From what I read they had the idea for the show and expected to map it out over 3 seasons, but the studio wanted more money and more episodes so they stretched it out into 6 seasons. Remember Jack's tattoo episode? Changed my life, I got the same tattoo
Both... in a way. The black smoke is a manifestation of the source of all negative energy, just as the light in the cave is the source of all positive energy, the evil that is trapped inside the island absorbed the man in black's consciousness/soul and spreads it's evil onto others through him. I believe that the evil manipulated the Jacob's brother through dreams like it did to John Locke, it set the events in motion leading to Mother's death so it could escape the cave.
"home" to him is the place away from the island. He's never been off the island and he just wants to leave. The smoke monster is just the evil inside of him reincarnated as this giant pillar of smoke. The body left over was the good side of him.
I recall watching this at like 1am after a 12 hour shift, I was literally on the verge of falling alseep and then this ending completely threw me wide awake! I was like, NO WAY!!! One of the best moments in the show, I wish you could buy the song at the end on itunes, I dont think it was released on the album
Wait a minute... notice the way Jacob says goodbye to his briother, as though he is never going to see him again, does this mean that "smokey" is not really Jacob's brother but merely taking on his form? That would explain how his mother killed all those men
Mother was a smoke monster by going down the light. Then she became mortal and no longer Smokey when Jacob became the protector. Then Jacob made his “brother” the smoke monster because the island wanted another smoke monster (Claudia’s ghost): ruclips.net/video/LM9rxq0s4Ng/видео.html
this is the heaviest reason i believe in the theory that the smoke monster has never been jacob's brother . and that jacob is not actually 2000 years old because there's no way something would've left from those sceletons if it really been that long ago! so it means that smoke monster is some ancient evil creation that's been trapped in that light cave before it could escape putting on the mib's form
And also.. The Smoke Monsters starts to inhibit the persons personality.. for example when it was Locke it started to act a lot lile him with quotes etc. Smoke Monster started to inhibit Man in Blacks personality of wanting to leave too.
You could argue that since Jacob is the designated guardian of the island (and the world), the island kept him alive. Though either I think Jacob wanted a new protector either because of the fact that Jacob believes himself to be unworthy of protector of the island cause of the fact he killed his brother, or the magic had a limit to how long it could keep him alive.
might be over thinking but is the smoke monster really Jacobs brother or is it that the monster was in the heart and was released by Jacobs brother and die and the smoke monster could then take his form.
My brother and I believe it’s the all the darkness and negativity extracted from him. He fell in the heart of the island which is supposed to be the light of everything. Now you can’t have darkness without light. The two go in hand and hand.
The Man in Black lost his humanity by turning into the smoke monster. He had powers that made him feel like a god. And thousands of years trapped like that on this island that he hated turned him into a psychopath
Saw many people asking this. The thing is that the MiB didn't die an average death but instead was thrown into the core of the island, after which the Smoke Monster is released from that tunnel. The Smoke Monster/MiB also want the same thing which is just getting off the island. There are also scenes where Jacob speaks to the MiB, and they still recognize each other as brothers.
Just because the answer wasn't what you wanted it to be doesn't mean they had no idea how it would end. Let down as you may be, there is no way you can know for 100% fact that what you're saying is true. The black and white stones were a hint that it would have something to do with the light vs dark theme in the show, and from day 1 they made references to twins, Jacob and Smokey are twins. Enough said.
My theory is that brother's so went to be at peace, but his consciousness fused or something like that with darkness in the cave and became the smoke monster
when they found the bodies, they didn't look 2,000 years old. Unprotected, in the middle of the hot jungle... there'd be nothing left after 2,000 years
I love how this show initially had a plan and then a bunch of stuff happened and some of the stuff that was planed didn't come full circle and yet it had 1 of the most satisfying endings of any show ever
I hate that it wasn't planned to make sense. Too many things were introduced and not explained and a lot of it and a lot of people went nowhere and meant nothing. It was a lot of years of wasted time and I don't agree the ending was satisfying at all.
@julia0594 yeah i notice that too when i watched it. its probably a mistake, that the writers forgot. they ARE separated in the episode where jack and kate first sees them.
@TwoToGo Not to mention "actually one of them is female" Daddy issues is a big part of lost, the title of one of the episodes after the episode where they find the skeletons is "all the best cowboys have daddy issues" I bet the writers knew that the cause of everything on lost was because of bad parenting but not from a dad but a mother.
Wait; did Jack and Kate find the stones near the bodies when they originally found the cave in season 1, or did they add this scene only during the airing of season 6 episode 15?
When they found the bodies, Locke called them "our very own Adam and Eve". This scene explains who they actually were (not the biblical Adam and Eve of course).
Jacob couldn’t kill his brother. That was THE rule. He might have killed his body, but his would came back and fused with something darker. The island punished Jacob for breaking THE rule. The island has no bias for or against Jacob, it will punish and reward anyone it pleases.
This scene is just amazing. It shows us that the whole story was already prepared when they did the first season.
From what I read they had the idea for the show and expected to map it out over 3 seasons, but the studio wanted more money and more episodes so they stretched it out into 6 seasons. Remember Jack's tattoo episode? Changed my life, I got the same tattoo
Sometimes I feel that this series was written like "create the mystery first, provide explanations later".
@@charles2521 it was
The show was originally planned for 1 season.
@@libertylovin2359 🤣🤣 it was for 3 seasons

A very important episode.
I recall watching this at like 1am after a 12 hour shift, I was literally on the verge of falling alseep and then this ending completely threw me wide awake! I was like, NO WAY!!! One of the best moments in the show, I wish you could buy the song at the end on itunes, I dont think it was released on the album
It actually is! Its on the last episodes soundtrack called "love is stronger than death" - i love this track, its one of my favorites
The writers tied everything into this scene perfectly. It's amazing, really.
They killed it for many viewers with all of the flashbacks and flash forwards though. They made it extremely confusing.
@@cygnusrider Never confusing. They made it extremely compelling.

Good interpretation

@jbreezy101 How yh because she have jacob that title

Maybe but I dont think so I think his soul left his body and came out as the smoke. The smoke is the embodiment of his soul as its own entity
And also.. The Smoke Monsters starts to inhibit the persons personality.. for example when it was Locke it started to act a lot lile him with quotes etc. Smoke Monster started to inhibit Man in Blacks personality of wanting to leave too.

No you're wrong.

Yeah it would make sense... also the bloke above you in the comments said the exact same thing 2 months later and got more likes

Should have showed Jacob and MIbs first interaction after he became Smoke Monster. Maybe they did but Jacob acted like they had interacted before
My theory is that brother's so went to be at peace, but his consciousness fused or something like that with darkness in the cave and became the smoke monster
@Baltabak The black smoke is his soul that was corrupted by the source.
when they found the bodies, they didn't look 2,000 years old. Unprotected, in the middle of the hot jungle... there'd be nothing left after 2,000 years
Do we know it was 2000 years ago? I honestly don't remember, it's been almost 8 years since I finished L O S T.
Maybe the Island perserves them better with its enviroment.
It’s a magic island lmao
Longer than 2000 years.
It's a time distorting magic island.

so Jacob's brother was only a ghost when he was in his BS form right - cause his body was in the caves right ?
Did you say "No relation to twilight"?
are you suggesting a
Crossover?!
I always thought they weren’t allowed to harm one another directly
He saw the light, just like Lucifer did. So that's why he fell.
@MusicIsIt9 A bit of both most likely, but i dont see why it matters.
Poor Jacob.
If jack found the skeleton of the mib and mother then who is the black smoke?
That was his physical body he got turned into the smoke monster by Jacob
Why they decided to put the skeletons in the same place? When Jack and Locke found Adam & Eve the skeletons were distant.
You're right.
Tho, it could be Jacob who moved them separately after a while
@Yadoozz cheers mate
Wait; did Jack and Kate find the stones near the bodies when they originally found the cave in season 1, or did they add this scene only during the airing of season 6 episode 15?
Yes it was there in season 1
The black and white stones were there in the original season one episode. The Pilot has a reference to them when Locke talks to Walt.
There is a guy from Sweden that looks JUST LIKE Jacob. He even acts like him IM am not jokeing people REALLY. O__O
Its me
@platnium1811 That's his BODY. Not him.
@1747CT Over the course of 2 thousand years, sure they are bound to separate some.
Greatest show of all time.
its not good bye if he attached his soal to the smoke YAY Team Jacob XD (No relation to twilight)
Wait so did Barry/ Man in Black actually die? And the black smoke is just evil?
They can't kill each other
How does that explains the adam and eve?
When they found the bodies, Locke called them "our very own Adam and Eve". This scene explains who they actually were (not the biblical Adam and Eve of course).
So, NOT an Adam and Eve at all.
0:33 Awwwwwwwwwwww =(
Jacob couldn’t kill his brother. That was THE rule. He might have killed his body, but his would came back and fused with something darker. The island punished Jacob for breaking THE rule. The island has no bias for or against Jacob, it will punish and reward anyone it pleases.
