- In this short interview at admaker studio Kishore Kumar is singing his first debut song Marne ki Duaye kyu mangu Jeene ki Tamana koun Kare from film Ziddi starring Dev Anand. He is singing this song with the support of a harmonium which is played by himself only.

Its not just the tonal quality or accuracy, a lot of singers can do that - its the emotionally rich rendition, delivered on-the-spot that puts him above most of the rest.
But no singer today can reach the dynamics and vocal range that kishore da had in his voice
@@fermion4945 Today's playback singers yes, but Mohd. Rafi certainly more than matched him for range . I am talking about the emotional feel with which he rendered songs. Having said that, there are some songs that only Mohd. Rafi could deliver, some that only Mukesh and so on. Just listen to a lilting composition from a private album by Khayyam " Paun padoon tore Shyaam". I cant imagine anyone other than Mohd. Rafi singing this (male or female).

And you are right in saying that hume tumse pyar kitna could have only been sung by KK. In fact in my opinion (which I am entitled to) i liked it more than the female version. Another example is "Aye Khuda Har Faisla" ,again composed by by RDB. That's precisely my point about some of these songs that Md Rafi, Kishore Kumar et al sang. Those could have only sounded best with their voices.

Effortless, yes. 'Without any formal training' is a fool's thought. No-one, absolutely no-one, in any discipline viz. science/arts/craftsmanship (whatever), can ever excel or perform in such high level, without training. He did not have formal classical music training, but that is not the ONLY kind of music that exists. He is mighty well trained in every kind of music or musical elements he was ever interested in. He could play several instruments as well (harmonium, guitar etc.). He was super trained, always super prepared (for a recording), AND gifted as well. And those were deadly combos. Please, STOP spreading this false notion that he was somehow "untrained".

Those times, people,those personalities,stories of integrity,valour, true heroism, decency, elegant chivalry,simpler folks with tremendous positivity n goodwill...those days, the music with a soul, the songs n the lyrics..few programs,fewer still channels n gizmos but often families huddling up together, yelling out in cheerful anticipation to hurry up to be in front of the hero of every household- the TV... cassettes with sides A n B,hiring VCDs/VCPs , movies being played in those never-ending summer vacations,the cool summer breeze , comics for entertainment, we had even the radio- the radio Ceylon n Cibaca Geetmala,perhaps they used to call it...the huge gardens n open playfields, the much more natural smelling n tasting cereals n veggies that were seasonal only,the fruits n the rotis n milk.. landline telephones n much more sincere n hearty conversations n STD booths..public phones, the 5,10,25,60 paise coins... very long duration train journeys that made places seemingly lot more distant than they were..something about the time gone by..magical n with every passing day seems mesmerising n hard to believe.can't help but wonder am I living the same life???
