Judging from this figure, I hope Hiya toys could get a LOTR/Hobbit license to create the best articulated Smaug we can get since I don't think an articulated movie Smaug exists.

He does the walk pose fine. I watched another youtuber named ShinRobjira that was able to recreate the pose. He kind of did it step by step so you could follow along for anyone who needs it.
The Monsterverse version of Ghidorah doesn't have metallic gold skin. It's hard to tell in the movie because so much of it is in low lighting but if you look at official renders the color is very similar to what's on this figure
SH Monster Arts did a special colour edition in gold and it looked ...gaudy. Combined with their out of proportion head and neck sculpt (which they didn't correct) and the brittle, heavy plastic wings, well... buyer beware. To each, his own I guess. Hiya's version as far as this collector is concerned, is film accurate and the gold standard for this character in an articulated fig. Can't wait to pick mine up as soon as Diamond gets it out to comic book stores.
Kinda ironic, because Monsterverse Ghidorah’s skin has pure gold in it. I’m not even making that up.
@@CobbleBompster trace amount of aurum which act as conductor for electricity. It doesn't mean the whole figure should be gold... or painted gold.

Fun fact, ghidora's name comes from the japanese pronunciation for hydra (hi-du-ra). The monster it was inspired from. Also, metallic coating all the way

1. MV Ghidorah is not gold like his older incarnations, tho I think a bit of gold highlighting/drybrush would definitely add more pop. But it is movie accurate, and that's what they were aiming for
2. He does have an underbite iirc, tho in the toy it's slightly more pronounced than on screen
3. He shoots lightning of some kind
4. Technically he's an alien, but going by our nerdy dragon stuff, he's a wyvern (fused arms/wings)
5. For the walking pose, there's some other reviewers on here who go into depth on how to achieve that, you gotta fiddle with the wings in some specific ways. But it's totally doable
Also worth mentioning that this guy is significantly cheaper vs the SH Monsterarts incarnation (beating both MSRP and sale prices of the premium finish and standard release, $250/$180 vs $110-125), and far more screen accurate
For #2, only the right head has an underbite, as it fit with the whole thing of that head being more aggressive. The middle and left heads didn’t have underbites.
Ghidorah utilizes gravity beams, not lightning even though it looks somewhat like it.
I prefer MV one cos the gold color, I dont really care about screen accuracy as it is debatable in this case
1:36 no. He’s accurate to the source. Legendary didn’t go full gold for whatever reason.
2:50 ish underbite is also accurate.

I also like it if King Ghidorah is in metallic gold. But if it means higher price and potential scrapping of paint when posing especially those wings touching the ground pose, then I'd gladly take it as it is. Besides, I think that the muddish brown color works better with that gradient paint job than metallic gold would.
Btw, the initial Monsterarts (Monsterverse) King Ghidorah has a dull gold color. Only the P-Bandai expensive Premium Color Edition has the metallic gold.
I think those stands are for a flight pose…great looking figure! He shoots what looks like lightning if I remember correctly
The stands would definitely not be able to support this figure in a flight pose. They’re purely for supporting the joints whenever it’ll be standing in one place for while.

The monsterarts first one was a similar colour to this, which is accurate to the source, i believe. The second one was a "special colour" release and was metallic gold to evoke the classic movie Ghidorah.
Glad someone finally made a scaled Ghidora. Was upset when Neca decided they wasn't going to do it. Was ready to pick up the whole monsterverse but that news killed the whole line for me.
He wasn’t shiny gold in the movie to begin with so I don’t see it as an issue. Wouldn’t mind it if it was there. Also he shoots lightning in case you were curious.
For me I'm okay with the lack of gold here, maybe for moments in the film there was a shimmer to him, but he was so darkly lit that it was hard to tell. The baseline colour of the figure to me fits the aesthetic of this Ghidorah, in that he looks like a more 'realistic' creature than the earlier suit designs, plus he's still a very vibrant colour, it's unmistakable which fictional dragon it's meant to be.
This is a very cool looking figure and a great modern take on Ghidorah's design, I'm just more partial to his 90's design, or heck even the goofier 60's one, they're more engrained in my brain as what I think of when I think 'King Ghidorah', but this is easily the best looking figure of him out right now.
The first release of the monsterarts Ghidorah was similar in color to this hiya one, the all gold one was a special color version. I dry brushed gold on the first release and it looks perfect

As much of a glorified statue this thing is, i still love it to death… Hiya apparently used the actual CGI files from the movie to sculpt this thing, and it marks the first time ever we’ve had an accurate, articulated Ghidorah from the 2019 film… the SHMA is way too off for me to be bothered with it…
I’m very excited to get my copy. I was one of the ones hoping that you would review this figure that way I could see your genuine opinion and honest facts on any shortcomings.
The MonsterVerse is my absolute favorite cinematic universe, since I grew up, loving Godzilla and King Kong.

Fun fact : damn near anyone who owns the monsterarts legendary gidorah , is most likely buying the hiya gidorah for the sole purpose of being able to do that wing walk pose lol. Monsterarts cant do it , the wings are solid pieces that mount onto a big fat peg on a shoulder ball joint. Virtually zero wing movement. I understand it may seem like a goofy pose that nobody will do but imo that pose is the main selling point of the figure 😂

The colors don't matter because I was watching them on a black and white TV, so I never knew it was gold until now.
the walking pose can be done, i've seen other reviewers do it. there are also pictures on google on some collectors.
I prefer a metallic gold finish too, I remember Legendary's King Ghidorah being more shiny. For effects she shoots lighting called gravity beams.
Would love if Hiya had the rights for Toho Godzilla too to compete with MonsterArts and potentially give us long awaited ones like Anguirus.
Hiya Toys does have the Toho license, first figure they're doing seems to be Godzilla 91, showing off the prototype this year iirc
Ghidorah in KoTM doesnt have the gold skin. The reason Bandi colored theirs gold was to replicate a very specific scene in the movie where he "charges up". The one thing that is a bit off is the underside has way to much white. I think a gradient to a lighter color would have looked better. But has far as overall color, this is a close as it gets.

I am so happy hiya has been going forward with these figures. I love sh monsterarts, but all their monsterverse figures have been very disappinting including their ghidorah. All of hiyas have been an improvement, and in the future we are getting mutos and skullcrawlers. And yeah even though the monsterverse Ghidorah isnt technically gold, i think the figure would get a lot out if that. Either way its better than the mustard yellow minsterarts did
Every review of this thing makes me wish I would've gotten this instead of the Monster Arts. I have the Hiya Godzilla and love it.
Great review! This version of Ghidorah doesn't have metallic golden scales and the figure's color is actually very accurate. His main power are lightning bolts fired from his mouths called gravity beams. I've seen other reviewers get him into his knuckle walking pose, it's just kinda tricky and takes some time to adjust. Despite the figure's setbacks I'm still looking forward to picking it up and think it's a good improvement over the bandai monster arts version

They just announced a couple of weeks ago a version of this figure with a more metallic gold color scheme and beam effects. Hopefully you plan to review it Anthony. I would love to see your take on that. It’s odd how that one is cheaper by like $20

This one is far better than the shmonsterarts version. Glad I sold it and got this one. I dont even need the display stands, this boy stays in place.

I'm partial to gold. Great as this looked, I passed on it specifically because I'm waiting for Hiya to do a golden recolor. There's a specific scene in the movie where he *does* turn "gold" and I'm 99% certain they're going to milk this mold, so hopefully it won't take long.
You reviewed the _special_ _color_ version of the monsterarts. The standard version has more dull colors (and looks like crap). Pretty sure monsterverse ghidorah isn't actually golden; just different shades of yellow. In kotm, he's never really brightly lit enough to really even look golden anyway.
Ooooh yeah I feel like this release really solidifies Hiya as a competitor. Really really curious how the Minus One Goji will turn out on both sides

Having at least a little gold would make this pretty, but the current paint job is already excellent.

Accurate or not, Ghidorah is King Ghidorah and he should always have the gold. Gold and breathes lightning with a hatred boner for Godzilla. Also the scale is really about 1/12 if it were a man in a rubber Kaiju suit.
The veins on the wings can also be seen under uv light, supposedly.
Fun fact, the original suit actor for Ghidorah Hurricane Ryu, also created the manga Gekisatsu Uchuuken lol

traditional KG should be metallic gold...but monsterverse is not gold. Hiya got it right. shma looks like a horrible bootleg with a super high price.
The walking pose is literally one of the key attraction hiya has over shma that got fans really hyped back when it was announced. every comment i saw on it was how hiya could do it while shma could not.

Hiya's godzilla is a little bigger than the sh monsterarts one, so this ghidora will probably be a bit too big, but it's not too bad, just Google pictures of the hiya and shm godzilla beside eachother and see for yourself if the difference is too much
Even though it’s a different scale it’s the same size as the monsterarts one.
Without the gold it still looks nice and Ghidorah. But with the design it reminds me of the dragons from Reign of Fire.
Completely unrelated to this video but can you please review the new demoniacal fit base form goku?? I would love to hear what your thoughts are on the new mold, face plates and just what DF has done with the figure. It seems like many people are saying is the best base form goku yet! I would love to hear what you say.

He probably should have the metallic finish but honestly I prefer the more scaley look even if it’s not accurate
Scaled creatures should be glossy but Its not a deal breaker.
The figure has a lot of segments/joints but the articulation is quite lacking. Especially the head and neck, it would have been better if they used bendy wires within a soft rubber mold, there are a lot of "breaks" on the figure but not functional which is a bit disappointing.

No they don’t lol. All my figures can do as advertised because they hardly pose their figures in their promos. They’re pretty static when they show off new figures which is fine.
