BlackTree TV Producer Jamaal Finkley catches up with Zac Efron to talk about his leading role in the new movie Charlie St. Cloud. We had a chance to discuss getting back up from a fall, and dealing with losses. Enjoy and thank you for watching.
Based on an acclaimed novel, Charlie St. Cloud is a romantic drama starring ZAC EFRON (17 Again, Hairspray) as a small-town hero who survives an accident that lets him see the world in a unique way. In this emotionally charged story, he begins a romantic journey in which he embraces the past while discov- ering the purpose of his life and the transformative power of love. Accomplished high-school sailor Charlie St. Cloud (Efron) has the adoration of single mother Claire (Academy Award® winner KIM BASINGER, L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile) and little brother Sam (newcomer CHARLIE TAHAN), as well as a scholarship to Stanford that will lead him far from his sleepy Pacific Northwest hometown. But Charlie's bright future is cut short when tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it.
Nurturing an impressive body of work that encom- passes f ilm and television, ZAC EFRON (Charlie St. Cloud) is one of Hollywood's most promising talents as his career continues to evolve with exciting and challenging projects. Efron has received ShoWest's Breakthrough Per- former of the Year Award, MTV Movie Awards for Breakthrough Performance (2008) and Best Male Performance (2009), and multiple Teen Choice and
Kids' Choice Awards. Last year, Efron starred in two very different
films. He starred in the Warner Bros. film 17 Again, a Big-like dramedy in which a 36-year-old man, in need of a major life do-over, wakes up in the body of a high-school senior. The film opened No. 1 at the box office and also starred Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann. He also starred in the Richard Linklater film Me and Orson Welles, an adaptation of the period coming-of-age novel by Robert Kaplow. Efron portrayed a high-school student who happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is then noticed by Orson Welles. Efron starred in the film alongside Ben Chaplin and Claire Danes, and it debuted to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Efron also starred in the Disney feature film High School Musical 3: Senior Year, the third installment of the extremely successful High School Musical franchise. HSM3 set a box-office record with the highest-grossing opening weekend total for a musical.
