I sat in with a consultation with my GP. After 8 years of visiting this GP, she said "you need to start eating meat". I've been a vegan for 24 years. I gently rose from my seat, put on my coat and walked out the door, gently closing the door behind, without saying one word.

As an ex-Muslim from Pakistan and now a vegan, I do feel shame for eating animals. Animals are sentient beings that too have bonds, emotional case and relationships. We’ve been desensitised of animal welfare because they’re being treated as commodity by the regressive religion and tradition, perpetuated by capitalism.
I’m an ex-Sikh from India. I also did not agree with dairy being served in gurdwaras and mandhirs.

Same here. I learned a few new things for my debates and outreach in just this one video! For example-"When you look in the eyes of an animal, there is someone in there." That makes the argument that plants and animals are no different obviously so wrong. I also loved going to the basics with- "Do unto others as you would have done to you."

I'm an ex Muslim vegan, when I'm talking to my mum - I find it a lot more constructive to sidestep the debate about religious details.
I'm always impressed by how well you speak to religious people about the ways veganism can help them live more in line with their religious values. It's a real skill to be so in-tune with other people's perspectives!

I just want to put it out there one of the most well known activists in the US animal rights movement Sean Muttaqi best known for his band Vegan Reich as well as his involvement as an activist in PETA and the ALF is a Muslim, there is also a vegan movement within Islam(ive had many discussions with the young Muslims group at the local university about "introduction to veganism"). The person in the video is trying to use their faith to justify a lifestyle choice.

I have never had any problem absorbing B12 from my lifetime plant diet. I eat wild mushrooms and they say they are full of b12. My two horses live exclusively on grasses and clovers and neither of them have ever had b12 deficiency either. It is all about your body manufacturing it like my horses do. They have only one stomach like we do. My Mother's doctor told her they treat exclusive meat eaters for b12 deficiency alot. As a matter of fact my moms doctor has never treated a vegan for anything. I have never had a medical problem at 57 years of age.
I went to visit my wife's uncle in rural Scotland last summer, we did some work on his mobile home, he had some nuts and bolts stored in a tub he'd presumably got from his neighbour, a beef farmer, it was an empty tub of cattle feed suppliment. I read the ingredients, loads of stuff in it like Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin B12, Zinc, it made me wonder if the meat industry is over feeding cattle with nutrients in order to promote their product, how many vitamins and minerals in beef are there artifically? Is 'I get my nutrients from beef, not artificially out of a tablet' really a true statement?
They might not have been as interested and understanding as it seemed to be. Even though she listened and asked questions, the "jokes" at the end proved, that she chose to continue to pay for animal abuse. Sad.
Sometimes, the people that seem more interested, are actually not that interested and choose to stay ignorant, while people, that get offended and outraged, may be affected more by zhe outreach than you think.

I realize asking religion to make sense is pretty futile, but why would a *_benevolent_* God make animals sentient and capable of feeling fear and pain, and yet ask humans to exploit, kill and eat them? It makes no sense, unless it's an *_evil_* God. God also gave humans free will so that humans can make ethical decisions, didn't He? Stop using religion to justify evil. It doesn't. No matter your beliefs, *_you_* are responsible for your own actions and to make ethical choices.

In Hinduism you should sacrifice your anger, lust, carvings, selfishness and not animals and humans. It's clearly mentioned in scriptures and I am happy that at least people of our religion don't have excuses to eat animals in the name of religion. It's actually also said to not kill innocent and harmless animals and eat them for your pleasure but you know who follows religion completely nowadays? they all will follow that it is culturally "norm" and will continue eating these harmless innocent beings.

At the time of the Prophet (pbuh), non-human animal flesh was a necessity for survival. In modern times, we can get all our nutrition from a well-planned vegan diet. So the suffering and cruelty inflicted on non-human animals is completely unnecessary. Since Islam recognises that non-human animals are sentient beings who have consciousness and subjective experience of the world (as shown by the hadith referenced below), this means we can conclude that animal flesh and other products like eggs, dairy, and even insects and honey are haraam in the modern age and that veganism is fardh/wajib for all Muslims who are practically able to go vegan. There is no moral justification for slitting the throat of an animal that does not want to die, for separating children from their mothers, for viewing animals as products to be exploited, in this modern day and age when everyone, even pregnant women and babies, can be healthy on a well-planned vegan diet. Let us emulate the mercy of our beloved Prophet (pbuh) and pay homage to Allah, the Most Merciful and Most Compassionate, by becoming vegan ourselves and advocating for our family and friends to go vegan too, inshallah. Regarding udhiyah/qurbani for eid, let us ban this barbaric practice for the sake of Allah and instead distribute healthy vegan sources of protein such as lentils, chickpeas, grains, etc. to the poor instead of the flesh of an innocent victim. May Allah guide us closer to Him. Ameen.

pilgrimage is one of prime examples of "tradition" and "culture", not of "religion" and "god".
Once people, specifically muslims, are able to separate the two, the world would be a much better place.
Killing an animal, a seperate individual, is not a sacrifice. A sacrifice is when you give up something personally. It is not a sacrifice to take from others. That is selfishness not sacrifice.

I don’t get the hate towards this couple. They are misinformed like we ALL were at some point, but I appreciate they are willing to listen and learn and keep an open mind. I also find the title very unnecessary and provoking. The majority of us were like them one day and got to being vegan through educating ourselves and having productive conversations which is what they are doing. We need more kindness and less judgment, judgment doesn’t help anyone and doesn’t promote veganism.

For any animal to be a sacrifice, they should consent to be sacrificed...THEY DO NOT CONSENT.
Animal sacrifice in religions is a symbolic gesture. When a messenger of God talks about sacrificing animal, he means that you need to sacrifice the animal characteristics within you and elevate your consciousness to higher levels. Not to take a knife and cut an animals throat. The most ridiculous interpretation of scriptures have destroyed innocent animals lives.

Good conversation. I am a Catholic and get frustrated with the Catholic/Christian communities as they cite various passages in the bible as justifications for their treatment of animals. Joey made the same point I have made in the past that your moral foundation came from God. If you were meant to kill animals why does it bother your conscience knowing that God made you? Where does your conscience get it's sense of good and bad from if not from God? So how can it be Godly to violate it? It's a really good argument path to take with religious people, I could see they were grappling with the question. I think Joey planted a seed in these two today.

their problem is; if they accept veganism as right, then that means they acknowledge that islam, everything they know their whole life, is wrong.
People take the scriptures out of context and in Genesis 1:29 it shows the original given diet was a plant based vegan diet and for the young they would be vegetarian as they drink their moms milk. So it’s people who don’t understand the scriptures and take them out of context. Also Genesis 9:4 post flood shows that flesh was never to be eaten. People twist the scriptures to their own destruction.
Not necessarily lol if they followed the Quran they would actually be vegan since Allah says that you are obligated to do everything you can to take care of the earth. Not only that but they were lying about saying you HAVE to kill animals for sacrifice or else you can't complete the pilgrimage lol. I've heard multiple sheikh's talk about how you can sacrifice something that takes from you such as donating to charities, volunteering, etc. I'm not Muslim but you are completely good to be vegan and Muslim lol all vegan food is halal after all
But then one of the main vegan activists in the US Sean Muttaqi known for his band vegan reich but also an activist with peta and the alf/elf is a muslim. And there is a vegan movement within Islam so I think it's more using faith to justify a lifestyle stance.

I have been woken up by you and wished to share this information from Quran 2:196
And complete the ḥajj and ʿumrah for Allāh. But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter. And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity1 or sacrifice.2 And when you are secure,3 then whoever performs ʿumrah [during the ḥajj months]4 followed by ḥajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] - then a fast of three days during ḥajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. Those are ten complete [days]. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. And fear Allāh and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.
This states that if one is unable to accost an animal that they may fast. Obviously to vegans the awareness is higher about killing needlessly and should offer fasting and money worth of the animal as charity. May God forgive us our sins especially the cruelty to animals and people

Going to get wrinkles sooner not eating meat? What in the hell? lol. A mild-moderate to high Meat intake ruins all 4 stages of food in the human body, over time. This leads to premature death let alone premature aging.. Aging is to do with antioxidants (meat has none or virtually none), intracellular hydration (meat has very little and is actually dehydrating from the inflammation and acidity), nutrient absorption (meat hinders absorption by reducing HCL, clogging up the gi tract, increasing harmful pathogenic load in the intestines liver and other areas), and elimination is also hindered causing systemic toxin overload and weight gain. Most people have no clue at ALL about the chemistry of food, specifically meat/animal products as that is what is in question here, and how it impacts the human body. The human body runs the best off light, hydrating, antioxidant rich, low protein foods. The more protein you add to the diet the shorter the lifespan. And I don't care about someones grandma who lived to be 102 eating the SAD diet.. It is completely meaningless. We have people dying in their 40's on the same diet. A tiny pittance of a fraction of 1% of people are living to be 100 without any severe health problems. People are consuming copious amounts of meat, and if meat were a health food, that detoxes the body and nourishes with no ill effects, we would not be seeing even 1 billionth of the amount of sickness, death and destruction we are seeing now from widespread health issues.

I’m a vegan in my 30s, and younger 30 year olds are always commenting on my energy and often think I’m 22-24. Eat whole food plant based and wear sunscreen. You’ll be fine. 🙄
I have vegan Muslims friends who went to Hajj and still managed to complete the Hajj without having the sacricing the animals. Sacrificing animals is not compulsory in Hajj, it's optional.
If a vegetarian eats only organic eggs and milk that comes from a trusted farm, they are not the same as a meat eater in my book, since the vegetarian is not really involved in the modern dairy industry.
Being open minded is much more effective than gatekeeping.
No one needs to eat chickens’ menstrual periods and no one needs to breastfeed from cows 🤷♂️ The idea of veganism is that as long as animals and their secretions are turned into businesses and products, then cruelty is inevitable. All the animals will be sent to slaughter forcibly against their will after people stop eating their menstrual periods and stop breastfeeding from them.

That trusted farm still does some of the unethical practices that an industrial diary farm does though, just on a much smaller scale. That’s part of the issue.
When you know better, you do better. Sacrifice means 'to suffer loss, give up, renounce, injure or destroy especially for an ideal, a belief or an end'.
I've also heard its a way of becoming closer to God.
So as Joey said, why not volunteering your time in charitable works, or raising money for underprivileged children, if the original story was about compassion. Heaven knows there are plenty of displaced people in the world.
I can't find the video however the historian talks about sacrifices being a money maker ie you bring your lamb to Temple, but they find a flaw, so sell you one of theirs at jacked up prices. The money changers that Jesus turfed out were only a part of the commercial self interests.

Honestly even the animal sacrifice argument doesn't hold up. Shouldn't a sacrifice be something very meaningful to you? How could a sacrificial animal even be a meaningful sacrifice, if you constantly engage in animal exploitation and consuming/treating animals like they are disposable anyway? Then everything that is left is just a meaningless slaughter of an exploited being.
Further, I would venture to say, that sacrifice has become a cultural/religious practice, because at the time of their conception of these religions livestock were a rare, prized commodity unlike they are now, hence why it became perhaps something valuable to be sacrificed. This practice wouldn't bear the same meaning in modern times, especially in a developed country like Saudi Arabia.
