a musician drumming with rhythm and creativity, makin a solo behind the skin interesting, vivid. i feel i am listening to music, not only fast and loud boom boom.
Anyone who even suggests that Peter Criss isn't an excellent drummer hasnt seen him live and heard his drum solos. Very underrated as a drummer and much maligned!
To say he wasn't a great soloist must make me think you're one of those guys who thinks a good drum solo has to have double bass blowing your face off or it isn't good. This solo is dynamic, jazzy, has tons of feeling, heart and soul --- AND his endurance rocks like you said. A style like his is hard to find. I can't imagine how anyone could speak critically of this guy, unless they think drumming is a contest. Just my two cents worth.
Agreed, Peter was heavily influenced by Gene Krupa. Go and listen to a few of his Solo's for a better perspective/context. You'll definitely see his influence here. Peter was great in the 70's and drumming is not a contest.
But, this was 77 and nobody is talking about the Dynasty tour!!! The key is he looks amazing here in this drum solo, it just shows like any of his solos from 74 thru 78 he was an absolute beast and awesome!!! Go Peter
@@ACETYGRA true 77 love gun was kiss,s peak in the 70,s so for Peter. In 79 he really started to go hill but dam he was everything for kiss in the beginning. The one and only catman. Yeah I know Eric is way better but he was always held back by Gene and Paul
Peter Criss inspired me to play drums when i first heard them. I was playing since 5 yrs old, and heard KISS at 10 yrs old . That was when i first heard them. He was my first idol, and i wanted to be him. All i knew then was that i loved listening to KISS and he was the greatest drummer on the planet
I remember first seeing Kiss on a poster for the first time at my cousins home when I was about 5 years old around 1977. I remember it was a poster of them on stage in concert and it scared me. But I couldn't stop looking at it though. And that my friend is when I became a KISS fan. Thanks Marty
Man did you ever hear drum solos by Thomas Lang Tony Roaster jr Dennis champers Virgil donati Chris cole Carmine appice I could go on all night check out a real drum solo with flangers and effects
@@youngfeller5376 true fact. He was average on a good night. Rushed the tempo too much, repetitive boring fills, and never was capable of being consistent - unable to even replicate his own stuff accurately. Honestly, none of the initial band were great musicians. Ace was the closest with his unique style. Later Carr and Bruce Kulick and even Singer probed to be far superior musicians
Peter Criss is very underrated. I don't hear too many people bring his name up with the greatest drummers of all time talks but he is. His timing is perfect and his solos are tribal and raw. Paul and Gene always take the attention but Peter Criss is one of my favorites.
You gave no idea what your talking about . Peter was not consistently good . I head him on the reunion tour he was hitting hard , sounding awesome , but I saw other shows where Peter’s timing was terrible . Just listen to this solo , put a click on the video the timing slows and speeds up . I do give Peter credit for being a big part of making Kiss one of the biggest bands around , his drumming was different then most other hard rock drummers making Kiss sound special
He is certainly not on the list of great drummers because he is not a great drummer . I would admit he did inspire many great drummer to play drum . He was in one of the best band around playing to thousands of people , everything sound great , he was a big part of their unique sound . You don’t have to be a master great drummer to sound good in a band
Agree with other reply. His timing is not good at all. And I really doubt he could play with a click. Poor guy. I am not a hater, but he isn’t underrated at all.

I have no idea why Peter Chris is constantly getting disrespected. He was a fantastic drummer, was lucky enough to see him live back in the day and he blew me away !
To have your musicianship stand out and stand the test of time over all these effects says A LOT. His drum sets were massive for the time and all drummers were looking to see what Peter did. @@franksaladino3938: It's well known that Peter Criss, Jerry Nolan (New York Dolls), among other drummers of the time, took drum lessons from Krupa. You can put down Criss all you want. But the fact remains that Criss was the perfect percussion sound for KISS in the 70's, not to mention his vocals and character also. Without Criss, KISS doesn't become what they did. Criss also influenced countless drummers from around the world in the 70's. Tell me? How many drummers did you influence from around the world? How many $Millions did you make playing drums and singing? How many drum magazines were you featured in? lol.
Peter or Jerry Nolan absolutely did not take private lessons from Gene Krupa I worked with Gene for three years he never taught he did have a drum school with jazz drummer Cozy Cole in NYC , so maybe they went to that school , but private lesson from Gene never. I studied with Jim Chapin I know Peter took a few lessons from Jim , but Gene no way believe me Gene did not teach anybody

Awesome drumming it's even more complicated by what even most drummers would think with the beats and techniques and that kind of stamina is simply amazing
I agree Paul could talk out of his ass like Gene . I think Peter is a weak drummer, but he did some different drumming and a big part of what made Kiss a unique band , different sounding band
Paul Stanley may have been correct about many things, but what he lost was appreciation for Peter Criss. This dude was good drummer, but more than that, he was showman, just like the rest of the band. What made this band great was their ability to share the stage. What destroyed this band was ego. Long live the members of Kiss from the kid who has loved them since he was sixteen. He is 60 now. 🎉
I followed Kiss thru high school, had never heard this solo. Surprising how many elements remind me of Peart solos. Definitely more skill shown here than you’d glean from their song tracks.
Way underrated, in my opinion if he was in another famous band he would get more recognition, because a lot of people didn’t take kiss seriously, But they were my fave’s!! My first album I ever bought was Dressed to kill when it was first released, I delivered a lot of newspapers for it!!

Peter wasnt the most technical drummer ever but he didn’t need to be. He was PERFECT for KISS. Neil Peart would have sounded like crap playing with Gene Simmons. ALL music has merit and ALL musicians have talent. But not all music and musicians are the same and THAT is what makes discovering mother music so awe inspiring. My 1st concert ever 8 yo. KISS ALIVE II MADISON SQ GARDEN. In the middle of the show, all of a sudden, a plexi-glass sheild closed arrond PC. He was surrounded by fireworks, and just beat the living sh*t out of those drumms. The wildest thing I've ever seen to this day. Even this solo doesnt come close. Why oh why did he leave the band so early...maybe it had something to do with that f'ing chick Beth.
i saw kiss live in something like 1976or 1977. in the drum solo criss's entire drum platform rose up and was extended by a mechanical out over the audience as he played.
How in the bloody @&!#% hell could Paul "The Narcissist" Stanley EVER publicly state that Peter Criss couldn't hold a song together with his playing ?? And that it was HE that had to 'instruct' Pete how to drum to certain songs. Asinine !!! I've claimed it from the mountain top before and I'll claim it AGAIN .......I went from KISS Army member in the beginning to not giving one shit about their career once Peter and Ace were disbanded. The very two that really mattered during the early years. I believe that Mr. Egotistical ( Gene ) and Mr. Narcissist ( Paul ) were "afraid" that Ace and Peter were the more popular of the four. Just IMO !!!!

@@franksaladino3938 I'm a drummer, I'm not a fan of 2 bass drum usage. Look what Peter did with 1 bass drum in his kit.
If I think this solo is good you got go on RUclips put in Thomas Lang , Mike Mangini, Billy Cobbham , Virgil Donati , Greg Bissonette, Tony Royster Jr , Eric Moore , Sonny Emory , Dennis Chambers , Terry Bosio, Chris Kowal, Chad Wakeman, Butch miles, Rufus speedy Jones, duff Jackson I could name 100 more guys that have solos if you think the Peter Criss solo is good these guys will knock you out enjoy the videos
@@franksaladino3938 How about Danny Seraphine on "I'm A Man" on the 1969 album. I believe top Pop Rock drummers have a better sense of what the audience wants to hear: Bonham, Moon, Peart, Copland, Collins, Henley, Baker, Palmer, Bruford, Starr, Watts, etc....
peter criss is in my opinion the best he was there when it all started he helt start and gave birth to the catman :)
Great solo, really. He put a lot of passion in this.
I am woman and i never played any instrument but i have been able tô understand that Peter hás an unique style soft, criative, Hard at same time with extraordinary non boring Drums solo using literally all pieces of a drums like nobody else. He knows how tô play and explore full equipment making good music only with a drums but then he sings too
PERFECT MUSICIAN❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cannot deny the Catman had his day 🤟😝🥁
Yeah I was at the Alive II tour concert December 30 1977 in Atlanta GA. Great solo great band best show I ever attended.
Keep rocking brothers and sisters of the K I ⚡⚡ Army ✌️🤘

Best Kiss drummer ever! period. Nobody else fit with Kiss music as much as Peter! In the seventies he was a real force!
Livetowin65 only member I would put up with Peter would have to be Eric, he could thrash
Yeah, he was a force. We were forced to listen to his garbage playing. I have nothing against him at all, I like Kiss but his playing drives me crazy.
@Scott Stevens Peter is the best and if you don't like him, your obviously not a real kiss fan. Your dumber than I thought xD
I agree Peter was a big part of what made Kiss sound different , but he was a weak drummer
As much as I liked Peter, musically Eric Carr was their best drummer.
a musician drumming with rhythm and creativity, makin a solo behind the skin interesting, vivid. i feel i am listening to music, not only fast and loud boom boom.
This in itself qualifies as it's own song in its construction.
Anyone who even suggests that Peter Criss isn't an excellent drummer hasnt seen him live and heard his drum solos. Very underrated as a drummer and much maligned!
I really don't care who the best drummer actually is but to me the best of the best will always and forever be PETER CRISS
Neal Peart......
@@jamiecarter5083 peta criss baybeee
To say he wasn't a great soloist must make me think you're one of those guys who thinks a good drum solo has to have double bass blowing your face off or it isn't good. This solo is dynamic, jazzy, has tons of feeling, heart and soul --- AND his endurance rocks like you said. A style like his is hard to find. I can't imagine how anyone could speak critically of this guy, unless they think drumming is a contest. Just my two cents worth.
He sounds good here but as drug and alcohol addiction got to him he started to deteriorate. He was a disaster on the Dynasty tour of 79.
Go Peter
He was awsome great drum solo.
Stil ... one of the 3 best ever played live drum solos ever! Yeah, like a Cat on the drums !!!
You rock it, Peter !!!
Man did you ever hear drum solos by Thomas Lang Tony Roaster jr Dennis champers Virgil donati Chris cole Carmine appice I could go on all night check out a real drum solo with flangers and effects
@@franksaladino3938 none of these people can be drummers cause he was always mediocre. Of Kiss's 5 drums I would rate him a distant 5th
Peter made more money
@@kennajohnson6175 with what and in comparison to whom?
@@youngfeller5376 true fact. He was average on a good night. Rushed the tempo too much, repetitive boring fills, and never was capable of being consistent - unable to even replicate his own stuff accurately. Honestly, none of the initial band were great musicians. Ace was the closest with his unique style. Later Carr and Bruce Kulick and even Singer probed to be far superior musicians
Not sure how audio was done in the 70's, but I love the raw grainy sound this show has.
You are full of shit!!! Peter was amazing and great!!!!
@@franksaladino3938 Being a great drummer doesn't mean your Bonham or Cobham. Criss was a great drummer. One of the best of all time? No. But was he great. Yes he was a damn good drummer. People like you dont allow people to like what they like and think technicality is more important than the music.
I don't give a second thought to what the critics or other band -members say! I think Peter Chris should be considered as one of the greatest drummers of all time!
Yessss
Yes he is the best!! FUCK THE HATERS!!
Influential? yes. Greatest? No. Not even the best drummer KISS has had.
@mike m I'd like to see you try tough boy (;
I agree, Peter hit the sticks as good as anybody, fact period!!!
Amazing.
I have no idea why Peter Chris is constantly getting disrespected. He was a fantastic drummer, was lucky enough to see him live back in the day and he blew me away !
peter is simply the best
No words Brilliant!
To have your musicianship stand out and stand the test of time over all these effects says A LOT. His drum sets were massive for the time and all drummers were looking to see what Peter did. Everything we have now in regards to live drum rock performance is because he raised the bar with every single tour.
This sure is better than Gene's bass solo 🙄
Genes solos suck. My cat can play better
The one and only '' Catman ''
Nope. Not the only.

Singer has always been original even while wearing the cat makeup. He has always had his own stage presence and own style which is far superior to Peter.
the guy that got me to sing and play drums
Wow🤘🔥

I really enjoy P C's drumming
Peter did absolutely nothing after Kiss if he was so great why didn’t he do anything with al his greatness Ace had a good career after Kiss
@@franksaladino3938 Did not stop me from enjoying this drum solo, stop putting the down on Peter for Gods sake.
Excelente sólo de Peter Criss
Drum Solo reminds me of Buddy Rich listen to the Jazz fills Peter is playing real stuff man
It's actually Gene Krupa who Criss studied under.
Your laughable Buddy Rich REALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peter is a weak rock drummer at best Most of this drum solo is terrible using flangers to improve the sound Please listen to Buddy and tell me he sounds like Peter LAUGHABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@MGB18 Peter did not study under Gene Krupa
I studied with Jim Chapin I know Peter took a few lessons from Jim , but Gene no way believe me Gene did not teach anybody
that's. it peter criss never ever nobody has been played. the drums like yuo.
Gene Krupa style of drum solo. One of Peter's biggest influences.
ONE OF MY FAV ALL TIME DRUMMER THE VERY FIRST DRUMMER I EVEN HEARD ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I CHOSE THE DRUMS LOVE THIS PETER IS A AWESOME DRUMMER AND SINGER
Incredible video!!! Long Live Rock!!!
Peter was one of the best 70s drummers.
Awesome drumming it's even more complicated by what even most drummers would think with the beats and techniques and that kind of stamina is simply amazing
The 3rd best drummer after Buddy Rich and Ian Paice. Very underrated.
I hope that's a joke?
He will always be my favorite catman
He’s not so bad, the way Paul talks about him you would think he couldn’t play anything.
Paul is an asshole
I agree Paul could talk out of his ass like Gene . I think Peter is a weak drummer, but he did some different drumming and a big part of what made Kiss a unique band , different sounding band
Peter is not even close to a weak drummer? He was absolutely awesome and super talented and underappreciated and fantastic!!! 🐱🐱
Paul sucks
@@franksaladino3938 loooool.
I’m not a fan of drum solos never have been, but I gotta say back in the day nobody could pull off a drum solo like criss.
I followed Kiss thru high school, had never heard this solo. Surprising how many elements remind me of Peart solos. Definitely more skill shown here than you’d glean from their song tracks.
Whoever said this guy can’t smack a head is crazy..
Way underrated, in my opinion if he was in another famous band he would get more recognition, because a lot of people didn’t take kiss seriously, But they were my fave’s!! My first album I ever bought was Dressed to kill when it was first released, I delivered a lot of newspapers for it!!
When I was a kid back in the 70's, I wanted to be a drummer because of Peter, I became one... it was Peter Criss, Neal Peart, and Nicko McBrain to inspired me to be a drummer.
2 of them guys were great great drummers. The other just painted his face
@@youngfeller5376 Peter Criss is a good drummer, but this was back in the 70s, I was a kid, so it was still inspiring,,,,no need to sh*t all over my comment.

Totally digging this.
i like this one its great
his ability to keep a rhythm consistent through his entire solo is seriously mindboggling
Go Peter and the KISS Army!
Being a drummer is ALL about endurance and Peter Kriss had tons of it!!!
criss ffs
awsome love the fiberglass drums
Peter wasnt the most technical drummer ever but he didn’t need to be. He was PERFECT for KISS. Neil Peart would have sounded like crap playing with Gene Simmons. ALL music has merit and ALL musicians have talent. But not all music and musicians are the same and THAT is what makes discovering mother music so awe inspiring. Years of blood sweat and tears comes down to a 3 minute solo…..that’s ROCK and ROLL!! That’s why we LOVE it…..that’s why we LIVE it!!!
Love him ! Now. That's how you play drums!! # 1
best drummer ever and will always be
I'm a big Kiss fan, but absolutely not.

Stupid kid.
Simplly the best..ringo starr, tupper headon and peter criss.❤❤❤❤❤
and i will say one more thing about peter his drum style helped drummers that wanted to play, learn to play,it broke them in, so good or bad he was a influence on alot of people in the early days. and the one who want to say pissy things about him and kiss, go ahead but they are laughing at you on the way to the bank, lol
Amazing
Notice how precise he is and stamina, you try doing this for this long!!! Catman baby
The one and only
ace is awesomw too!!
Why oh why did he leave the band so early...maybe it had something to do with that f'ing chick Beth.
peter is awesome then and now
Awesome!
One of my 3 favorite drummers Neil Peart, Peter Criss and Mike Botts of Bread.
Peter Criss is the OG of KISS and always will be......
I just can't comment right now? I was a KISS ARMY Member in 76 at the age of 10, Woohoo ty for this.....Peace
I love KISS
Saw them in 99' i was soo excited to see Peters drum solo live it was awesome 🤟🤟🤘
The catman!!! The king of the jungle!!! ROCK N' ROLL!!!!

Hard to stomach that KISS went from this to "I Was Made for Loving You."
Excellent
Saw this live in "77" Spokane Coliseum, Spokane WASHINGTON ( Cheap Trick opened for them)!
very many drum solos sounds very similar to me, especially those made by hard rock drummers. This solo has orginality and surprises, i think.
ok parasite Peter back in the day would always drum what he was feeling
Best drum solo still in my opinion and best dam drummer ever existed
i saw kiss live in something like 1976or 1977. in the drum solo criss's entire drum platform rose up and was extended by a mechanical out over the audience as he played.
Peter Criss is Da best the legend of all time
How in the bloody @&!#% hell could Paul "The Narcissist" Stanley EVER publicly state that Peter Criss couldn't hold a song together with his playing ?? And that it was HE that had to 'instruct' Pete how to drum to certain songs. Asinine !!! I've claimed it from the mountain top before and I'll claim it AGAIN .......I went from KISS Army member in the beginning to not giving one shit about their career once Peter and Ace were disbanded. The very two that really mattered during the early years. I believe that Mr. Egotistical ( Gene ) and Mr. Narcissist ( Paul ) were "afraid" that Ace and Peter were the more popular of the four. Just IMO !!!!
Great Drummer
