Maya’s impression, especially the voice, is just so spot on! If I didn’t see it wasn’t her, I’d have believed it was Kamala speaking!
Everyone did their parts well, but I think Gaffigan was the best. Not used to seeing him do characters or sketch comedy or anything other than standup. He nailed Walz!

I love how committed Bowen is to the bit. He's even got Vance's verbal cadence and the camera side-eye down.
Bowen does incredible character work!
His is the weakest impersonation IMO. These bits score mainly because of Maya, Dana Carvey, and Jim Gaffigan. All 3 absolutely nail it.

It’s been 38 years since Dana Carvey became an SNL cast member and he’s still the funniest one in this sketch.
The fact that most of the debate part of the sketch is basically verbatim irl quotes is both hilarious and HORRIFYING
They used to be more creative in the old days than to just repeat so many lines from the actual candidates.
Candidates didn't used to be actual parodies of themselves!
That's become almost all their political sketches. There's really no way to spoof or parody something when the thing you're parodying is itself vastly more absurd and outlandish and batshit than anything you possibly could think up to mock it.

I wasn’t the only who noticed Walz’s somewhat frantic scribbling during the whole debate - it was rather distracting 😂 I love how they spun it as correcting papers!
He did very much look like he was struggling, scraping against the absolute limits of his IQ, just to keep up. Poor judgement to put someone better suited for a small town PTA meeting, up against a verbally quick ivy league lawyer used to exactly this sort of speaking format.
If they wanted a touch of folksy and somewhat masculine, they could’ve gone with the very accomplished astronaut from AZ. Shapiro would’ve also been a better choice, but they tried soft-announcing him and it didn’t go well with the from the river people.

Current and recent past SNL players have been doing fake mess ups in order to steal the skit, many skits had eroded into the cast just making themselves laugh while the skit is torched. In this skit the cast quickly recovered the mess-ups as opposed to slipping into an amateur skit, with no discipline.
