Last week, our fellow Staten Islander Brielle Von Hugel joined up with the PS22 Chorus to perform at a fundraiser for Michael's Cause, an organization dedicated to fighting Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. We rehearsed with her prior to the event and filmed this video of "My WIsh" by Rascal Flatts (to which I proudly add that the kids learned their parts during that rehearsal)! Brielle is all graciousness and an enormous talent and we know we'll be seeing and singing with her again soon!

I fell down YT's PS 22 rabbit hole. There' are many professional collaborations with the kids to check out, but this one stood out for me. Brielle sings her heart out and truly interacts with the kids in their performance.
I can listen tho them all day there's nothing better than talented young people

Brielle was a Top 24 contestant on American Idol Season 11 and also was on Season 10. Yep. I remember her. She's really great :-D

This is the second time Mr. B did this song with a chorus. The first one was last June when that year's group was near the end of their school year. They didn't have a soloist there and were not happy to leave the school but they still sounded great.

Brielle was in Chorus 2009-2010 and did a duett with Alicea (where Mr.B. wondered how someone that young could sound that good). And yes, I'm thinking of that Michael (Allie's younger brother) who was in last year's group.

I think it's safe to assume that Mr. B. would have introduced Brielle as a former Chorus member if she was. I hope he has at least a rough idea whose lifes he touched with Chorus. And she probably would have mentioned her time in the group as well.

So, we have a song that last year's group did at the end of their year (with a whole lot of tears), a Brielle (that name rings a bell in the context of this Chorus), and a fundraiser I'm hoping to learn more about, because the name Michael rings another bell (what are all those bells doing in my head anyway?)
How does singing with the PS22 Chorus feel in comparison to singing on TV? And how much does seeing the videos differ from being in the auditorium? Inquiring minds (well, one mind, in fact), you know?

@greggofsociety “wait. what?” lol I met an Englishman in Belfast, Northern Ireland who worked in a freight forwarding office whose trick was to place a driver within a few streets of where he was born as he could distinguish six main variations in Belfast accents and distinct area peculiarities. For example, the zoo in North Belfast is the “a-zoo” and our security man would announce over the tannoy “Attention please, this is a vi-ri-sitor announcement…”
