- A short film about Belmont Academy, Ayr, with footage from 1994 combined with recent footage shot in late 2008 during the demolition of the old buildings and the opening of the new school.

I came back to watch this again. This video was recorded before I was born but I attended the old Belmont. I’m so glad this video exists so I can remember what it was like. I wish I’d taken more pictures before I left.
Left this school 3 years ago and even just seeing the current one inside just makes me nostalgic strange feeling old at only 20 😂😂
Wow.right in the feels 😢couple of my favorite people on here, sadly one passed recently, emigrated abroad after University and sadly we never crossed paths since school. Blessed to have been raised alongside a lot of real caring and honest human beings❤
I come back to this video every now and again. I left after 5th year in 2008. If I had stayed on for 6th year I would have been amongst the first 6th years in the "new" school - it's not that new now of course!
It's surreal watching this again. I can still smell the corridors and the assembly hall.
I wasn't particularly happy at school - too worried about what other people thought of me I suppose. You live and you learn.
Great to see the old school. I left in 98 and drive past it everyday heading to work and often remember the laughs I had their. Mr Harrison was brill and I even remember miss Duncan telling a boy to look at her when she was speaking to him and his reply,, which eye, wonder if the new school will share as many memories

My name is Steven Mackie and I am in sixth year at Belmont academy at the moment and remember the old Belmont academy. use to go down there when I was younger and play about with my friends doing al sorts of stuff. Loved the old school so much and was so upset when it got destroyed. I even learned how to ride my bike where the big grass hill was. so many memories at the old school. The new Belmont is good but far to many memories back then from the old one as my mum went there. Mrs Duncan is still kicking about though at Belmont! same with Mrs Brown from H.E. Not sure if there is anymore still there now but was good times back in the day. My mum is Lorna pettigrew if anyone remembers her by the way.

Went to Belmont between 1990 and '95. I don't often think about my secondary school days as I never really fitted in and I suppose I was a bit of a loner. This video though made me very nostalgic for those years of my youth.
If anyone reads this, you probably won't know of or remember me but you may have vague memories of my dad and uncle who had the wee shop on St.Leonards Road.

he was my neighbour as well as our teacher, he hated me beacause i was english and called the police on me because he thought i was chapping on his door then running away,same as chick harrison the smelly git

This video was just great to watch, so many nooks and crannies of old Belmont I had long forgot (I left at the end of my 4th year in1977).
I hope this is on You Tube for many a year to come as I will be popping back to view it again.
I enjoyed that. Old memories flooded back, good and bad. I wish I could thank some of the teachers I had, there were many that really left an impression on me and I hope they are still doing what they do best. :)
Thanks for posting this. I left in 1981 and this took me right back in time. I even recognized some of the teachers - pretty sure I saw Mr McAnulla, Miss Duncan and "Wee Chick" Harrison in your video. So many memories.

Left 2 years before this video in 92 , the bag dump.. grog alley.. the smoking corners behind a and b block.. mr mcroskies adidas samba haha.. he hated me as did most teachers but always remember mr Dunlop science was a right good guy , most hated teacher by a distance mr helps !
That’s the exact same stuff my dad would tell me about when he was there told me that mr Dunlop grabbed him by the ear at grog alley when he was smoking a fag and got suspended luckily he left the year I first started 😂

This was very sad to watch and brought back wonderful memories of 71 to 77.
Was that Matt Gibson still teaching in 94??? We were first to use the science block and the 'new building' went up in 76. All gone now. Good video!

Watched this again. Was that isla Duncan at 2' 27"? Good also to see Iain McAnulla one of the best teachers I ever had. Always spell his name right as he would take points off for spelling it wrong in exams.

Old school should have been demolished way before the 90’s - my dad & uncle still remembered it from 30 years previous !!! It was in tatters by 94 when I went
wow, what a video. it's a shame about the old building. i go to kyle but i've been about the buildings, old and new. I think the new building lacks.... character? anyone agree?

Very poignant. Class of ‘69 ~’73. We were offered a diverse and rounded education . The Assembly Hall looked a bit worse for wear on the video but we used it well ~ school plays, concerts and the yearly dance at Christmas. Most of my teachers are probably deceased but remember particularly Mr ‘Jack’ Alexander for English and my housemistress for ‘Cumbrae’ ‘Fanny’ Hill. Good luck and fare well to all new Belmontonians!

I was never in the old school. Only once for a bump up day and i with i could of been there coz it looks so much better than the new school tbh :/
