If you're stressing about SAT scores and your GPA I'd honestly tell you all that's not all UW wants. I was just accepted with a 3.0 and my SAT scores were pretty low. I'm not saying they don't care about it but there are other ways to present yourself! For me, I completely messed up my first year in high school, failed a class both semesters and continued to be a c - average student. I switched schools and decided I want to change and it took some time too but I slowly began to get all A's and a few B's then added an AP class Junior year. I then got involved with leadership some clubs and while not getting a named spot I was highly involved in ASB. Moral of the story don't worry too much about scores and your GPA if they can see that you are trying and are involved! Your essay is a huge part, brag about yourself!
dr3amgrl I actually only took one AP class which was landuage arts lmao. Throughout hs I did leadership, AVID and my senior year I took a CNA class at Puget sounds skills center. Being more involved with other things will definitely help!
I just recently found your videos like about a week ago- I’ve been looking into UW for forever and never really found any videos that gave me hope to even apply and finding your channel was literally the greatest 😭💖💖💖💖 thank you so much for making this- it was really helpful and seriously motivated me!
This video was incredibly insightful! For the first two years of high school I had around a 3.3-.4 GPA but in my junior and senior years, I was in the running start program and got a 3.7 GPA. I also participated in many extra curricular activities and volunteered, unfortunately I got waitlisted from the UW :( I should hear a response pretty soonish so please cross your fingers or pray for me!! It scares me just thinking about it but I’m trying to stay optimistic and focus on the University of Oregon (which was #2 on my college decisions list). Thanks for sharing your experience :)
Dang I’m in running start and currently have a 3.7 too so now I’m nervous (I’m only a junior though so I haven’t applied yet) what was your sat score? Just curious
Thanks for this. I'm a junior, and was slightly panicking about my GPA being a 3.5, and was super unmotivated until I saw this. Gonna be sure I study real hard to raise it and work hard this summer on my application and get good SAT ACT scores! 😊
Mini Momo I’m a senior with a 3.5 and SAT of 960 and ACT 19 and I still got in UW. Grades aren’t everything when applying to UW. The essay questions matter the most!
Gabriela Gomez can you please tell me what your extracurriculars were and what your essay was about? i have around a 3.4, im a 3 sport athlete, as well as a running start student. i did band, leadership, and a lot of community/volunteer hours. do you think that is enough?
@@GabrielaGomez-ge2nq Thank you so much for this! Really encouraging to see this, especially with what's going on right now. Congratulations on getting in to UW! :D
Just stumbled across this when wanting to transfer to UW, this gave me hope. I was feeling pretty down and doubtful about this but this helped me out a lot
My GPA was a 3.5 unweighted and my SAT 1570 I did horrible on freshman I didn't focus on grade neither cared about it. From sophomore to senior I did my best, I took summer school, extracurricular, AP, IB, honor classes. I studied so much for SAT and I took 3 subjects texts which I got higher than 750. I had hope to get to Harvard or Standford but I didn't. There was one hope left UW and this college is just amazing. I love UW college.
@@kadiehernandez5865 oh factssss rlly? UW is my dream school, I’m a senior too right now ahah. I thought since it said 2 years ago that you were a senior 2 years ago. Myb i interpreted that wrong. Good luck though!
I just got back from Transfer Thursday and I'm sure now UW is where I want to be! The campus is so dreamy with its traditional university grandeur! Suzallo especially... I hope to be there next fall! Thanks for this vid and I hope you're really really enjoying your time there! :)
So like I have a 3.804 unweighted gpa, and I’m a junior and by the end of high school I’d have taken 6 AP classes, 2 honors classes and 3 years of world language. I’ve played tennis for 2 years and plan on playing senior year, and I’ve also played soccer for 3 years on varsity and plan to play senior year. I don’t participate in clubs in my school but I volunteer at soup kitchens, help at an adoption center in my home country in Ecuador when we go, worked with my dad over the summer and will work with him again, participated in the school play of the Lion King in 7th grade, and played the clarinet until I stopped. My SAT scores aren’t the most amazing, but I’ve heard UW isn’t taking them for fall of 2021, so like I don’t know what are the chances now.
If i have a 3.7 unweighted and 32 ACT, could i get scholarship money? UW is my dream but money will inevitably limit my choices. I need the debt to be manageable
I'm a rising senior and the common app opened up 3 days ago. So I'm freaking out. I recently found out about University of Washington and want to major in either bio or psych. UoW is getting to the top of my list, I just hope I can afford it if I was admitted lol. I wish price wasn't as big of a factor. I leave right next to NYC so it would be a big move too! Anyways thank you for the video!
TBH, UW has variety of accepted students. I know few people who had 4.0 unweighted GPA and finished #1 in the class and also few people who had gpa below 3.0. Clearly it is not about number.
Congrats to all you guys watching this who are going to UW this year! There’s actually a program for new UW students to get in touch with other huskies and get advice from upperclassmen. Here’s a link to the Summer LIFT program if you’re interested!:@t

Hi, Eliana! Greeting from Mexicooo! I honestly think you resume will look bomb with all of those activities, I wouldn't be nervous tbh (however, if you find the opportunity to volunteer for some local activity I recommend you sign up so you have more to show in your resume). You seem like you cover many different areas, all the way from academic to sports, that's so great!! Just make sure your essays are at their top best so that way you'll be all set in all the areas UW keeps an eye on --grades, essays and resume. I just graduated from high school and got into UW, phew. I'll tell you my resume so you have an idea of my background: 4.0 gpa, took 3 AP's, team leader of multiple clubs (NHS, robotics, and women empowerment in STEM), volunteered as most as i could (handed out water in a marathon, helped people at a local rehab center, visited sick children at a children's hospital, danced in my school's arts festival), won academic awards throughout my years in hs, won awards in track and field competitions, and was part of my school's travel, and investigation club, 1210 sat (yeah, not so great :/). One more thing, try getting involved in activities (like clubs and such) related to your desired major so that way UW knows you know more about that area than other people who are applying to the same major. For instance, I applied for the college of engineering and my resume shows I was already in a robotics team and empowered women to study STEM. They'll be a nice addition to your student profile. To sum it all up, you're doing awesomeeee Eliana (when I was a sophmore I was just in the women STEM club haha) so don't worry about it!! But of course don't forget how picky UW is, so keep on doing what you're doing. Good luck!!
I have a weighted 3.9 GPA and I'm in bowling and cross country, as well as the yearbook committee and I'm planning on taking over the school's GSA once I return as a senior in the fall. However because of coronavirus I was only able to take the ACT and only once where I got a 26. Any help as to whether you'd think I'd get in, especially regarding that test scores have been set to optional submission for UW? Thanks sm xx
Yay thanks for doing this girl 💗😊 I’m really scared because even though I’m going for my AA degree while doing running start and am going to transfer to whatever uni I’ve been doing online school since 6th grade & have zero extracurriculars except volunteering at SCH since last year. My HS grades are meh but I’ve kept a cumulative gpa of a 4.0 during RS so I’m praying that will help... I live very close to UW, do you have any other advice?? Thanks again!
You got this boo! Just remember that colleges tend to push towards holistic decision making so it's not just about one thing more specifically over the other! But I do recommend dabbling in whatever you can not just for college apps but for personal experience as well! I definitely recommend just doing your best and have fun while in the process 🙂
What if you mess up first semester freshman year but get 3.75-4 gpa every semester after. 11 ap classes and 12 honor classes. I’m really stressing out idk if this is enough for engineering?
I’m a transfer & I applied to UW & the wait is killer. The notification period is around June/July which is SO late. I’m worried if I got in I wouldn’t get housing & commuting would not be an option. Do you know if Transfers get housing & if so do they get immediately put in dorms or the apartments? As far as the application process, for transfers it was easy & only took me a couple of hours, which sounds so different from the freshman application.
Hi Im a senior in hs planning to be a transfer student to uw, if you dont mind talking about his I was wondering how the application process was as a transfer, Im scared that once I apply as a transfer ill get rejected :/ and any general advice
Chantal Are you planning to go to community college & transfer? Because that’s what I did. The app process is really easy. Once you get over a certain amount of credits you don’t need to submit SAT or ACT’s all you need is to fill out the app, write an essay (super easy, it’s just talking about you) & send in your transcripts from HS & College. If you want to know more on the process I highly recommend going on College Confidential & look at UW threads. Theres threads on almost every topic & there is a freshman 2022 & a transfer thread where we all talk about things related to the whole process. It’s very helpful.
Thanks for the video. Congrats on getting into UW. My daughter Jr. starting in Aug.; UW is near Top of her list. She is an aspiring Biochemist that wants to live on the West Coast. We live in Chicago area. Are you from WA? UW sounds like an amazing university. Best of luck to you in the future.
Ah thank you! UW would be a great school for her as it is known for its STEM program and research! I am originally from WA and decided to stay in my home state for school. But good luck to you guys on your endeavors! Cheers xx
Patrick Mattes ...my son will be a Sr. in HS & so we’re just getting started in this research. I’m from the Midwest...& we’ve unfortunately (haha) have lived in Seattle area for a decade plus. Just curious...what did she decide? My son wants engineering, but so difficult to get into at UW.
Applied like months ago but I have a 3.2 uw gpa with 7 APs including senior year. Feel like my chances are really low. Think Washington state will accept?
Do you think I can have to opportunity to apply to UW if I improve my GPA scores? (Here are my GPA scores - Freshman Year (3.083) 2019-2020 // Sophmore year (2.723) 2020-2021 // and I'm currently I'm a junior in Shelton high school with a rank of a 2.830 GPA 2021-2022) I'm highly disappointed in failing to get the same GPA score or better than my freshman year, and im hoping to do better next year. The thing is that im not sure if they will accept me because of my low GPA scores and grades on my high school transcript. Please, what do you advise me to do?
my weighted gpa is 4.18, unweighted is 3.935. i don’t have that many extracurriculars, Marching band, in school environmental club, a job, some community service, not a lot. would’ve been more without covid :(, i decided not to include my test scores because of covid, i’ll come back next month to say if i got in, crossing my fingers.
Yo I messed up hard my freshmen and sophomore year but I started to get my act together junior year at the end of sophomore year my GPA was probably around a 2.6 and my current extra curricula’s are cross country, mariachi, and tennis do I have a chance or should I just move on?
i definitely think you should consider community college, uw applications say the absolute bare minimum is 3.0, your best bet would be transferring in. best of luck to you on this - you will do well :)
im kind of in the same predicament, the best gpa i could possibly end up with is like a 3.2 or 3.5. i don’t think my sat scores will break 1200 but i have tons of extracurriculars & a few AP classes. uw is literally my dream school
Ack Im super young and UW is kinda my dream school. I live in Asia and ya know its kinda hard moving to another continent willy-nilly. Im not in high school yet and am planning to join choir, chess and art if possible. I recently calculated my GPA (Im not advanced or anything) and hold a solid-ish 3.7. If all goes well do you think I could get in?
You’d have to definitely wait and see how you do in High School. However, I will say, if you keep working really really hard and join a lot of clubs at school and volunteer, you should have a pretty good chance. Hoping for the best for you!
I will be a junior this fall and I did pretty well freshman year with only a couple B's the entire year but then sophomore year I slipped up and only got a 3.03 weighted GPA but redeemed myself second semester and finished with a 3.75 weighted GPA. If I work really hard the next two years and earn 4.0s each year will I have a good chance of getting in? I've wanted to go to this school forever
I have a 3.0 gpa, I’m a hs freshman im planning on joining the soccer team and Muslim student association next year. I’m doing a program in my city which gives us job experience
Ahhhh very important to bring that gpa up and become president of MSA! Itll be very good as you will have an upwards trend in your transcript. Honestly high school grades aren’t everything but it gets your foot in the door. You don’t wanna be in your senior year stressing because you earned a 3.0 through your 4 years! Trust me ! Do as much as you can in high school and it’ll all work out as it should. Good luck to you!
@@abdulwahabmalik1770 lol, this is 17 months later, I’m a sophomore with a 3.8 going to college next year. COVID ruined soccer and I’d like to go to Madinah Islamic university
Is a freshman GPA with 3.9 good without any Ap's? Sophomore year I'm going to take the most Ap classes plus junior. I'm part of key club and medical club but I only have 21 hours as of now of community service. Are my stats really low?
You’re vid is only the 3rd I’ve watched. Very informative! Thx! If we can swing UW Seattle for our oldest, even just 1 yr, then switch to Tac? He wants engineering, then maybe that’ll be the best for overall college experience. I don’t think living at home & 2 yr college just to save $ is best idea for him. Maybe because I only did 1 yr university...(oops!) then community colleges. Thoughts? And what about art majors? Any local school that you can recommend? My daughter is an award winning painter at 15! Whoop whoop!
Im a junior with 3.97 GPA unweighted and Itook 1 AP class last year, am taking 4 this year and 5 next year haven't got my sat score yet but I got a 1350 out of 1520 on my psat, do alot of kids at UW transfer AP credits?
Do you think being involved in clubs will make or break your chances of getting into UW? I have problems finding a club that I want and I feel like I need to find more than one in order to get into a college like UW I’m a sophomore in hs so I still have time but I’m still worried I’ve been looking at UW for a while and just trying to see what UW is looking for the most
You can always start your own club about something that you're passionate about! As long as you do what you love and put a lot of effort into it colleges will definitely notice, especially if you take the initiative to create a club that your school didn't have! Have fun and best of luck!
honestly just join a club you know a lot of people are joining that sounds interesting(that's what i'm doing with HOSA and now i love it!). also, do you live in state and if so, what school do you go to? BTW, i'm a sophomore this year.
Usually they send a normal white envelope to those who didn't get accepted while the others get a golden one. I've never heard anyone getting an email unless things have changed!!
L I V Oh God. So I’ll know just by the color of the envelope I receive? Did they conceal the gold envelope in a bigger one which is differently colored, or is it really just either gold (acceptance) or white (rejection)? So sorry for all the questions! I’m currently anxiously awaiting their decision. 😭
Haha no worries! The one for acceptances is just gold so you wouldn't really have to guess what your outcome would be while opening the envelope. I've had a friend get an acceptance through a white envelope though which he was worried about but found out the school was missing extra information on him. Which I think is why his differed
I have 3.98 unweighted, 4.4 weighted, 31 ACT but my extracurriculars are kinda weak... I’m in stuco (Student Body historian) and NHS. I really want to go to UW but idk if that’s strong enough. Can someone tell me if it’s good enough lol i haven’t taken AP because my HS is dual credit program and I’m graduating with associates degree (hopefully because of corona lol) Also, I didn’t take any honor classes my freshman year because I moved from oversea and my English wasn’t good....
NHS is ok, but you should plan to become president of the club. Your gpa is wonderful and so is your ACT. Just bring it up a bit more and show some interest in more extracurriculars you never know what you may find
If you're stressing about SAT scores and your GPA I'd honestly tell you all that's not all UW wants. I was just accepted with a 3.0 and my SAT scores were pretty low.
Yes I plan to go to cc and transfer! do you know if theirs a "cut off" gpa?
Chantal I wouldn’t say there is a cut off but there is an average of 3.3 I believe for transfers. So try to get around that or above!
Think Washington state will accept?
its been a month, did you got accepted? i hope u did :)
@@semehalyoseph1506 not yet, being notified in mid-March so fingers crossed! But I did get accepted to SPU, WWU, CWU, and WSU.
@@bobsmith-sk5zr omg did u get accepted? we have a similar gpa & APs so i need to know 😩
did you get accepted?
Did you get accepted into Hawaii pacific university?
For me it’s just:
College
Okay no college?
Military
Do you think I can have to opportunity to apply to UW if I improve my GPA scores? (Here are my GPA scores - Freshman Year (3.083) 2019-2020 // Sophmore year (2.723) 2020-2021 // and I'm currently I'm a junior in Shelton high school with a rank of a 2.830 GPA 2021-2022) I'm highly disappointed in failing to get the same GPA score or better than my freshman year, and im hoping to do better next year. The thing is that im not sure if they will accept me because of my low GPA scores and grades on my high school transcript. Please, what do you advise me to do?
give up tbh
my weighted gpa is 4.18, unweighted is 3.935. i don’t have that many extracurriculars, Marching band, in school environmental club, a job, some community service, not a lot. would’ve been more without covid :(, i decided not to include my test scores because of covid, i’ll come back next month to say if i got in, crossing my fingers.
Can I ask if you got in? My fingers are crossed!
you just gave me so much hope of getting in wow
Do they look at your grade in individual subject or your overall GPA per semester?
Was your 19 on the act the minimum you could get for university of Washington?
Ack Im super young and UW is kinda my dream school. I live in Asia and ya know its kinda hard moving to another continent willy-nilly. Im not in high school yet and am planning to join choir, chess and art if possible. I recently calculated my GPA (Im not advanced or anything) and hold a solid-ish 3.7. If all goes well do you think I could get in?
You’d have to definitely wait and see how you do in High School. However, I will say, if you keep working really really hard and join a lot of clubs at school and volunteer, you should have a pretty good chance. Hoping for the best for you!
Will I get in UW as a transfer with a 2.8 Gpa?
Or does it have to be at least a 3.2 Gpa?
I will be a junior this fall and I did pretty well freshman year with only a couple B's the entire year but then sophomore year I slipped up and only got a 3.03 weighted GPA but redeemed myself second semester and finished with a 3.75 weighted GPA. If I work really hard the next two years and earn 4.0s each year will I have a good chance of getting in? I've wanted to go to this school forever
Whats the fee at UW? **including living expenses(accomodation etc.)**
Heyo! I know you made this video like two years ago...... But i was wondering what residence hall you would recommend.
What major are u in?
Vincent1324. No that’s really good!!!
Vincent1324. it’s alright
Whoop whoop!
should i choose key club over nhs?
Boy I’m glad they don’t take test scores anymore!!!!
I’m taking honors classes in my freshmen year Is that good?
Im a junior with 3.97 GPA unweighted and Itook 1 AP class last year, am taking 4 this year and 5 next year haven't got my sat score yet but I got a 1350 out of 1520 on my psat, do alot of kids at UW transfer AP credits?
BTW sat and acts are no longer required
do they consider weighted GPA? or only unweighted?
emanyouwhale it's all unweighted :( but they do value an honors class B probably higher than an academic A, they encourage you to challenge yourself
As a transfer student, I won't find out until July if I get in or not 😥
Oh no! I wouldn't able to wait that long! Haha I wish you the best of luck and lmk how it goes!! 💕
I understand !!
💕💕
Do you think being involved in clubs will make or break your chances of getting into UW?
I have problems finding a club that I want and I feel like I need to find more than one in order to get into a college like UW
I’m a sophomore in hs so I still have time but I’m still worried
I’ve been looking at UW for a while and just trying to see what UW is looking for the most
You can always start your own club about something that you're passionate about! As long as you do what you love and put a lot of effort into it colleges will definitely notice, especially if you take the initiative to create a club that your school didn't have! Have fun and best of luck!
I wanna get into clubs but I don’t have time for it
honestly just join a club you know a lot of people are joining that sounds interesting(that's what i'm doing with HOSA and now i love it!). also, do you live in state and if so, what school do you go to? BTW, i'm a sophomore this year.
@@kimh.8176 most club meetings are really short, don't take up too much time
Did they email you if there is an update on the application? I heard they only email rejections.
I also checked my results online somehow before the letter came through (I don't remember how I did it lol)
L I V Omg thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions!!! Good luck during your time at UW! 💜
What was your IB score, out of 45? And your subject choices?
Unfortunately I never tested! Just took some IB classes for a challenge and nice transcript
I hope i get in, in 5 years LOL
omg i got waitlisted from uw 😔
what was your gpa and sat?
See video
Did you watch the video?
Did you get into the other 7 schools?
Yes I did! All the schools I applied to are in the description :)
UW $60,000 a year
Hahaha more like 17,000 for me!
L I V did you receive scholarships?
This was truly helpful! Do you mind me asking some questions if you could give me your email?
I have 3.98 unweighted, 4.4 weighted, 31 ACT but my extracurriculars are kinda weak... I’m in stuco (Student Body historian) and NHS. I really want to go to UW but idk if that’s strong enough. Can someone tell me if it’s good enough lol
i haven’t taken AP because my HS is dual credit program and I’m graduating with associates degree (hopefully because of corona lol)
Also, I didn’t take any honor classes my freshman year because I moved from oversea and my English wasn’t good....
NHS is ok, but you should plan to become president of the club. Your gpa is wonderful and so is your ACT. Just bring it up a bit more and show some interest in more extracurriculars you never know what you may find
Have fun with your very expensive education. shoulda went to cc first. you woulda saved a lot of $$.
I've been going to school for free, fortunately, aside from personal housing costs :) happy, happy me
What are you majoring in
