Judaism was unimpressive because Jews were scattered and had no country of their own.
Islam as a religion have harsh rules, and Slavs as a people love to be free of rules most of the time.
Latin Christianity was nicer option, but when you compared it to Orthodox Christianity...
I mean, just imagine the face of two envoys once they entered Hagia Sophia, saw all the icons on the walls and hearing Byzantine Chant.
Anyone would be mesmerized and impressed by that, even today a small Orthodox Church is much more impressive and beautiful inside than the grand Latin Cathedral.
And the Cyrillic alphabet helped a lot in that regard.

@Dick Kickem There isn't any truth in this world. Reality is only inside your mind and you can only experience it with your defective human senses. Humanity wont be able to understand the base truth for everything ever, and religions are just coping mechanisms to cope with this fact.
Only reality is what you want. Only thing to worship is your own truth, gained by your hard earned experiences and experiences you got from the people you look up to. Only reality is the one you perceive from these defective senses. Those defective senses are there so you can get whay you want and what you need to get happy. We wont be able to find the base truth about world because our perceptions, our character and our indviduals are our rights and wrongs. We are our temples and it is a most humble temple because it changes constantly, it doesnt rule the world by a constant set of rules. It changes with every mistake, we make both to ourselves and our loved ones. Its more flexible and more moral. Because what is moral before in middle ages cant be moral today, but a flexible persons morality can be moral at any time at any circumstance because it is INTENTIONAL. It isnt a trade to go to heaven, that person act moral because he/she really has a conscience.

@@Sidramsit1111 Ukraine it means in Russian "on the border", it is not a real nation,
the Poles in the 19th century when they invented the "Ukraine project" to separate Malorussia from Russia. It is a Germanic and ideological vision of the nation where the language is the vector which makes it possible to justify the birth of a nation ex-nihilo, as was the case for Prussia when it founded modern Germany on the debris. of the Habsburg Empire ............
The second project is the Bolshevik project of 1922, because it is the Bolsheviks who founded modern Ukraine and who impose the Ukrainian language on the peoples living within the borders defined by Lenin.
From the fifties, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic succeeded in making all these peoples live together and the Soviet propaganda which took up the myth of the Ukrainian people explains that the latter is a brother people of the Russian people ...... ....
The third project is the postmodern project, and it is the one that the West has supported. It starts from the principle that peoples have no historical existence. The Ukrainian people are neither banderists, nor descendants of glorious Rus' or of the Soviet Union, they are recreating themselves every day. This post-modern vision is defended in France by Raphaël Gluksman or Jacques Attali, it concerns the Ukrainian people as well as the French or Russian people. Of course, we don't make revolutions with these people, so Maidan and the West relied on the neo-Nazis, whom they have trouble getting rid of today. ......

This video contains two very unpleasant mistakes about Slavs, Bulgarians, and Bulgarian history.
    1. Old Church Slavonic language known also as Old Bulgarian is not based on west Slavic dialects, but on the south ones. St. Cyril and St. Methodius were Byzantine subjects from Thessaloniki who according to some historians learned Slavic language from the local south Slavs on the Thessaloniki's market, but there is speculation that their mother was from Slavic origin and that the Slavic language was their mother tongue. Their mission to the Great Moravia was unsuccessful and they didn't manage to influence the West Slavs very much. After the Christianization of Rus', and especially after the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule. as mentioned in the video, many Bulgarian scholars went to Russia and greatly influenced the East Slavic dialects. This is one of the reasons modern Bulgarian and Russian languages to be lexically much closer to each other than to the West Slavic languages, despite they also being from different branches of the Slavic languages.
    2. Despite the Bulgars who found the Bulgarian statehood to be a Turkik tribe, their subjects were predominantly Slavic. In this way, the Turkik Bulgars in the Bulgarian history are analogous to the Rus' Varangians in Russian history. They were just a ruling elite among the mainly Slavic population, who gave the name of the state. For that reason when the St. Cyril and St. Methodius disciples arrived in the First Bulgarian Empire under the rule of Prince Boris, the Slavic language was a natural fit for the official language of the state along with the fact that there was a need to limit the greek influence. Most probably back then there already had some intermixing between the Bulgars and the local Slavs, but with the acceptance of Christianity and adopting of the Slavic language as the official language of the state, the Bulgars were completely melded into the Slavs. From here we can make the conclusion that despite we the modern Bulgarians, like every other modern nation, are a mixture of different tribes from different origins, the Slavic component in us is the most strong one, and we are not just a Turkik tribe who accepted the Slavic culture as our own as the video suggests.

Even more important than having good relationships with other monotheist realms and merchants, was having an administrator class that could help you manage a rather large feudal realm with the help of accounting and a widespread communications network. Additionally this hierarchically organized network had a huge influence on peoples lives in a way that military presence or administrators didn't. Many historians think that, for 'tribal' societies, these were the most attractive aspects of converting to Islam or Christianity.

OCS was based on a South Slavic dialect, not the local Moravian dialects, and the reason Bulgarians speak a Slavic language today is not because OCS was introduced as a lithurgical language to Bulgaria, but because there were Slavic tribes that had settled in the Balkans whose language became the South Slavic dialect continuum.

Vladamir would have converted to "Catholic" Christianity as "Orthodox" being something separate from "Catholic" Christianity was not yet a thing ... but for the sake of modern understanding we know what the author means. By "Orthodox" he means Eastern Byzantine Catholic Christianity ... in contrast to Western "Roman Catholic" Christianity. Though the great schism was already in the making by this time - if the Eastern Churches were not yet out of communion with the Pope of Rome, then there was no "Eastern Orthodox" Church yet as we understand it today. Only the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of all time. Byzantine Catholics, Syrian Catholics, Roman Catholics, Egyptian Catholics, Christians of all color, creed, backgrounds, and cultures. SpyrosKos10 Cause it’s the Roman-Bulgar or Byzantine-Bulgar Wars Simple as that.
The Soldiers, Emperors And Commanders who fought the Bolghars/Bulgarians weren’t just Greeks. Nikephoros who got his skull taken was literally a Ghassanid Arab, Romanos Naval Commander Turned Emperor Lekapenos who made peace with Peter was Armenian.
The Soldiers were also multiethnic as the height of the Wars under Syemon made the Empire bring Troops not just from Greece and Western Anatolia But from the Eastern Themes in Eastern Anatolia And Western Armenia. Foderarti from the Serbs and Turkic Mercenaries from the Pechenengs/Cumans also formed contingents in the army. And in the Final War against Samuel The Norse Rus Varangian Guard fought under Basil ii.
So yes Greco-Bulgar Wars a name no academic uses is pretty cringe.

"Adopting Slavonic church tongue....which is one of the reasons why arguably Turkic Bulgarians speak a Slavic language today" That's a bit of a strange point to make, church services in catholic Europe were in Latin, those people didn't end up speaking Latin did they? Isn't it more likely that the Turkic Bulgars mixed with another ethnic group that heavily influenced the language over time? Possibly Slavs maybe?

8:12 There difference between "Catholic" and "Orthodox" here is only one of language of liturgical rites (Latin vs Greek) and who was considered the chief bishop in that part of the world (Pope of Rome vs Patriarch of Constantinople). There was some competition between the two for converting the Slavs. But they were still at that time both part of the universal Christian church, sharing the same communion and professing the same faith.

    • @johnfrancis6413

The question was not about the primacy of Peter . The eastern patriarch was fine with this concept . But the problem was the Emperor who was in the east involved himself in Church affairs by lobbying who would become the bishop so that he can exercise his influence on the people . This naturally was not welcomed by the Pope and he prepared to put an end to this and the patriarch of the east who kept supporting the Emperor obviously because he was his patron also got involved in this conflict and it resulted in a division.

9:16-10:05:,,They travelled to the lands of Great Moravia, where they learned the local western Slavic language, and created for it a written script, based on Greek letters, known as Glagolitic. Using their new alphabet as a cornerstone, they standardized many Western Slavic dialects into Old Church Slavonic, which became their new liturgical language. Now able to attend Church services in a tongue familiar to them, the Western Slavs were Christianized. The Catholic rite eventually prevailed in Moravia but Slavonic Christianity found success elsewhere. The Danubian Bulgars had converted to Greek Orthodox Chistianity in 864 but didn’t want to become too culturally dependent on their long-time Byzantine rivals.“ The alphabet was not created in Moravia. The Ss. Cyril and Methodius had already translated some of the Books of the Bible according to the long Life of St.Methodius - the four Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles in Old Church Slavonic and in the Glagolitic script, before they arrived in Moravia in 863. So when they went there, they brought translated texts in Old Chuch Slavonic, wherefore that language has nothing to do with Western Slavic dialects. Old Church Slavonic is based on the south Slavic dialects, more precisely on the language of the Slavs from Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia - that includes the Slavs within the Bulgarian kingdom and the Slavs around and in Thessaloniki which was a part of the Byzantine empire. Cyril and Methodius were natives of Thessaloniki and in the Vita longis of St.Methodius by St.Clement of Ochrid the emperor Michael says to Cyril that no one except him can do the job (i.e. the fulfillement of the appeal of king Rostislav to Michael that the emperor send him a man who could explain the Holy Scrupture to the Slavs) and also tells him to take his brother together with himself because they are Thessalonians and all Thessalonians speak Slavic purely. Therefore they spoke that Slavic language which became the foundation of Old Church Slavonic. So they most likely had at least partial Slavic origin.
The following is not due to the clarification of some facts, not for any nationalistic or reasons of some superiority claims etc. But nevertheless I hope I do not open the Pandora box. 10:05-10:19:,,As a result they welcomed the disciples of Cyril and Methodius into their lands, adopting the Slavonic church tongue over Byzantine Greek as the official language of their people which is one of the reasons why arguably the Turkic Bulgarians speak a Slavic speak a Slavic tongue today.“ The other and more important reason that I am surprised was not mentioned, is that the majority of the population was Slavic. That is why Church Slavonic was adopted as the official and state language. If Slavic was not spoken by the majority of the population, it would not eventually become the dominant language. The two peoples - the Bulgars and the Slavs intermingled as the name of the Bulgars prevailed while in terms of the language it was that the Slavic language that eventually prevailed. So a new people was formed with a Slavic language and a non-Slavic name - ,,Bulgars“. (Analogically, the ethnonym Rus does not have a Slavic origin but that does not mean that teh Russians are not Slavs. They still are Slavs.) And so, since all of its speakers started calling themselves Bulgars, their Slavic-language started to be called Bulgarian following the name of its speakers, i.e. from the beginning of the 11th century on. From then on Bulgarian meant not the language of the ancient Bulgars who founded the Bulgarian state but the Slavic language of the newly formed people with the non-Slavic name ,,Bulgars“. That is the reason why Old Bulgarian is used as a synonym of Old Church Slavonic which was adopted as the official liturgical and state language in 893 CE. In the Bulgarian sources, including the vitas from the late 9th and early 10th centuries it was called ,,Slavonic“. In the later sources, for example in Vita longis of St.Clement of Ochrid who was one of Ss.Cyril and Methodius’s disciples who came to Bulgaria in 885, by the archbishop of Ochrid Theophylact (1055-1107) it is called ,,Bulgarian“ and St.Clement is called ,,a first bishop of the Bulgarian language“. Demetrios Chomatianos who was an archbishop of Ochrid between 1216 and 1234, writes in his Vita brevis of St.Clement of Ohcrid which was written in Ochrid (and according to which Clement originated from the Bulgarian people, i.e. from the Bulgarian Slavs within Bulgaria who in the 9th century had not yet adopted the ethnonym ,,Bulgar“) the following about Clement:,,Together with the divine Naum, Angelarius and Gorazd, he was the first to diligently study the Holy Scriptures, translated with divine assistance in the local Bulgarian dialect by Cyril, a true God-wise and a father equal to the Apostles, and yet in the beginning was with Methodius, the famous teacher of the Moesian people.“ As it was mentioned, the base of the Old Church Slavonic was the language of the Slavs from Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia and the three provinces were part of the Bulgarian kingdom at the time, although not the whole of Macedonia was and the Slavs in and around Thessaloniki were not part of the Bulgarian kingdom. As it was said, with time as the Bulgars and Slavs intermingled and a new people was formed - a Slavic speaking with a non-Slavic name and the name ,,Bulgars“ was preserved and prevailed around the end of the 10th century and the beginning of the 11th century, in Bulgaria the language came to be called Bulgarian from the 11th century on. That language evolved in time as any language and there was a period of Middle Bulgarian (12th to 16th centuries) after which begins the period of Modern Bulgarian. In comparison with the modern Bulgarian and middle Bulgarian is the 9th-11th century Bulgarian considered to be Old Bulgarian.

You got it wrong about Cyril, Methodus and Old Bulgarian.
Cyril and Methodius were Byzantine nobles of Slavic origin, born and raised in Thessaloniki. They based the glagolitsa around the local Slav dialect, which at that point was intelligible to all Southern Slavs and probably also to the Western Slavs, Moravians among them.
The Danubian Bulgarians had at that point almost coalesced into the single nation that is modern Bulgarians. It comprised of the Protobulgars, whose origin and language is a highly contested topic still far from being settled, and their Slav allies, which had become more numerous with time, as Bulgaria conquered more lands populated with Slavs. Hence, at the time of Cyril and Methodius, the lingua franca in Bulgaria was a Slavic Language. They didn't adopt the language of the Moravians, it was already there, or at least a mutually intelligible version of Slavic, which at that point had only just begun to branch off in the three big subtrees we have today.
Cyril and Methodius' disciples continued the work of the two brothers in Bulgaria, where they invented the new alphabet and called it Cyrillic in honor of their teacher. Old Church Slavonic was simply the Old Bulgarian from that time, which remained largely unchanged as a lithurgic language, whereas "normal" Bulgarian continued to naturally evolve as all languages do.
