magtech in general is just crap.
Im a little late to the party but none of my 10mms like Magtech. I actually now run the ammo thru my Lee seating die and knock of .02 in length and it runs perfectly. No noticeable change in pressure or velocity
Huh, that was a learning experience. Never had a 1911 outside of .45, and never shot 10mm period. Never seen that sort of pickiness with ammo with my firearms, but I only really shoot 9mm, .45, 5.56 and 7.62x39. I thought it was the magazines at first, but Federal proved me wrong. Thanks for the video, it was very informative on the platform and how it handles 10mm.
I had the same issue with Armscor, S&B and Magtech. I had no problem with Sig and Federal ammo. I found that the difference is the broad head 10mm ammo. runs well through the firearm, but Magtech and the others have a less broad ball head on the bullet. The broader head Sig and Federal work just fine.
Picked up my RO Elite 10mm last week. I've only had time to put 100 rounds of S+B through it. Seemed like it fed just fine Except when you loaded the mags to full capacity, it would hang up on the first or second round.
That is one delicious looking pistol, Springfield makes some of the best looking 1911's on the market. I'm thinking it didn't care for that Magtech ammo, but it ate up that Federal good. Gorgeous pistol, thanks for the drool-fest!
I'm having the exact same issue with ammo incorporated 180 gr. When the ammo drought passes, I'm going to pick up a few different boxes and see how they each run in slow motion. With how tight the gun is, my theory is that the gun wants a hotter load to force the slide back harder and cycle more efficiently. Also, it could be the barrel itself. There is this weird looking "trough" on the back of the barrel where the round feeds into the chamber that I haven't seen before in a 1911 which I'm guessing is unique to the 10mm. It is VERY steep and I think that it's adding resistance as the round is trying to feed. I haven't had any issues with the initial feed when the slide is all the way back; it only seems to fail when it feeds from the force of the recoil which is why I think it may not like those "colder" loads. I initially thought that the slide could just be too tight given how hard it is to rack the slide, but after seeing yours in action I think it really is just a question of feeding the gun it's preferred flavor of 10mm. My gun is a picky bitch, so I'm gonna name it "Priscilla".
i have that same gun and have had the same failure to feed issue with a couple different brands of ammo. mostly cheaper range ammo like magtech, blazer, and winchester. It does seem to favor the Federal. Talked to SA customer service rep and they told me it was likely because i was keeping my mags loaded when not at the range (I didnt know there was any other way to keep mags but full of rounds) seemed like a bs answer but i got 2 brand new mags, same issue. The gun is picky. That's all there is to it.
Good video sir. Just got mine yesterday and wont have a chance to shoot it until the weekend. I buy lots of Magtech ammo in bulk and have never had any issues with it in my Glock gen4 20 or 29. Also shoot their 9mm in my glocks and Sigs without issues. I'll be sure to take additional ammo other than the MagTech to the range this weekend. I'll let you know after shooting
I had similar issues running Sellier & Bellot 10mm 180 gr. Since, I hv fired Armscor, Remington and American Eagle 180 gr. ammo with no issues. Have not tried the Sellier & Bellot ammo again. The ramp on this gun is steep and 10mm is a bigger longer profile. My conclusion is that the profile of the S & B ammo from the shoulder to the point was much steeper which made it way more susceptible to jamming. The bullet profiles of the other 3 brands of ammo are less steep from the shoulder to point allowing it to slide up the ramp into the chamber without error...similar to your experience with the Federal ammo.
I just bought the 6" TRP Operator in 10mm and had a lot of failures right out of the box as well. I was shooing Remington FMJ 180 gr. Did an extensive cleaning and lube after 200 rounds. Hoping next time I hit the range, the gun in a little more broken in.
@@MiguelGebremedhin Yes! Thankfully. This gun definitely had a break-in period. I'm not quite experienced enough to comment more than that but I would suggest using gun grease on the 1911 before it's first shoot.... Runs like a charm now though! But did an outdoor course last weekend and put 400 rounds down range without a single failure!
@@quinnfable2694 that's awesome man. I'm seriously looking into this pistol either in 10mm or 45. My range let us shoot 5 rounds for free and it honestly felt magical. I never shot a 1911 before until this one and I'm a believer now
@@MiguelGebremedhin I love this tried-and-true platform; even more so in the 10mm! Two pieces of advice: 1- spend the money on a quality 1911. 2- Definitely give it a clean and lube before shooting it. Best of luck man!
Subbed due to you showing all the failures. It's not the ammos fault. The gun should eat it all. People need to stop making excuses like magazine or ammo. It's the gun's fault.
I had similar issues w jamming...so, I tested 5 diff brands of 180 gr FMJ 10mm ammo, 3 mags of 9 bullets each. 3 out of the five brands jammed. Magtech and Sellier & Bellot jammed at least 10 times each and Blazer, not quite as bad, but annoying. Remington and Federal ammo was flawless...zero jams. To prove it, after all the testing and b4 cleaning, I loaded up two more clips of 9 each of the Federal and Remington ammo and rapid fired as fast as I could pull the trigger....no issues at all. I too fire Magtech thru a Ruger 9mm w no issues...imma let Magtech know about this 10mm ammo and move on w Federal and Remington ammo only for this one I guess....
I feel your pain mine did the same thing as yours but I'am going to send it back to springfield to have it looked at i was trying to rack elite sig Sauer 180 gr fmj the gun like yours is brand new not one down pipe good luck
Get a 22lb recoil spring. It worked for me in mine. The federal is loaded super weak, it’s basically 40s&w and is a dam rip off. If I wanted .40s&w performance I’ll buy .40s&w. The magtech is very close to true 10mm. 1060 FPS (federal) vs 1230FPS (magtech)
This is exactly my experience with a brand new RIA Ultra HC. I was attempting to shoot Sellier&Bellot ammo. I talked to RIA about it and they suggested trying a different ammo. I had some Underwood 10MM and two mags. The first I loaded only four rounds, the second with a capacity 16. The results? Twenty rounds with no malfunctions. Because I had no problems previously with the S&B, I am thinking it will run in the RIA after a few hundred rounds of something else.
If you havent held the trp, know that it is truly a battle pistol, and really needs to be fired with gloves. What I mean is the checkering is incredibly aggressive and painful to use without gloves. Great gun and I recommend it just be aware of that.
Mine prefers Double Tap 230 grain. Had issues with lighter weight bullets and different brands also. I like to shoot old LP bottles {emty} at 50 yds Nice ring
Check on the barrel, it might need further throating and the frame ramp might need slight angle so the bullet head could slide snoothly into the barrel chamber.
Try running a heavier recoil spring and see if function improves. My Glock 20 was picky with the factory 17 pound spring. I put a 20 pound ISMI on a stainless guide rod, and it became a lot smoother and more reliable. The problem is that 10mm Auto comes in such a variety. If you run mostly the lighter stuff, a recoil spring in the 20 pound range could prove beneficial. If you step up to "true" 10mm Auto, which, lets be honest, you probably should if you're going to shoot 10mm Auto, then a 22 to 24 pound recoil spring might be appropriate, although that can make the pistol harder to operate. The 10mm Auto is worth the effort to get into, even if it means loading your own, and the 1911 is an older design that can take some breaking in. Give her a heavier spring and put 1000 rounds through her with it before you judge her too harshly.
Just got the exact same gun. Will not run Magtech!!! After the 2nd round it will not feed. I ran 100 rounds of Sig Elite through it just fine. Awesome gun, just wont run Magtech ammo through it. My Glock 20 will chew through that crap no problem. Thanks for the video.
Remove your barrel make sure the magtec amo easily drops into the chamber. I suspect the amo is light on powder , even in the video the blast report is softer on magtec. Are the ejected cases from the mag tech much closer to you than the amo that works? that's also an indicator . If so and If you really want to use mag tec it try dropping your recoil spring down 1lb. But There are more possible things to check but that's a start .
Not a huge fan of the Ambi safety on 1911’s. Just a personal preference. My first 1911 took a bit of time to run with every kind of ammo I put through it. Last few times I took it to the range, zero malfunctions. 🤷♂️
A few observations, first and formost I always expect a breakin period for a 1911, to let all the part mesh, and I do not count malfunctions during that 100-200 round breakin, as I expect them as parts mesh and smooth out from manufacturing. If it shoots flawless out of the box... frosting on the cake, but I don't expect it. 1. 10mm Commercial ammo runs from anemic to atomic. Most commercial ammo runs towards to anemic end, with 10mm 23# recoils springs will cause alot of issues. 2. 10mm runs from 115grn to 250grn bullets, and again due to loading levels, will cause issues 3. It appears to be a extractor tension issue that the rim is not getting under the extractor, add to that a possible stick new chamber in this video. 4. Always clean thoroughly a new gun, or you're asking for malfunctions from manufacturing oils or milling chips, or other build debris left behind. I ALWAYS expect to have to tune a 10mm to my load, due to the massive variety of bullets and ammunition out there.
I have the same pistol and have the same issues. After about 3200 rounds the gun still would not reliably cycle that particular ammo, nor would it reliably cycle Sellier and Bellott. Both of those bullet ogives are trapezoidal (if that counts for ogiveness), and 180 gr. Side by side, the Magtech and S&B looked identical. On the other hand, that pistol has shot everything else I've tried, without failure. I found Freedom Munitions sells ammo that is priced exactly the same as Magtech and S&B, but their bullets are RNFP - with emphasis on the round part. Additionally, both Magtech and S&B are very similar to Sig Sauer's elite bullets, but the Sig runs flawlessly through the pistol. The Sig has a similar bullet ogive, but the corners are rounded just a little bit, whereas the Magtech and S&B are not. I sent the gun back to Springfield and they polished the feed ramp, and that improved the feed of those two aforementioned bullets, but they never ran really 100% reliably. I eventually gave up that fight and just went with Freedoms.
I bet if you measured the casing diameter of the magtech with the Federals with a good quality digital calipers you'll see the Magtechs casings are probably out of spec. I noticed right away when you said in that last mag of Magtech that it feel sticky or tight even just chambering the round. That tells you everything.
Well hello there. It's been a minute. I figured you'd retired from the YT. Too bad about the cheaper ammo no working, but it seems some firearms are like that. It's still a nice looking piece. I hope the job's going well & everyone's doing good up your way, Nolan.
sharper2112 sorry but I think you maybe wrong. He had failures to feed. Not to extract! So what power has to do with anything here? I always test my 40s&w ammo on my glock 20. I’m running dpms recoil spring system at it so one day o bought some cheap Tullammo in 40 sw that i felt Rightway it was watered down shooting in my walther ppq 40 sw. so i tried on my Glock 20 with the springs system. It couldn’t extract the cases after firing not even once. Magtech i never had a hiccup with it.
Yea that would've been a bad day, haha! I think ive I were venturing in bear country Id rather have it loaded up with some Buffalo Bore or Underwood stuff.
@Caden Malcolm always remember, during a malfunction. Work that slide first, to get rid of that bad round. If you can’t get it to drop out, rip the magazine out than work the side again, and reload a fresh magazine on the street or just use the old one once you had a chance to check it out.

Did it get any better ?
I like your reviews man.
Does springfield still make the RO and TRP. I went to the web site and neither one is offered.
Neither is ambidextrous safety 🧐
Get a 22lb recoil spring. It worked for me in mine.
The federal is loaded super weak, it’s basically 40s&w and is a dam rip off. If I wanted .40s&w performance I’ll buy .40s&w. The magtech is very close to true 10mm.
1060 FPS (federal) vs 1230FPS (magtech)
Would've liked to see you do some more comparison between the two rounds, OAL might have been a tad longer on the MAGTECH.
Thanks for the video. Very educational 😊
Measure the size of the mag tech ammo. Bet it’s on the long side of tolerance.
I'm trying to decide between this and the trp 10mm.
If you havent held the trp, know that it is truly a battle pistol, and really needs to be fired with gloves. What I mean is the checkering is incredibly aggressive and painful to use without gloves. Great gun and I recommend it just be aware of that.
I got a youtube notification finally
Its been awhile, thanks for watching brother!
same shit I had, did u fix that
Mine prefers Double Tap 230 grain. Had issues with lighter weight bullets and different brands also.
I like to shoot old LP bottles {emty} at 50 yds Nice ring
Some pistols are just ammo sensitive.....Good stuff....
I just have 1911 ro elite operator 10mm and it’s jam every time can u just tell me the federal bullet plz
Brand new gun? Is it cleaned and lubed?
Good seeing you brother!
Thanks shojus, I appreciate ya watching brother!
My RO elite didn't like Sellier & Bellot 180gr. Same results you had with the magtech. It was also 100% with Federal.
Winchester silvertips was great through the MP10 millimeter HK submachine gun Hard hitting ammo reliable hard to find now
My kimber tle/rl II had the same issues with mag tech. A little tuning and she purrs like a kitten.
Dang that's just like my Delta Elite Railgun I had 😬
I bought the same pistol, had same problems. Bought a new mag, fixed the problem
Its like the 8th Springfield Armory 10mm video that I have seen with issues. Stay away from Magtech ammo. Had a Glock 29.....miss it.
But There are more possible things to check but that's a start .
good to see you brother nice choice love the 10mm, either the magtec is not hot enough or the OAL is wrong on that batch
Thanks for the video and take care
2. 10mm runs from 115grn to 250grn bullets, and again due to loading levels, will cause issues
I typed all that. Over just shitty ammo 😅
Sellior and belliot (however you say it) works best. I've never had any issues and I've run 100s of rounds through it. 10mm ammo can be tricky I guess
I bet if you measured the casing diameter of the magtech with the Federals with a good quality digital calipers you'll see the Magtechs casings are probably out of spec. I noticed right away when you said in that last mag of Magtech that it feel sticky or tight even just chambering the round. That tells you everything.
I am shooting Speer 155gr TMJ bullets in a Rock Island Ultra 10mm. No jams with the RIA pistol.
Where u been?
Had the same issue with my Springfield 1911 ro elite to
San po tau pwd makaoder nyan 10mm Springfield 1911
hope you are doing great man!
What caliber is a10 mm. Can any1 tell me
Have you tried shooting the 40 Smith & Wesson with this gun
Mag tec does a great job on revolver ammo explicitly they 32 long Smith the wessen hollow point but it doesn't do great in automatics
what is mag tec
/
Too bad your channel went silent
I would venture to say if the mag tech rounds were ran through a Lee Factory crimp die to do a final sizing to the case i bet they would chamber
SA crapped in their nest. It's too bad because they do make some good 1911s.
Well hello there. It's been a minute. I figured you'd retired from the YT.
Too bad about the cheaper ammo no working, but it seems some firearms are like that. It's still a nice looking piece.
I hope the job's going well & everyone's doing good up your way, Nolan.
It’s quite clear it’s not the guns fault. The MagTech ammo is obviously underpowered.
sharper2112 sorry but I think you maybe wrong.
Im going to pick up some hotter stuff to see if it performs any better which I assume it will. We will see.
Good thing you weren't being charged by a bear with the Magtechs.
Yea that would've been a bad day, haha! I think ive I were venturing in bear country Id rather have it loaded up with some Buffalo Bore or Underwood stuff.
"The rounds actually stuck in the chamber." No shit. Did you think beating the out of spec round into the chamber would make is looser?
He jammed the damn round instead of removing the mag first.
@Caden Malcolm always remember, during a malfunction. Work that slide first, to get rid of that bad round. If you can’t get it to drop out, rip the magazine out than work the side again, and reload a fresh magazine on the street or just use the old one once you had a chance to check it out.
@Caden Malcolm damn !! Be careful.
Bummer about the ammo partiality. It's a pretty gun for sure.
Had same issue with s&b ammo
Just crap ammo, you just don't need to post the video with this title unless you have validated the source of the failure.
Dude, Glock T shirt while reviewing a 1911...may JMB forgive you...
Please makes more videos
Where ya been dude. Hope all is well
