Being the homeowner, let me clear the records straight. Gurmit (the contractor) made some overstatements in the video and I sincerely apologize for that. I was not consulted before the video shoot. The pipes under the grass area to harvest the geo-thermal energy are not laid out yet. Inlet and outlet pipes from the house are installed but underground piping work is still pending. The construction methods used included a cavity wall design (3" air gap in between the outer shell walls) and roof insulation sheets to achieve highest thermal efficiency. Cavity wall design is also used in thermal bottles (two wall layers with air in-between) and is a well known construction technique. The house is almost 70-80% thermally efficient compared to regular construction techniques. Until the geo-thermal system is fully functional, we may end up installing two AC units, one on each floor as a cooling/dehumidifying source. But these units will be barely on for 10-15% of the time to maintain the temperature. Still a big saving. Cost of the house so far is about 70 lacs and will be nearly 75 lacs after solar panels and geothermal installations. It's very hard to get dual pane glass for windows in local area. Hopefully using custom window awnings will help the top floor. Purpose of the video shoot was not to showoff but to educate public on advantages of cavity wall design and roof insulation sheets (down ceiling is not as effective). It would be better to increase the thickness of outer wall rather to be cavity wall. especially south west wall and south west area will be developed will tall tress or false wall to counter direct sun expose.
