Thank you so much for this video, I'm going to college in a few years and UW is honestly my dream school. This helped me so much and you're amazing, keep it up!!
This video was extremely helpful, UW is by far my number one school and I'm really hoping to get in (obviously)! I wrote my first essay on an eating disorder I had freshman year and my diversity one about my big family and how close we all are.... Do you think that my diversity one is okay? I never really considered myself diverse in the common way of different culture or gender preferences or anything like that, so I'm wondering if you think that would work alright. I'm really nervous about getting in, it has been my dream school since sophomore year!!!
That's awesome you're applying! I think your diversity one is good! Honestly, it can be difficult finding how you're different than other people, so anything that makes you stand out is great! I wish you the best of luck! :)
Can you make a video on stats (AP classes, SAT/ACT, extracurriculars you did, etc.) of your personal experience of getting into UW? If you don’t feel comfortable sharing that is fine!
I am an average kid who composes music on the piano. Every time I perform in group recitals (required recitals for everyone in my class, people ask me for the sheet music so they can learn it, and I have to write out my songs every time that happens because I play and write every peice by memory. I am naturally pitch perfect and I have been able to perfectly replicate any note I hear since I knew what singing was. I can even now sing any note without a start (ie "sing e" *sings e*). I have written three musicals and am currently writing a fourth one. I have been invited to several extracurricular musical groups without an audition (such as audition Jazz choir). I have achieved so much with so little work in the music world. Why is this special? Why am I so strange? On aug 2, 2002, a child named Kyra was born, she saw and heard the world in a much different way than the people around her did. Her parents didn't find this out until she was seven, sitting in the office as an MRI patient. The doctors revealed to my parents that I have a rare defect that caused my right ear to have permanant unilateral hearing loss. And I was supposed to be tone deaf. I was supposed to be *low functioning*I was supposed to have *anxiety*I could even be *dead* That is the story behind the "qualifying experience and class credits" that you see on my resume. Because I assure you, it is much more than just that.
I'm in running start also, and its really good to start doing clubs whenever. junior year is especially important so i really suggest joining a club or two that interest you because it'll make you stand out on your college apps!
Are school sports/sports in general a necessity and something that would "look good" on the applications?? This vid really helped and I'm still a sophomore but... better early!! Haha
They don't hurt, but they're definitely not a necessity! They just look good because it shows you do stuff outside of classes, so as long as you have an activity like that you're good to go!
On my essay I wrote about how I was not independent till my twin sister died in my softmore year of highschool and how my life changed from being called one of the twins to an independent girl. ( Ik It sounds dumb but i always had someone to sit with in lunch , go to the mall & hangout on the first the day of school. My softmore year I was lonely but it made me stronger ) . good luck to anyone who applies to this school
It depends on which dorm you choose! West Campus is more expensive than North, but there's financial aid that can help out with housing costs :) I'm glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!!
hey! I'm a junior this year with a 3.9 GPA and a 28 ACT score. I'm taking 2 AP classes right now and I've taken a total of 12 honors courses in high school. UW is my dream school! what do you think my chances are of getting in? and also, since I'm coming from out of state, what are things I should know/scholarship opportunities I should look into? (sorry if this is a lot to ask but since I'm from Louisiana I don't know anyone who goes to UW!)
Reigny Day Im probably not who you wanted to answer, but just thought I'd try. So I use this website to calculate chances of getting accepted. It's called prep scholar and it only takes into account of GPA and ACT or SAT. I plugged in you numbers and got around 67% which is really good. Then if you take into account your honors classes, AP classes, if you've had steady or improving grades, and what things outside of school your involved in, you have a pretty good chance of getting in. I don't know about the rest because I'm not in college yet either. But just thought I'd give you my input. Even if it doesn't matter.
UW is my top school for linguistics after tons of research but i'm from New York, do you think the move and expenses will be worth it? Thanks for making this video it actually helped a lot with the application process!
Aww I'm glad it helped! I mean, if it's your dream school you should definitely go for it! Out of state tuition can be pretty expensive, so I'd make sure there weren't any other schools in New York that would fit that, but UW is such a great school so you would be getting a great education! I wish you the best of luck! :)
Hi there! You might be able to answer my question. I've already applied to the University of Washington, filled out every single dialog box in the application (essays, extra curricular, et cetera). I feel extremely confident about my essays for I spent ages on it and received great feedback from my fellow professors. My GPA and ACT score is what is getting me worried. My GPA is current a 3.15 unweighted and a 3.20 weighted while my ACT score is currently stuck at a 20. On December 3rd, I will be taking the SAT for the first time and hopefully send in my scores before December 31st. Should I be worried about my overall GPA and ACT?
Hello! Honestly, it really depends on everyone else is applying. It's getting more and more competitive each year, so I can't really say for certain! I would just say to do your best on the SAT (I'm sure you're going to!), in order to bump up your scores. It sounds like you're making your essays as competitive as possible as well, so that should help a lot. They look at you holistically, meaning they take everything into account, rather than only focussing on your scores. Just make sure to include everything about you that makes you stand out, in order to make your application as competitive as possible! I can't guarantee anything, but it seems like you're doing everything right! :) I wish you the best of luck!!
Stnkrbug My life journey is pretty different. I'm refugee and coming from muslim family. But I have a passion on science, especially for neuroscince. As I said before, I have perfect transcript. And I want to study in UW with some financial aid. Can I have some even though I've never attended in any club/extracurricular activities?
I am curious. I had search up scholarships for UW and most is for resident of the state plus the tuition is 20,000 dollars cheaper each year compared to the out of state tuition. Do you think going for residency in Washington first before attending UW waiting for a year before college to save money is a good idea?
I'm graduating high school in December instead of May. I'm really considering UW, but I can't seem to figure out how apply for the spring semester. I looked on the UW website and I noticed the year is separated into quarters instead of semesters. Am I supposed to apply for the winter quartile to be able to attend right after I graduate?
I'm not quite sure how applying for spring quarter works, but you could definitely contact the admissions office and they would be able to answer your question! Good luck!!
Any housing recommendations for freshmen? :) When I toured they only showed us West Campus, but said North campus was similar. Just curious where you stayed or if you had a preference.
I was in West Campus, in Poplar and I loved it! I know some people don't like North Campus dorms because they're older and have communal bathrooms, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with them. North Campus dorms are cheaper, though!
Ok thank you so much!! This question may be out there, but I figured I would try anyway. I am interested in UW, but hear that there are majors that are difficult to get into and that you apply to get in during freshman year. I heard many people are not accepted and forced to change majors or transfer for their sophomore year. That just sounds nerve racking to me to go to a school and not even know if you will get into your major. Have you known anyone that has gone through that? Or is in a program with a lower acceptance rate? I personally am interested in the design program. Sorry if this is a specific question, I would love to hear your opinion. :)
Thank you for this!!! Washington is my number one school!! I also had a big question! For the personal statement for UW, are you just writing it on one of the topics? Or is it like where you explain how much you want in the school, your grades, your future, etc. I'm just super confused :(!
That's great! :) I don't really remember what the topics were when I wrote my personal statement, but usually they are just more about yourself and the reasons you want to go to a school in general! I think you could definitely talk about yourself personally, and then if you're worried about the topic, try and incorporate it in the rest of the statement! Good luck -- I hope you get in! :)
Pretty rainy honestly! But it's SO beautiful here in the Pacific Northwest so it's worth it! I'm used to the rain since I grew up here, but I know it can be a bit of an adjustment for people from other parts of the US. We still get a fair amount of sunny days in the spring and summer though!
I just applied to UW as a transfer student & on the website it says the notification period is in June + July. Do I really have to wait that long to know if I got in? I know UW starts like late September but that’s really late especially if you need to apply for housing & financial aid.
My GPA is 4.6, and I'm Captain of the Varsity Dance Team, member of multiple honors societies, president of a club, vice president of another club, executive board member, and a business intern. In what range do you think my SAT or ACT score should be? (at least over 1300 or 30?)
Ahhh I'm sorry - I really don't remember the stats on this because it's been a couple of years since I've taken them! I'd look it up on College Confidential, and look at the average scores accepted of the specific colleges you'll be applying to. Good luck!
No, not really! People say the acceptance rate from out of state applicants is lower, but I really wouldn't worry about it too much - just try your hardest on the application!
Do they look at ap classes I took? And what about extracurricular activities? Do they look at that heavily because I don't really join much extracurricular activities but my gpa is about 4.02
You can send your AP scores to the colleges you apply to, in which case they would probably take a look at that! And I wouldn't worry too much about extracurricular activities, just try and mention anything you do outside of school!
Hey, UW is my absolute dream college, when I visited it I almost cried, I actually shed a tear but then held myself in. It's so amazing and my dream come true. Can you please tell me what my chances would be? I have a 3.56 UW GPA, my ACT score is a 21. I've never taken any AP classes, I've taken 3 honors classes (1 of them is senior year). I've never had a C, D, or F. My freshmen GPA was a 3.77, sophomore GPA was a 3.75, then junior year I really struggled and I was taking 2 classes that didnt count for my GPA so my junior GPA was a 3.3. My senior GPA so far is a 3.8. I have lots of EC's, 130+ volunteer hours, I volunteer at a cancer foundation in regards to my moms cancer (which I wrote about in my essay and how it changed me. So in conclusion, the only thing I'm worried about is my GPA, test scores, and course load which is important :(. I'm praying my EC's and essay wows them.
It sounds like you have a pretty great chance! I know people really tend to focus on GPA's, but University of Washington tries to look at people holistically, and not focus on any one thing. It sounds like you have a lot of great volunteer experience, so I would definitely highlight that, as well as all of the honors classes you have taken! I wish you the best of luck! :)
Mrhotdogwinner1 hey I also applied I got a 26 on my ACT with a 3.65uw GPA but I have taken about 17 AP/ IB classes and have about 80 hours of volunteering at a children's hospital. I am kind of worried because my essay was not that strong as I wrote it last minute before December 1 sooo fingers crossed!
Honestly, it's really hard to say because it depends on so many different things. I know people who got in with a 3.3 GPA, but it also depends on the applicant pool of the year. Just try and make sure that your application is as competitive as possible!
It is a bit more difficult for out of state students to get in, but it isn't too terribly drastic. Here's a link that might be helpful: www.studypoint.com/admissions/university-of-washington/ Good luck!!
Hello Stnkrbug. I am from Brazil and I want to apply to UW. So obviously I am "out of state". But I will live in Seattle if I get accepted. So what do you think? Does the fact that I live in another country the moment I'm applying make a difference? I will become an "in state student" anyway.
I don't quite remember since it's been about 3-4 years now, sorry! You can look up the average SAT and ACT scores of students admitted to UW though online!
I looove how original this is, not to mention you look so beaut!! Your channel is so good, Im so ready for your next video already ahahha☺ it would mean so much to me if youd check out my last video!!
Thank you so much for this video, I'm going to college in a few years and UW is honestly my dream school. This helped me so much and you're amazing, keep it up!!

Haha anyway, good tips!
Haha thanks!
Can you make a video on stats (AP classes, SAT/ACT, extracurriculars you did, etc.) of your personal experience of getting into UW? If you don’t feel comfortable sharing that is fine!
You need to turn autofocus off
U dub is my dream college and i just recently went to tour the campus and was blown away by their diversity and community. I am so excited to apply.
It's such an awesome university! I hope you get in when you apply!
You should do a video about how to make a college decision / why you chose UW!! Im trying to decide right now and that would be very helpful!!
Oooo that's a really great idea! I forgot that acceptant letters are being sent out now!
Just submitted my application last night :)! I'm feeling very confident about it!
That's awesome! I wish you the best of luck!
Can't wait to hear back!
wow, thank you so much for this! I'm currently a junior in high school but UW is my dream school!
Awww that's great! I wish you the best of luck when it's time for you to apply!! :)

Am I unique yet?
I really want to go to this school when I'm older so your videos really help!
That's awesome - glad I could help! :)
Thank you for this video, I really needed it since I am applying to the University of Washington this year. :D
Thank you for watching! :) And aww yay! Good luck!!
I'm a junior doing running start, I've never been in any clubs yet, or have any volunteer experiences, what can I do? Is it too late to start?
My gpa's like 3.7ish, does the running start experience help at all?
I'm in running start also, and its really good to start doing clubs whenever. junior year is especially important so i really suggest joining a club or two that interest you because it'll make you stand out on your college apps!
Thank you so much!!!
Omg!! loved your video!
Thanks so much! Trying to Transfer to UW right now! :)
That's awesome - congrats!
This video was really helpful I live in Washington Im going to be applying to college in a few years and UW is my dream school Im so nervous :]
Nice!! I hope you get in when you apply! :)
Thank you so much! Also- I felt like I was really talking to you haha

What can I do if I've never been attended in any clubs? btw I have perfect transcript and I'm an international student.
Just try and highlight any extracurricular activities you're involved in, it's alright if you aren't in any clubs! :)
Stnkrbug My life journey is pretty different. I'm refugee and coming from muslim family. But I have a passion on science, especially for neuroscince. As I said before, I have perfect transcript. You could do it in your personal statement!

Thanks for watching! And that's awesome - congrats!!
Is it really that competitive to get in the CSE department? What about electric engineering?
With volunteer work, how do you get the hours of volunteering documents/ on your transcript for proof of the work?
Usually you don't have to provide proof, just say where/when you volunteered!
I just applied to UW as a transfer student & on the website it says the notification period is in June + July. Do I really have to wait that long to know if I got in? I know UW starts like late September but that’s really late especially if you need to apply for housing & financial aid.

lol im in the same boat lol :D best of luck I had a 29 on the act with a 3.5 so my grades were not good either :D
It sounds like you have a pretty great chance! I know people really tend to focus on GPA's, but University of Washington tries to look at people holistically, and not focus on any one thing. I am kind of worried because my essay was not that strong as I wrote it last minute before December 1 sooo fingers crossed!
Winnie Chen did u get in?
Yep but I decided to attend Purdue university after some thinking and mostly my parents leading me against it.
This school doesn’t or does have a language arts type of classes?? Anybody know cause I can’t find anything for it.
It does! There's an English major, too. Here's a link: english.washington.edu/
I have an unweighed GPA of 3.3 but a weighted GPA of 4.5. Do I stand a chance? :(
Honestly, it's really hard to say because it depends on so many different things. I know people who got in with a 3.3 GPA, but it also depends on the applicant pool of the year. Just try and make sure that your application is as competitive as possible!
Stnkrbug I am also out of state. Does that make it a lot harder?
It is a bit more difficult for out of state students to get in, but it isn't too terribly drastic. Here's a link that might be helpful: www.studypoint.com/admissions/university-of-washington/
Good luck!!
Hello Stnkrbug. I am from Brazil and I want to apply to UW. So obviously I am "out of state". But I will live in Seattle if I get accepted. So what do you think? Does the fact that I live in another country the moment I'm applying make a difference? I will become an "in state student" anyway.
Good Job if you haven't already applied, it's too late. Applications were due on December 1st.
What were your test scores when you applied to UDub?
I don't quite remember since it's been about 3-4 years now, sorry! You can look up the average SAT and ACT scores of students admitted to UW though online!
Do you know anybody who transferred from a CC to uw? I got rejected :( im a freshman but its my dream school and I refuse to give up
I do know a couple of people!! Don't give up and keep on trying!! Good luck!
What was the gpa needed if your trying to transfer?? To UW??
I'm not quite sure, but it should be on the UW website!
Ok thanks so much!!
I m from India.my cgpa in 12 class is 9.6 in out of 10.
so I wanna take admission in UW.pls help me
I'm sure if you follow these tips you'll do great! :)
How do I apply ?
