    I bought a small Little Warty, when I was Only grabbing soil at Home Depot, lol, but I did so well, only coming home with 1 new plant! And tomorrow is my 40th birthday! So I can do what I want, lol 😂 I live in the middle of the Florida Keys and my aloe's and hawarthia's are all outside, as 95% of my plants. I'm replanting it as soon as I figure out which little pot it's going in. Thank you fur your awesome advise and information! It's much appreciated! Happy Easter 🐣 💛 🥰

    Thanks for the wonderful information on Gasterias. I bought one at Walmart, of all places! I had no idea what it was, but it was nice and green and in it's little pot it already had several babies. It has been two years since I bought it and it is nice to know how to actually take care of the dear plant. Thank you from Pennsylvania in the USA. ( My great grandparents came from County Down).

    Thanks for this video, Lyn, I enjoyed it a lot! Your large pot with all those gasterias and their pups is very impressive and beautiful. I didn't know they grow and propagate so fast. Remember those two little ones I found on the floor of our botanical garden and saved? One of them died, and the other one is doing fine. It lost a leaf, and looks a little dry, but it's making a new leaf and will be ok. It used to be with the orchids, but then it got so dark that I was afraid it was dying. I put it in a shadier spot, and now it looks greener again. Maybe it was the light? The little leave in the middle has grown a little, so I guess it isn't dying. :) Thank you, and have a great week! :)

    Thanks so much for the tips! Super helpful :) would love some advice if you can as I'm so unsure what to do... One of mine's roots were all dead, so I've taken them off and been keeping it hovering on soil and waiting for roots to form... it's been a couple of weeks and no roots have emerged yet, would you recommend putting it into soil straight? Or wait longer? (The base has been dipped in cinnamon and the plant itself looks good still)

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 года назад

      Hi there, so sorry for only seeing your comment now, thats great you removed the dead roots, yes you can definitely go ahead and plant it up straight into succulent soil, but keep unwatered for about a month and then after a month you can start to introduce a very light watering to encourage the rooting, good luck with Gasteria, and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching XXXX

    One small thing: at 1:28 you say "Gasteria" is a *Latin* name. It obviously is, as all scientific names are Latin, but the word "gastros" is actually *Greek*.

    Hello Lynne! Thank you SO much for making this video! I purchased a beautiful gasteria batesiana from a plant shop and sadly was given incorrect info that it would be good in direct Los Angeles sunlight:( Direct sun and heat, along with what I now know is over-watering, has caused it to sunburn and many of it's base leaves to yellow and shrivel. I've just moved it into a shady spot, but am wondering if I should prune the dead leaves off and re-pot in the same way that your re-potting video instructs? Any advice would be much appreciated!

      Hi there :-D So sorry to hear about your Gasteria batesiana, the good news it should recover really well, yes you can prune off the dead leaves and then re pot again, you have done the best thing moving it to a shadier spot and these plants are brilliant at recovering really well :-D good luck with your beautiful Gasteria batesiana

    HEYYYYY LYN! ☺☺☺☺😁 omigod I'm so honored .. by making this gasteria video already make me happy but u even mentioned my name ... u don't have to Lyn 😊 you're too kind haha .wow that clusters of gasterias you have .. so cool.. I hope I could grow some like that too 👍 I have gasteria glomerata and gasteria baylissiana .. and the rotted one and died is the glomerata ... like I already told u if u remembered because of over watering.. lol .. we're friends now Lyn. .. I pray good karma for your kindness .. thanks so much Lyn for the wonderful video and for your time making that video even just for my humble request ✌nexttttttttt please show us the exact way to watering gasterias .. like how exactly you pour the water .. like is it from beneath and just put the pot drowned in water or by the soil or all the leaves included ... because I know u watering it next year right ? because theyre dormant now... and another question .. do gasterias have dormant period too in tropical climate ?? or that just occurred on 4 seasons countries ??? xoxo from Indonesia

      +Indra Yudha Kusuma Thanks a billion Indra for your fantastic comments and I was so happy to make this video, and I am just so sorry I took so long to make it haha! :-) I will definitely make a video in the Spring about the exact way to water them ,a s it can be difficult with all of their rosettes because if they get damp they are prone to rotting, so its always best to water from the base of them, but will definitely make a vid in the Spring on the watering requirements :-) Thats such a brilliant question you have asked about the tropical climate because the temperature and the light levels has a huge impact on the watering levels even in the Winter, and because you are blessed in Indonesia with warm temperatures and brighter and higher light levels all through the seasons, I definitely think your Gasterias and other succulent plants will definitely keep on growing through the winter but at a slower rate than Spring and Summer :-) I would keep your plants on the drier side still and giving them some water about once a month just to prevent the soil from getting too dry, but if they show any sides of shriveling then give them a good watering to prevent them from losing their roots :-) Hope this helps and wow! what I would do to be in warm Indonesia now haha! Thanks so much for watching Indra and have a FANTASTIC Monday ahead XXXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 года назад

      Hi Bernie :-D so happy you enjoyed the video :-D and thats wonderful news you have lots of babies growing, yes it can be normal for the parent leaves to go a bit of a pink colour, it can be due to excess light or lack of water, but mine goes pink to in bright sunshine and it is not harmful, I leave the pups around the Mother plant to form a clump, it does not harm the Mother plant, but you can definitely remove the pup once it has grown about an inch in size, and pot up into its own individual pot, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and have a fantastic weekend XXXX

    Hi Lyn! Really informative video, thank you! I currently have my little gasteria on a bright southern window sill (I didn't realise they didn't like bright light until watching this video) It's gone a browny/red colour I think probably due to excessive sun, but it is also getting a flower! So i'm unsure whether to move it?! What are you thoughts? :) x

      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад +1

      +Rachael Totty Hi Rachael :-) Thank you so much for your wonderful comment :-) thats such wonderful news your Gasteria is coming into bloom and if I was you I would leave it in the same window its in until after it flowers, because sometimes moving them can make the plant drop the flower, and although the south window is making your plant go reddish, it won't harm your plant to leave it in the window until after it has flowered, and then I would recommend moving it to a position with more shade and your plant should green back up again really well and continue to flower the following year :-) thanks so much for watching and sending you lots of love and heaps of happiness and happy growing from Ireland and have a fantastic Wednesday XXXXX

    Have you been repotting the big one each year? how do you keep it all together as a clump?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад

      +maxpawl Thanks so much for watching and your question :-) I don't re pot the big one in a bigger pot every year as it is very slow growing, but I do get it out of the pot every year to check the roots and cut back any of the dead ones. :-) most of the smaller 'rosettes' are coming up from the top of the plant rather than from the bottom of the roots, so I am able to separate the roots to check them over without separating the smaller ones growing up from the top and around the top, as long as I am able to get to the roots and separate them, then I leave them as a clump, if I wasn't able to reach them though I would definitely recommend separating them all if it was the only way to reach the roots :-) Sending tons of love and heaps of happy growing from Ireland and have a FANTASTIC new week ahead XXXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 года назад +1

      Hi Jose :-D its possible you may be able to save it by propagating the branch as a cutting, pot up the branch in dry succulent soil and keep in a warm and bright position and no water until mid March, its possible you may get roots to form over time, but in Winter it will be much slower, if the cutting starts to shrivel you can lightly mist the cutting and soil, but roots will still form in dry soil too, good luck with your cutting and thanks so much for watching XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 года назад

      Hi there, yes you can also propagate Gasteria from leaves, if you cut off the savable leaves and allow the cut part to fully dry 'callus' over for about a eek and then plant into cactus and succulent soil, then keep mostly dry until Spring and just mist the very top surface of the soil once a week until the Spring, keep in a bright and warm position to encourage faster rooting, good luck with your plant and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER and Happy Holidays to you XXXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Paul :-D Gasteria are more shade loving plants and although can take bright light they can still go pale and get sunburn if if you move them from inside to outside without acclimatising them to the brighter light they will go pale or and red, the good news is if you move your Gasteria back into a shadier position or inside in time it should recover again, but the pale parts may not recover but any new growth will be green, if you move outside again keep it in a shadier position away from strong sunlight, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered day XXXX
